Made this to have with our lunch, not knowing exactly what frappe was. :-)) I thought it was just iced coffee but googling it soon set me on the right train of thought. Mine looks nothing like the picture but with slight tweaks tasted great. Wasn't sweet enough for me so I added 2 heaped tspn icing sugar at the end along with a couple more glugs of milk as it was a fairly strong coffee flavour with 10g coffee being 6 tspns. I used espresso instant coffee. We ended up drinking it from a very thick straw and both enjoyed it. I told DH it was frappe, he told me it tasted just like coffee :D :D :D
-
I LOOOOOVVVVVEEEE frappe's - I haven't tried this yet ... purely from a resistance point .... knowing that I will just keep making it and that is dangerous :D
-
One glass won't do you any harm Kathryn - there are enough adults in your house to share the rest with. Lovely on a hot day and will be a special treat here too.
-
SHARE :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
no no no JD you don't understand .... there would be no sharing and I would make it every day :-)) :-))
I will make it, that I know as my will power will give out to won't power eventually
-
Oh faffa_70, you have to make it, as it is deeeeeelicious ;D
I made it exactly as the recipe and thankfully I had 3 teens to share it with otherwise yes I would have scoffed the lot!!! Their verdict? Just like Maccas, which was praise indeed. Next time I would probably add whipped cream on top to make it totally and utterly indulgent :P
I give this recipe a 5/5 and the perfect hot weather drink, loved it.
-
Made this yesterday for coffee loving DH. Although he doesn't like milky drinks he loved this and said he would definitely have it again. Great for a hot day and mix makes more than enough for 3 people. 5/5 from this house.
-
Knittercook I love your way of thinking ;)
I love a Mocha Frappe and would love to add some drinking chocolate to the mix, top with cream and sprinkling of chocolate on top ;D
You could even add some syrups to change the flavour slightly. the possibilities are endless :)
-
Yum. Really hanging out for this book to arrive.
-
Yep thanks for your encouragement too Sharon!! Made this last night ... DH read the thread over my shoulder and demanded to know where the book was :-)) :-))
a 5/5 from us here is well ;D ;D ;D
-
It sounds wonderful. Love your photo too Judy.

I made this tonight with decaf coffee to get through the current Melbourne heat wave. I actually believe it is quite healthy even though it looks very decadent. The majority of the ingredients is ice cubes. Also, I used skim milk and slightly more sugar than in the recipe but basically 50g sugar and 100g milk divided amongst 4 people as the recipe suggests is hardly anything per person. Also, the butterfly whips up the frappe so well you'd think you are eating something with a lot of cream in it. All round, an amazing recipe and I can think of all sorts of possibilities eg adding a little bit of amaretto or almond liquer etc. Also, as Judy suggested, next time I might use less instant coffee, but that is my personal preference, I didn't think the coffee taste was overwhelming but I am just not a huge coffee person! Well done Alyce- another brilliant yet simple recipe and as a bonus, I'm thinking of the electricity I saved not having to put the aircon on!!
-
We were having the same discussion too about how healthy it really is and that you don't even feel the need for whipped cream etc as it is so decadent in mouth feel :D
Maybe I could make this everyday and not share :-[ :-[ :-[ :D
-
Merlin, you've put such a healthy slant on that recipe that no-one should feel guilty having it whenever they feel like it ;D
-
Thanks JD- although shame about the calories in the glass of wine I am just having to congratulate myself on finally getting the kids to bed on a hot evening!!!
-
I made this today too so I could cool down in this hot Melbourne weather. I agree that it is delicious, cool and amazingly creamy for the ingredients in it.
-
Yes very yummy :) DH and I shared it (in our Tervis tumblers) which are large insulated boating cups with lids or straw lids :)
-
Where can I buy this book?
I love frappe and "need" this recipe :-*

Made this today, left out the sugar and halved the recipe. I will make it again and again. Might try freezing some expresso to use instead of instant coffee.
It has amazing texture for so few ingredients. Lovely drink for hot weather.
-
Looking forward to making this.
I dont take sugar in my coffee, so I dont think I need to add any.
H :)
-
I don't have sugar in ordinary coffee Hally but I find with coffee made with milk I need to add some. If you make it without then find it is not sweet enough, you can always add some icing sugar at the end like I did (on top of the original amount of sugar :-))) and blitz it some more.
-
Yes will make it without & can always add as you say.
H :)

Last week I made this for DS13, a tradesman & I to share. Since then DS has been making his own by halving the recipe and using a 10gm sachet of Mocha. Little rat doesn't share either :( :( :(
-
LOL

