Thanks for this Jeanne - I haven't had Bobotie for ages so it will be great to try out your recipe.

The classic Bobotie recipe uses apricot jam (2 tbsp) rather than the chutney as well as almonds pushed into the surface before pouring the egg mixture over the top.  Then serve it with chutney on the side (HAS to be Mrs. Ball's chutney of course  ;D), rice lightly flavoured/coloured with turmeric and raisins and a crisp green salad.  I've got a dinner do on Saturday and this is just what Ill be dishing up. I do not know what this recipe would be like -to me it sounds like Bobtail (as in goanna) and I would not make it. A photo would help...

Thanx for your comments and the lovely photo's!

Yes, there are as many versions of bobotie as there are of paella or lasagne!

My recipe is one by mrs Tienie Vorster, wife of a past president of South Africa. She made a study of the Malay cooking culture and I like her recipe best. But my mother again put raisins into the mince mixture which was also nice. The turmeric flavoured rice is very tasty with the dish and is known in SA as "funeral rice" because it was served after funerals as accompaniment to lamb dishes or bobotie!

Anyway, try it out and let me know what you think.

This dish was served up all around Australia at Thermomix consultant meetings, as part of the exciting launch of Thermofest 2014.  Delicious food for this time of the year.  Thank you for sharing.
