Chookies sweet chilli salmon (we love this recipe), rice and steamed veg.

We had an interesting meal tonight. I tried a couple of things we wanted to take camping. I made a shepherd's pie and used instant mashed potato. Yuk! We all scraped it off. I did surprise peas with the other veggies. They were barely ok. I prefer tins but they are very heavy to carry.
To make up for the pre-fab stuff I made an apple pie crumble. I didn't have enough pastry for top and bottom so did crumble for the top. A mixture of blitzed rolled oats, a little brown sugar with almonds over the top.

PS: it was such a breeze to process the onions, garlic, carrot and cauliflower for the spag bol. Ingredients that I had to painstakingly chop in my pre-thermomix days.

It's going to be an interesting menu Judy. One of the 4 is a sort of vegetarian. He eats chicken though. So no steaks or snags on the barbie. The two of us sort of planned together. It will be fun.

What would you recommend as a very non fishy fish GF? We have had NZ blue cod that was lovely.

Hi Mich - I'm probably not the best person to ask as I like most fish - but I spoke to a friend who also doesn't like "fishy" fish and these are the ones that she recommends . .snapper, barramundi, leather jackets, whiting . . and one of my favourites, ling.  Interestingly enough, my friend also likes orange roughie

Also suggested thawing frozen fish in salted water.  If fish is fresh also wash thoroughly and soak in salted water.

Fish friend avoids include trevally and mullet.

Suggestions to mask any fishiness:  Try serving with sauces, eg. a good quality mayonnaise, tartare sauce, etc.; use a lot of ginger, onion, garlic, spring onions, etc (great for steaming!),; use marinades;  Fish curries - both Indian and Thai styles

I don't like 'fishy' fish either Michele and generally buy snapper either goldband, pink, red or tropical. Also red emperor and barramundi.
I only buy fresh fish from fishmonger and non imported. The fresher the fish the less 'fishy' it tastes. Hope  this helps.

I recall reading that fresh fish should smell like the sea....if it smells fishy, it's likely to not be fresh.

Bought the fish at the fish mongers and it wasn't imported. It will be a while before I can eat fish again. Saying that DH thought it was very yummy.
