No cooking today.
I’ve made over 140 jars of preserves in the last year. I’m surprised but know this is so as I’ve used 140 labels of those that I had printed. Most has been made in small batches in the TMX. 3/4 of the fruit and jars have been donated as has some of the sugar. I have enough in storage for this year for Probus.  They give jam as prizes and for birthdays at the Book Club. I also give a lot away. I’ve created fruit pastes as an alternative to Quince paste, to eat with cheese. They can also be thinned to use as a marinade. The TMX is very good for making these.
A friend has set up a Gin distillery in Tassie and part of the process is to strain out the botanicals, ( herbs and spices) I’m looking to see if these can be used in either vinegar or pastes. An interesting challenge.

Marina, that is amazing. I’ve had disasters but never like that.

Marina, that sounds fantastic.
Mab, well done. Only good thing about a hot day is how quickly the washing dries.
To start the year off, Probus have a picnic in the Park. Somewhere near the lake. Hope I can find it. We take our own lunch. I’m taking a curried egg and lettuce sandwich. I made a loaf of potato bread with added sesame seeds.
Yesterday went  plant shopping with DD and GD. I bought lots of veggie seedlings. Then found a new cafe to have lunch.

Thanks . I keep a small box with small jars of jam in the car. If someone looks a bit sad or does me a good deed I give them a pot. It’s nice to brighten up someone’s day.
Yesterday I booked a trip on the Ghan with a couple of side trips with Outback Spirit. My biggest worry was the Airport. Ral was very good at navigating this. DD has offered to fly with me to Adelaide. Judy, hope we might catch up. Late July. ( coldest and wettest time in Ballarat ).

More sweet Chilly sauce. I have 2 recipes. One tomato based and one that has sultanas in it. I like the look and milder taste of the tomato one , but the other one sure has a kick.

Last minute invite to go out for dinner. Lovely, with DD and GD. 3 generations enjoying a meal at Nolan’s. Sweets delicious. Frozen lemon gelato in lemon shell with soft meringue tops. The sauces and dressings are always amazing.

Thank heavens the days of Dentist torture are over.
I had a blood test yesterday. Normally it is a shocking procedure. They stick the needle in and wobble it around hoping to find blood. Yesterday I tried a new small clinic, walking distance from home.  One lady looked at my arm and said she didn’t think she could do it. Called the other lady. She inserted needle and blood flowed. I couldn’t believe it. Afterwards, not even a sign of where the needle went in. I returned with a pot of jam for each. One for honestly recognising that she wasn’t up to the task and the second miracle worker.  Their delight at the unexpected gift was lovely.
