Oh my goodness --- the best recipe from this book for me so far. Delectable!
Simple, clear, concise recipe. To die for taste! Classy serving suggestion which I ignored as I was too tempted by the patties.
I have to admit to a tweak as I only had a 200g of salmon so I added a 170g can of crab to make up the difference as I used to make a tasty crab and salmon dip in my youth. I will definitely be coming back to this recipe when I *do* have the exact ingredients but for tea tonight I was more than happy with the compromise version.
The subtle little additions of sour cream, mustard, paprika and fresh herbs (I used coriander) were so lovely.
You would never think while eating that the seafood was tinned. Just wonderful Don't delay. If you have Alyce's book, try this one and see if you too give it 5/5.

Thanks Cecilia, great review!
I love the idea of using half crab meat - I hadn't thought of that but sounds like a fantastic variation!

As we used to write in handwriting lessons, "Necessity is the mother of invention."

these were absolutely delightful. makes a quick light meal, and the sour cream and sweet chilli sauce are an absolute must in my eyes. I'd give them a 5/5 too

Placing Kezza's review here with the others.
Made these tonight for dinner and they were very nice. I doubled the recipe and all okay to do this. However, when blitzing the rice which is the first step, I was wondering if 3 minutes on speed 9 was too much for the rice. I actually put double the amount in, and it definitely did not need 3 minutes. I think I stopped the machine after 1 1/2 minutes and the bowl was really hot. Not sure if this was misprint or not.
-
I noticed that the jug was warm too when I was putting the rice flour aside. The temp read 37o

Great to hear the feedback! It does seem like a long time I know, but from experience if you do not do it long enough the pattie has a sandy and gritty texture which is horrible! So I always do it a little bit longer than you think it needs - 3 minutes ensures a great texture :)
-
Thanks Alyce. I'll just keep an eye on it. My patties were fine, not gritty at all and believe it or not, my DS who does not like anything 'fishy' and turned his nose up when I told him what was for dinner, ate more of them than the rest of us and has just polished off the last one leftover from last night :-))
-
Don't you just love it when that happens! My dad was convinced he didn't like corn until he had the corn, pancetta and chives dish.
Great to hear the family enjoyed them kezza :)

Really enjoyed these!

Loved there was no potato in these, and really delish served with lettuce, sour cream and sweet chilli sauce as Alyce suggests.

That's such a great photo! Well done!

We had these the other night (for the second time now) and they are a hit for sure.
I too love that there is no potato in them!
Great summer food with a salad for this house, get a bit sick of the meat and salad in summer so they were a fantastic change.
On a side note, if you need to make a double batch (as I do :-))) make sure that you do the batches one after the other. It is takes too much processing if you do it all in one batch and you over process the whole mix. Just as quick to make 2 batches and if you mill the rice in 2 batches one after the other you won't need to wash the bowl in-between ;)

I made these for our supper this evening.I agree with everyone they are delicious.I used a tin of wild red salmon and whole grain mustard as I had run out of Dijon.Super recipe Alyce :)
-
Thanks Alyce - had these tonight = so quick and really good! couldn't find the paprika so used a dash of Herbie's Chilli Hit -just great - will be making these on a regular basis! :) :) :)

Made these last night- Delicious Delicious! I think they will become a regular feature in my home- GREAT way to get more fish into the diet!
Held together well when cooking, not too fishy, lovely and light with the rice flour. :)

I made a half-serve of these tonight and they were delicious. I didn't have any dijon mustard so I substituted hot english mustard instead (reduced quantity). My ratio of salmon to the rest of the mixture was probably a bit higher too as although I measured out 200g of salmon it equated to over 2/3rds of my 410g tin. Served the patties with a bit of lettuce & spinach straight out of the garden and the sour cream/sweet chilli sauces. Highly recommended!

If you haven't made this recipe before, I highly recommend it for a quick and easy meal. I love the fact that there are no potatoes in the patty (you mill some rice instead). Today I whipped up another half batch using canned tuna instead of salmon (tuna in chilli oil which gave it a bit of a spicy kick) and I also substituted brown rice for the white rice. 5/5 again.
Unfortunately, I didn't have any sweet chilli sauce to serve with it. Must try the sweet chilli sauce recipe very soon.

I am going to make these tomorrow. I am going to make them little and serve them on cocktail sticks with dipping sauce. Will let you know how they go.
-
Well here goes, I made them much smaller but still flat, made about 30. i am going to serve them as a starter later. my herb of choice was coriander(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/18/gahubere.jpg).. Next time I would add chili. Very happy with how they turned out.

That's great GHM, I love little things. Are these just as nice cold as hot?
-
Hi JD I think I will pop them back in the oven when guests arrive so we have them hot.

These are great and easy to make. I too like the idea of no potato. Delicious with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce and the EDC beetroot salad.

Made these again last night. So quick and easy, and so very good with a garden salad.
-
I'd have to agree with all the other reviews and say these were lovely - quick, crispy and light! The sour cream and sweet chilli really make it!
