Chit Chat / Re: Kindle has arrived!!!!!!, now what to do with it!!
« on: February 05, 2011, 12:47:21 am »
If you are transfering books from one Kindle to another  you can do  it via computer or wireless. Just turn the Kindle on to your network and go to sync and all books are transfered  in about a minutue. Too easy, even I could do it!

Gert

Question for Gert:
The kindles need to be on the same account, don't they? Just trying to share books with my sis's kindle and the only way I can do it is to register her kindle on my account and transfer the books out of archives.

For sharing on the kindle, we discovered if you deregister your kindle and, for instance, re-register it in my name, my books are in the archive and you can transfer them to your kindle and then re-register it back in your name and the books will still be on your kindle. Not sure if this is legal or not... but we've done it amongst ourselves.

I have the kindle and the cover with the light and it doesn't seem to drain the battery too fast. We took our kindles camping and it was awesome at night. We could read in bed without using a torch. I read a bit at night with the light and only recharge every few weeks. I'm reading a "real" book at the moment and I miss the lightness of the kindle and the little light. Our bedside lamp lights up the room so much and I feel guilty reading while dh is sleeping.

I bought the power adaptor for it, which makes it easier to recharge when I'm still reading it.

I'm really looking forward to taking the kindle with me when we travel, esp when we go to PNG for 3 weeks. Last time I took 20 books with me, but this time I can take dozens for a lot less weight. I told my friend she had to buy a kindle coz I wasn't bringing books with me this time LOL

Chit Chat / Re: Disappointed with Festive Cooking Class

I agree, Zebraa. I had to see the thermomix in action before I believed it did all it does. My friend was telling me about it and I just couldn't understand how one machine does all that. I reckon there should be kickbacks for sales from demo's though. I've "sold" two thermomixes by raving about them and there are two more "sales" in the pipeline from one of those people. No, I don't want to be a consultant, I just like bragging LOL (Oh, that sounds like pyramid selling... so maybe not LOL)

I got a call from a Brisbane consultant who got passed my email to head office about my disappointment with the Festive Cooking Class. I said it would have been nice to have got copies of the recipes they cooked on the night and that people who go to things like this like to feel special and indulged (esp at $30 a head). It doesn't cost much to do up some recipes nicely and photocopy them out etc. She asked if I bought the festive cookbook and I said no, because I didn't see why I should have had to pay an extra $10 to get the recipes. If they'd given the recipes they cooked, I probably would have bought the book for the rest of them (if you know what I mean). Anyway, she said she'd send me a festive cookbook, which is very nice of her, but I wasn't looking for a freebie, just wanted to give feedback. If they don't know, they can't do anything different next time.

Wow CarolineJ, I should have gone to your class LOL. All we got to eat was some sorbet, about 3 mouthfuls of arabian lemonade, a few mouthfuls of lettuce soup, a small plate with a maybe 2 tbs of chicken/potato salad, 2tbs of christmas waldorf salad and a cracker with some artichoke dip on it and a plate with a small shortbread biscuit (? don't know what it was, they didn't make it), a fruit mince pie and a tiny sliver of pudding with a tsp of brandy sauce. The only sweet thing they made at the class was the brandy sauce.

I didn't learn anything new, but I have been to a few demos recently since my bro and my friend have decided to buy. I haven't had a consultant for a few years so I learnt heaps of things I didn't know (really obvious stuff like having the litre measurements printed in the side of the jug and the little butterly mark on the blades. I never knew about them hahahaha)

I didn't get a chance to put my feedback on the form because they rushed us to fill them out "or we'd miss out on the gifts". I did email HO today as well, so hopefully that will make a difference.

It would be good to have some more focussed, maybe smaller classes, where we could BYO Thermomix and all cook together. Then you could ask questions and actually do it yourself. I suppose though, I've had my thermomix for a few years, so I don't really know what I want to learn LOL. I just like getting inspired with new ideas. I really just attended because my family and friends are new owners and I wanted them to be encouraged and inspired.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks its a rip off. I've been to a couple of classes (are they classes?).. one with Nico and the other festive one. Both times it was crowded and the speakers don't have microphones so its hard to hear. Both times I got recipes. We had them before the class so we could follow along.

I went this time because my bro and sil and friend are all new thermomix owners. I think we all got more out of the demo and the varoma demo's we've been to.

I did like the Arabian Lemonade and the Chicken and Potato Salad. The rest was ho hum.

Chit Chat / Disappointed with Festive Cooking Class

Hi everyone,

I attended the Festive Cooking Class/Demo in Brisbane last night with 3 friends and we were rather disappointed in it. I enjoyed the recipes, but I thought at $30 it was way overpriced for what we got! Two small tasting plates, a little gift of some cooking and a little bundle of gift cards. No recipes! We had to go and buy the festive cookbook for $10.

I've been to a couple of cooking classes and one of them was a festive one in 2008 and I got a recipe booklet with all the recipes in it and it only cost me $15. I liked having the recipe book to follow along with as they cooked.

Has anyone else been to any of the festive demos?

I use 3 cups of rice to cook for my family of 6. I don't know how much it weighs, but the TMX basket isn't big enough. We do have a small amount of leftovers, which get eaten the next day.

I also boil the kettle to get hot water to cook pasta. It didn't make sense to me to use the TMX for however many minutes to get hot water. Either that or I start with hot tap water.

half filling jug with milk - which is sitting nicely in the machine, I glance down and wonder to myself why the bottom of the jug IS STILL SITTING ON THE BENCH!!!! [

Bwhahahahahahahahaha I was just coming in here to post the same kind of thing (not necessarily in this thread though LOL). I decided to make pikelets for the kids for school morning tea so I dump in the flour, milk powder and eggs and then look for the MC so I can measure water and realised the base and blade are sitting in the dishrack!!!! Damn DH who washed up las night and obviously put the bowl in the TMX base without putting it back together. Flour is really hard to get out of the holey bit where the blade base sticks into! Oh well, the feet of the TMX got cleaned this morning..

I haven't actually got around to it. It's not hard to do. Turn it on, look at what the numbers change to on the monitor LOL.

12
I've started making porridge in the TMX because my fav microwave cooking bowl finally died. The kids told me its "just like poppa makes". I hope thats a good thing  :D They've been eating it, so it must be ok. I don't like porridge, so I have no idea. I cook it with 2 cups rolled oats, 4 cups hot tap water and for 7 mins on reverse speed 1 on temp 90

Judy, I'll get back to you with the costs. I'll try and remember to do it on Mon when I'm home alone and I'll run it in several scenarios and make a note of what it costs.

Has anyone on QLD taken advantage of the Climate Smart scheme? http://www.climatesmarthome.com/

We have one of the wireless energy monitors (dh bought one just before the scheme started, which is annoying coz it cost over $200! He's a sparky though, so tax deductible LOL). It shows how much an hour it costs to run your household appliances etc. When we first got it, we turned off every single thing to get a 0 reading and then turned things on one by one to work out how much per hour each thing cost to run. We figured how much money we waste leaving everything on standby. It was a really interesting exercise.

News about Thermomix / Re: Thermomix on Masterchef Australia
« on: July 11, 2009, 10:25:11 am »
I guess it didn't get a huge rave up because that's not what the Masterclass is about. They don't rave up saucepans, stoves and other things they use. I thought it was lucky to get the whole "This is a Thermomix and it does this". The name was there. People can go and look it up and see what it does. On BH&G, it didn't even get named, so most people would have thought it was a futuristic looking blender.
