Title: Taste of vegetarian cookbook - is my copy printed incorrectly?
Post by: Di_2013 on May 11, 2013, 04:09:06 am
Hi everyone,

I've just got my thermie and a couple of cookbooks two days ago. In my taste of vegetarian cookbook I noticed that in the index at the back it seems to be a bit strange, and I'm not sure if my copy has a printing error?

For example, the last page of the index is mains (continued) - on this page several of the recipes are listed twice, such as the zucchini moussaka and strudel. In other parts of the index, potato curry is listed under the milk catergory, face mask under the dips starters and sides catergory...If anyone else has a copy of the book, would you be able to let me know if yours is the same?

It's not a big deal, but I just thought it was a bit weird and was wondering if this is just how all the books came out, or if I got a misprinted copy :-)

Hi Di,

Have just had a look and yes Potato Curry is under the milk section.  Face masks under dips ect and both the zucchini strudel and zucchini moussaka are listed twice.  I don't think that you have a bad copy.  I have found that most of the Australian produced books have a very strange index.  Perhaps they are starting to address this and so a reprinting books i.e. the new EDC.  Let's hope so.

Thanks Trudy! Lol, very weird, but I'll live with it as it is then  :)

Hi Di.

The Zucchini Moussaka and Zucchini Strudel are listed twice, but that is a good thing, as some people would look up zucchini to see what recipes they could use, whereas others might just browse through the mains recipes to see what they might like to make.

Potato Curry is listed on the same page as the Milk category, but not in that.  If you look at the setting out, you will see that all of the milks are indented, and then the recipes start again alphabetically.  Potato Curry just comes along later.

Again, the indenting will give you guidance regarding what is in the Dips, Starters and Sides section.  That finishes with the Walnut Patties and the Face Masks and Face Cream just show up in the general alphabetical listing, further down the column.

Hope you enjoy the recipes in this book.  There are many to choose from!

Don't you hate wasting good ingredients.  I thought I would make the zucchini strudel on pge 82 of the vegetarian cookbook.
I can only think there are a couple of misprints ( or weights of ingredients should be included).  The recipe calls for "6" zucchini, I used 3. Then you sauté the zucchini and garlic for 3 minutes Varoma- I am assuming this is to reduce some of the liquid. My Thermie wasn't at varoma temp in 3 minutes so I cooked until it reached Varoma and then cooked for 5 minutes. It was still very moist I was hoping it would thicken up a bit when cool- nah!
The recipe also says roll up like a strudel....mmm...a bit tricksy with a runny mess all over the place.
The mix tasted nice, the dough seems ok( but I haven't made anything like it to compare). But the filling I believe, please correct me if you have had success with this recipe, needs refining.

I kept rereading the recipe incase it said maybe 30minutes Varoma and 6 x 3cm pieces of zucchini.  But I don't think so.
Suppose to be a nice dinner for DH coming home tonight!

I haven't used this book much, mainly because of very few photos. However I recently discovered how delicious CADA is and remembered it was from this book.  Can anyone recommend and of the better recipes in here?

Oh what a shame...the Milk Tart is a good one, but again read the reviews here re the final quantities (lots of liquid) and size of dish. I too have this book and don't use it enough. I also find the index confusing.

Jam, the flavour is good, I think it would be worth playing with the zucchini part of the recipe.
My dough had a pasta consistency.

I keep hearing about the face masks etc, and that they're printed in this cookbook. So I ordered one from Thermomix, and it's arrived today. It's printed in February 2015, and doesn't have that stuff! So I think it must be an older version of the book that did. Anyone know a current cookbook with this kind of stuff in it?

Welcome spersephone. My copy of the Tast of Vegetarian has face masks on page 130. There is an Apricot Face Mask and an Avocado Face Mask. The previous pages have face creams and body scrubs.

I hope this helps.

Hi spersephone, welcome to the forum.  If they are only in the early editions then there's no problem with me posting a couple of the 'recipes' here then.  If you are interested to have all the recipes listed below, please pm your name and address and I'll send you a copy of the rest of them.

They are
Adzuki bean scrub
Nourishing face cream
Easy Lemon Myrtle Hand Cream
Avocado face mask
Apricot Face mask
Queen of Sheba bath soak
Fizzing bath bombs
Stimulating body mist
plus the following 2 scrubs

Simple Hand and Body Scrub

80g organic dried soybeans
320g pink Himalayan salt
150g sweet almond oil or vegetable oil of choice
1 tsp organic lemon myrtle
1/2 teaspoonful or 15 drops grapefruit essential oil
1/2 teaspoonful or 15 drops chamomile essential oil

Place soybeans into TM bowl and pulverise for 45-60 seconds on speed 10.
Add remaining ingredients and mix for 2 mins/speed 3.  Use spatula to assist if necessary.

Almond Scrub

100g almonds, with skin
100g almond oil
30g apple cider vinegar
30g distilled vinegar

Place almonds into TM bowl and mill for 6 sec/speed 8
Add remaining ingredients and mix to combine for 3 sec/speed 3
Check the consistency, if too firm add more water, too runny, more almond meal.
Almonds vary in moisture content from season to season so adjust accordingly.

Variations
Substitute almonds with brown rice - mill first for 40 sec/speed 8.
Substitute almonds with oatmeal - mill first for 10 sec/speed 8.
Add kelp before milling (to treat spotty skin).
Replace almonds with walnuts and use walnut oil.
Your skin will enjoy and benefit from the natural goodness of pure ingredients without additives, prepared in seconds.
