Chit Chat / Re: What have you been doing today?
« on: September 15, 2016, 06:48:58 am »
Just booked the last part of our holiday. We leave in just over a week and only just finalised the final bit.

We are traveling to London for a few days then on to Bournouth for 5 nights where I will run the Bournemouth marathon, after that we have 4 nights on a canal boat near Nottingham. Finally training over to PAris for 5 nights before heading home with a two night layover in Bangkok.

DW is very excited we are going to Chawton, Lyme Regis and Bath as day trips from Bournemouth. She is a Jane Ausitn tragic. I am not that excited about the trip at all, it just feels like more work.

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Re: Kneading mode RPM

I usually go 4 minutes for most recipes I convert but I have gone longer depending on the type of bread.

Hi Talgutt

I don't know what the rpm is for kneading in the TM but most bread conversions seem to work quite well with 4 to 6 minutes of kneading. Achookwoman is our bread making guru and might offer a different opinion.

I seem to have lost my mojo for everything lately, but I did manage to do some cooking today. I made butter and peanut butter to restock the larder. Then I made White chocolate, macadamia and cranberry biscuits and for tea I made some Macaroni Cheese that has pureed pumpkin sweet potato carrot and Zucchini in it.

Spent the last three days on the road for work. I had to spend two nights in a B&B in Toodyay, my room was nice enough but there wasn't a tv in the room and no wifi. The plus was I discovered the best artisan bakery that also makes fantastic coffee.

Soups / Re: Minestrone Soup
« on: August 24, 2016, 01:52:33 pm »
Made this tonight, it was very good. Here are some tweaks I will try when I make it again.

Reduce the EVOO to 30gm and add 20gm butter.
Leave out the fresh tomato and add a can of crushed tomatoes with the stock and water, reduce the water to compensate for the extra volume of the tinned tomatoes.

Hi Allen,
Welcome to the forum. I am sure you will enjoy  your TM. My parents are dam Yankees, you know the ones that move down south and won't go home. They live not far from the Georgia border near Aiken South Carolina.

You will find the forum a friendly place where everyone is happy to help.

Tips and Tricks / Re: What is a dessertspoon
« on: August 21, 2016, 08:33:30 am »
A perfect answer DD. I actually keep a set of spoons that has a 15ml tablespoon for my US and UK recipes.

After 30 years of living in Australia I am pretty good at translating from imperial to metric.

Allen I find that as long as you keep the proportions the same most recipes will work. If you use non metric cup and spoon measurements most recipes should turn out fine. You just need to watch the total volume does not exceed the TM's capacity.

In Australia a tablespoon is usually 20ml but we are seeing more and more 15ml tablespoons. I am not sure desset spoon is an official measure but I have seen 10 ml assciated with this term. Moslty I think of a dessert spoon as a spoon used to eat cereal or dessert, bigger thatn a teaspoon but not as big as a serving spoon (tablespoon).

It is an inexact measure as in grab a spoon from the cutlury drawer and use uit, greatly affected by how much you heap it.

Chit Chat / Re: What is for Breakfast

Breakfast bruscetta, a crumpet toasted and topped with low fat ricotta mixed berries and a sprinkle of cinnamon. It is quite yum but would be better on some of Chookies sourdough crumpets.

We had one that belonged to DW's grandmother but it died a few years ago and we never replaced it.  We used to roast veggies in it and make pancakes. We have a small electric skillet in our city unit.

Today I used my waffle maker to cook zuchinni slice. I just made my usual zuchinni slice recipe and cooked it as waffles. I need to figure out something to make to add to this so it can make a meal. I am trying to think of something with pumpkin, maybe a mash or some sort of stewed pumpkin.

I am starting to feel like cooking again but I am too tired and busy when I get home from work.  :P

Soups / Re: Creamy Vegetable ( chicken ) soup. Low Carb.
« on: June 18, 2016, 10:46:41 am »
I made this soup again. THis time I started with half an onion which I chopped with 3 mushrooms to hide them from DW. I sauteed these in a little butter and EVOO. I also used raw chicken instead of cooked. I added the raw chicken with the cubed vegetables and cooked for 10 minutes at 100 reverse speed 1.

Chit Chat / Re: Some news about our young Amy

That might be it Judy. I have tried to find the name of the town in my online conversations with her to no avail.

She is a long way from home and feeling it sometime. Uncle Den chats with her a bit online when it all gets a bit much. She sent me a a picture of her ultrasound. I was amazed by the clarity of the image. When DW was pregnant with our girls all you could see were squiggly lines.

Chit Chat / Some news about our young Amy
« on: June 05, 2016, 06:33:15 am »
I have been in contact with young Amy formally from Albany and I though many of our older members might like to know how she is doing.

Amy is enrolled in University in Adelaide and she lives some where about 90 minutes out of the city in the Borassa. I can't remember the name of the town but it starts with T. She finds the travel in and to Uni by bus a bit challenging. She is studying psychology and seems to be enjoying it.

Amy also has a boy friend, Robbie, that she lives with who is also studying at University. The big news is that she will be a mother in about 4 months. Amy and Robbie expect a baby boy in about 21 weeks. She has been suffering badly with morning sickness and is feeling a bit stressed and I think a little lonely.

Amy has promised me a photo of her and Robbie, I will share it when she does.
