TM6 question
« on: August 09, 2019, 10:23:00 pm »
Hello everyone, it’s been quite some time since I’ve popped in and asked a question but I am doing a bit of research. I am wondering whether to purchase a TM5 second hand or go with the TM6. I am going to go to a cooking class to see it demonstrated but obviously they will try and sell me a TM6. The reason that I’m hesitating purchasing a TM6 is I like to convert my own recipes and my much used TM31 allows me to do this, but can I only use Cookidoo recipes to access some of the TM6 functions?

Thanks for any advice  :)

Hi Shazza, you’re the second ‘old member’ to pop in today.  I’m sure someone here will be able to answer your question, not me though as like you I’m still using my 11 year old TM31.

Hi JD, I love my TM31 and it certainly is looking a bit battered but has never skipped a beat! And I won’t be getting rid of it, I looked into purchasing another bowl but the cost of that led me to think that I’d be better off putting that money into a new or newish secondhand, perhaps.

Hi knittercook. Lovely to hear from you. I have my 31 and the 5.  The 6 does a few things that the 5 doesn’t. If you look on you tube Sophia’s kitchen has done a couple of good reviews of the TM 6.  https://www.google.com.au/search?q=sophia%27s+kitchen+reciew+of+thermomix+6&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-au&client=safari

I don’t know if that will find it, but they are good reviews.
I’m pretty sure you can still se the 6 like the 31.  That is program it yourself as you go.

Hi Cookie1, it was her review that actually made me think the TM5 might be a better option, I really need to go and see it in action   :)

some of the features you can only use like the higher heat with the TM6, through cookidoo.

I am glasd I have both, and I am using both.

Robyn, could you use the higher heat yourself? Not using Cookidoo, just changing the settings yourself?

No, I haven't yet, It seems to be only with certain cookidoo recipes, not by itself.

That's mean.  :o :o :o :o
DD and I are going to the Good Food and Wine show next week. They had a class using the 6, making and Indian take away that is hands on. We are booked as we thought it was a good way to play with the 6 and no pressure. I'd love one but it is not at all sensible.

I guess I am a old 'stick in the mud' TM31 user, but I do not see the use or benefit of an upgraded all bells and whistles machine if you cannot over-ride it and use it manually to do what you want and not be tied only to a pre-programmed set of recipes, no matter how varied they may be.  So many of my recipes are vegan and, from reading the above comments, I would guess that I couldn't make as much use of one of the newer models as I do of the 31 for that reason.

I should qualify that by saying that I have never even seen a 5 or a 6 so the above may (just possibly ??? ) be a totally biased opinion!

That’s pretty much how I feel.

I mainly use my 5 to do what ever I wish.  I occasionally use Cookidoo but never t much. I think having learnt on the 31 I am happy to do my own thing on the 5. I watched a video of Tenina using all 3 yesterday. She mentioned that unless you wish to makes tons of honeycomb or do sousevide for a ton of people then the 31 and 5 are perfect.

Thank you for that, exactly what I needed to hear, I love the flexibility of my TM31 I can use it exactly how I want. An apprentice in the kitchen (does all the prep work) or a full on chef (makes meals and bread with ease) working on any recipe I choose not restricted to only those on Cookidoo. I actually subscribe to Cookidoo as I love to pinch a bit of this recipe and technique and add it to another recipe and there are many, many choices.

I have been looking into joining Teninas club, any thoughts?

I believe Cookie is a member of Tenina's club.  I was at one stage as well but dropped out as I found I wasn't following all her videos and posts (and so many of her recipes were not relevant to me due to dietary requirements).  She is very inspiring, though, so you will undoubtedly get far more out of a membership than I did.  Wait until Cookie comes on and see what she says.
