Thought I'd put this little summary together. Hope this is a logical spot.
If you click on this link tmfi, it will tell you how to make it.

Tahini can also be served as a dip/spread itself, prepared in a similar way to houmous. Add some lemon juice, salt, crushed garlic and thin it out with olive oil and/or water. Also nice with chopped parsley through it.
That's about all there is to it. Roasted give more flavour
http://www.ayur-indo.com/english/e.tahini.htm (http://www.ayur-indo.com/english/e.tahini.htm) - that's a TM21 machine they are using.
You can make paler tahini by using raw seeds soaked overnight - dry them on tea towels and then blend in the Thermomix - you may need to add some oil - vegatable or grapeseed may give less overpowering sesame flavour than sesame.
Now off to try it so I can make some hommus.
-
I made this today with 250g sesame seeds. It makes HEAPS. Now, what to do with it apart from hommus? I've never used it before.
-
Some good ideas here Cathy

I use tahini a lot in treat balls (dates, almonds, cacao powder, tahini, honey/maple syrup, coconut oil) and smoothies (eg: http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2009/11/banana-raspberry-smoothie.html). Also hummus, of course. I've used it in dairy free creamy salad dressings too.
-
I love that Smoothie Jo, and use Tahini often in my smoothies now. Would never have thought to do so until I made yours so thank you :)
-
Thanks Faffa - it makes it creamy, doesn't it.
-
Thanks for reminding me Jo - I used to use it in the same type of treat balls when I was a vegetarian about 30+ years ago.
I had a book - Recipes for a Small Planet and it had lots of similar ideas.
-

It does and I love the taste of Tahini so can get a little heavy handed with the smoothies which DH will then complain so have learnt to use a spoon and measure now ;D ;D ;D
-
Thanks for all the ideas. I do add sesame seeds to Jo's chocolate shake, so now I can add the Tahini instead.
Any idea how long it lasts in the fridge?
-
I made the treat balls today and took them to a friend's place who was watching my kids, so they'd have a healthy snack... she rolled them in icing sugar so they'd taste 'better'!!! EEK! My kids thought it was Christmas! Oh well. :-))
-
Oh no - what can you say!!! :o ;D :o

No worries - serve them as a follow up after a supersized Big M and fries with a thick shake 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

You are such a stirrer Thermomixer but I'm sure Jo's children would love you :D :D
-
Ha ha! Yes, they would!! :D
-
I make my tahini by dry roasting in my TM on varoma for 15 minutes then I blend it on speed 9/10 and add a couple of tbs of coconut oil! It works fine and everybody loves my hommus at demos!
-
Sounds good, karen - must try it!
-
Haven't got around to making tahini yet (still finishing the jar I have). It seems as if it is quite sticky and hard to get out of the TMX - maybe after it is 'ready' putting it on reverse stir at 37 C may soften it enough to make it easier to get into a jar. I often stand my tahini jar in warm water to make the contents cooperate!
-
Mine has turned out quite gritty not at all like store bought Tahini, I used hulled organic sesame seeds and sesame oil and had to add a lot of water as I just had a gritty paste, have I done something wrong?
-
Made this today to use with hommus. It needed a lot of mixing and scraping and mixing and scraping. But overall I liked the way I can toast the sesame seeds in the TM and then just blitz it.
-
So would you make it again jamberrie?
-
Yes definitely. I wouldn't say it is yummy, just because its not my thing. But it is very convenient to keep sesame seeds and just make the tahini from scratch when I need some. Quicker than finding it at the shops and without the additives.
-
Yes true. Sadly I bought a jar early tmx days and am still waiting for it to run out so I can make my own. But you can only eat so much hommus.
-
I know this is an old thread but I love tahini and i love the hummus that Maria Emmerich makes on her blog (I'm not affiliated with her, I just love her no-grain low-carb recipes!!!) it's made with... Zucchini! and I even dip zucchini slices in it (overload, perhaps but it's YUMMY!): zucchini hummus (http://mariahealth.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/garlic-zucchini-hummus-and-cinnamon.html)
That'll use up a bit of Tahini! (it's not a Thermomix recipe but I think it can easily be converted! I haven't made it since I had my thermie, must put it on my to-do list on the weekend!)
She even has a cinnamon "sugar" version on the same page (she uses natural sweeteners, you could definitely use sugar or rapadura in their place though that will change the nutritional value!)