Made this to take out with me. Made the full amount. Yesterday i put 4 short blacks in the fridge to make this today. Used hilo milk & no sugar.
Dont know what you are all worried about with the calories, low fat milk is fine & I reckon you have more calories in a skinny latte, all milk no ice. Its not as strong as I thought it would be, so next time will use 6 short blacks.
Enjoying, but woukd like it stronger.
H :)

This is really yummy. I agree with Hally - the fat and calories in this are negligible - even if you use full cream milk it's only about 1 gram of fat per serve plus 13g of carbs (according to Living Cookbook) - so frappe away! I made a half amount today for DH and I (whilst everyone else was out of the house ;) ) and was very impressed by the lovely foamy texture. Sadly it didn't quite fit into the two glasses so someone had to finish off the last bits 8)
I think other flavours would work - might try unsweetened cocoa (or sweetened and leave out the sugar) - fruit would be good too but not sure how to put in a concentrated 'shot' of flavour without resorting to chemically enhanced concentrates or essences. I think fresh fruit would be too bulky and would end up with a sorbet/slushy.
-
Hmmm I've just noticed that I posted that at 6.50am whilst I'm quite sure it's 2.52pm. Hally is either a night owl (1.52am) or something is a bit wonky with the times here! ???

I made this in my Thermochef today and it's delicious. I followed the recipe to a T, and my only small criticism, is that it is too sweet for me. I usually make myself an iced coffee without any sugar, so next time I'll tryit without any sugar. However, that's just a personal preference and the world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things. I cant wait to make it for DH as i think he'll love it.. It's so smooth and creamy. I am so glad I got this book for my birthday ;D
-
I am so glad I bought this book, have tried a few recipes out of it, and they have been very successful. As for the coffee frappe', as I'm not a coffee lover at all, I thought I'd try it on my DH and my loving parents. The result wasn't quite what I expected, as we only occasionally use coffee in our house, we buy the more decadent Moccano Indulgence variety, and as I followed the recipe to the tea, the main response was that it was way too strong!!! I haven't made it since so will look at reducing it from 20g to 10g and seeing how it goes. I have modified the recipe and swapped out the coffee with Milo and that has been a treat for DS6 and his two mates ;D all of them giving it the thumbs up, plus I also halved the recipe for them since it makes so much
-
Just made this for afternoon tea using a couple of shots of short black (don't have instant coffee). I also put a couple of teaspoons of crio bru in - hoping it will give me the attention to get off this forum and do my uni assignment!
absolutely delicious- will be making it regularly throughout summer!
-
Thanks for that Snappy, I saw the recipe in the book and also don't keep any kin of instant coffee I. The house only a coffee machine, so will use two shots of espresso. When you say you put in teaspoon of crio bru, do you mean the liquid or the grounds??
-
I mean the grounds (unbrewed). I add them with the sugar to grind them up. You still get some granules in your drink but I don't mind that
-
Sounds like a new flavour to be investigated.
-
Made this for the first time today with two shots of espresso. Very nice!!
-
Made this for guests today and they were impressed. What a cooling and delicious treat. I used a 3 in 1 coffee sachet and it was just right for us.
-
This is the first recipe I tried from this book I received from Christmas. It was the perfect day for it. Loved it, except for the fact that it was too sweet for me. I think this has to do with the fact that I used a Jarrah flavoured coffee which probably has coffee in it already. Next time I will just use a shot or two from the coffee machine.
It was enough for 2 of us however our toddler was very keen to have it too and wouldn't let hubby drink his. Fortunately she went to bed on time.
Here's a photo:

I made this recipe after a hot day yesterday. During the earlier steps I thought that I'd stuffed up...but once I added the butterfly attachment and did that step it turned out light and enjoyable.
I would probably make a few changes if I were to do it again (just personal preference):
I would reduce the sugar to 30g
I would reduce the coffee slightly (I was using instant coffee moccona dark roast, which was probably a little too strong for my taste buds)
Or....I'd probably prefer it with a shot of espresso coffee instead of the instant.
Next time we have a hot day (probably tomorrow at this rate) I'll try it again using less sugar and a shot of espresso coffee :) Will report back!
-
I haven't made this for ages. Thanks for the reminder. It's over 35 everyday here at the moment. I think I'll use an espresso shot for mine, in the middle of the afternoon.
-
Yum yum yum, but I must say it's easier and quicker in the Vitamix in this case.
