Just made this to take on Christmas Day.  Hopefully it should be delicious! 

I also used Uni's amendment of substituting the golden syrup for malt extract to give it that extra malt taste

I am not sure. I think you need the malt biscuits to give it the taste. Ginger might be too strong.
