Firstly I apologise to those who already know this tip but I had never heard it & when I did ...
In the Melbourne Herald Sun on Monday a lady had written in to a section in the paper called In Black & White to say that she had discovered that at either end of your cling wrap, tin foil or glad bake packets there are tabs that when pushed in they secure the rolls in place and they no longer bounce around!!
Of course I went straight to the cupboard & got out the cling wrap and tad-ah there it was, pushed them in and no more cling wrap bouncing around!!!!!
As they say small things amuse small minds but I,m loving it!
Sh an :D

:P I never knew that either.......and it even says "press to lock roll in place".... LOL......well I learnt that today anyways 8)

Ahhh Shan my (now) 16 year old has always been obsessed with boxes and packaging and he discovered those little tabs a few years ago from memory. :-[
I do recall feeling rather daft that I'd never noticed them before but they sure do make life a little easier!! :)
-
Well, I'll be ...
How come I've never heard of these before?
I've just been in the drawer and secured all the rolls!
-
I've just done the same... thanks for the tip shanmac :) :)
-
gonna give it a go over the weekend :-* thx for the tip
-
I only found out about this recently as well Shanmac. ;)
-
I knew about it only because two or three years ago when Glad wrap offered Christmas design wrap, there was a big sticker on the outside of the box with instructions on how to secure the roll by pushing in the tabs.
I don't use clingfilm in regular boxes, I buy the giant commercial rolls of Reynolds clingfilm at Costco or Sam's Club. One box, 18 inches x 1000 feet, lasts me a few years and it's much easier to position a bowl or ? next to the (heavy) box pull out a length, secure it on one side and use the (very sharp) cutter on the end still connected to the roll.
It may seem like a lot of money but it is more economical in the long run.
The regular stuff is not wide enough to cover most pans or large bowls so one has to use two lengths. With the wider film, one length is enough and this stuff really clings, even to many plastics, as long as they have a smooth surface.

;D I only discovered this a couple of weeks ago.
It does work.

They say you learn something everyday. Off to do mine. Thanks.
-
I will check. Wonder if that is something that has also caught on in continental Europe?
Xxx
;D

There were some like that in the UK 5 years ago not noticed it so much here (certainly on one brand but we don't tend to buy that)
-
Hmmm....must go look now ;D
-
Amazing the things you learn on this forum. Thanks
-
Just done mine as well - how often do we look but not "see"!
-
I know, when I read the tip I was sure that this lady & I must have been the only two people that had never heard of this!!
Seems like its one of the best kept secrets.

Oh my goodness.......who would have guessed!! Just went and looked....thinking, "No, not on my watch" and sure enough the tabs were there.
-

i did not find it on the gladwrap i use the larger one, it was on the coles baking paper
-
How funny - I knew exactly what you were taking about when you described it shanmac but never conscientiously noticed it! :o As Cuildh says "we look but don't see!!!" :-)) How fab - thanks. ;)
-
Thanks, I didn't know that either!!!
-
me either and theres a how to design etc on the box and all lol...amazing the things we miss...thankyou as i often fight trying to keep the roll in the box...slippery little bugger always wants to pop out!

I used to have that problem with the half-sized Saran wrap - no end tabs to hold the roll in place - I just used tape on each end to keep the box closed and put a short strip of the double-sided "removable" tacky tape on the front of the box below the cutter so the film wouldn't slip back inside the box. Works great.

Well I'll be ........
I've never noticed this before
-
hehhe I never knew this either and I have a whole shelf full of glad wraps, alfoils, glad go between, baking paper etc etc! Going to check them all out when I get home. Thanks for the tip!
