Any icing  would work  ;)  If she's a chocoholic, and nice chocolate ganache perhaps.
The icing I used was the creamy vanilla frosting with added cherry jam as mentioned above.

This works well for cupcakes too.





I set the oven on 170c, and baked the smaller cupcakes for 23 minutes...and the larger ones for 27 minutes.
Topped with the creamy vanilla frosting, with only 1 tsp. vanilla extract, and 50g strawberry conserve (blitzed first).

Can you please tell me how you make the icing flowers? Do you use an icing bag with a special nozzle. They look awesome!

The link Jakodai posted is how you do them.  Really simple....a Wilton 1M tip, keep your bag vertical and pipe from the centre to the outside.  The creamy vanilla frosting is the perfect icing for these.

Celebrating DH PhD graduation with this cake.  I'm using Cadbury Premium baking Chocolate 45% and Nature's Cuppa instead of coffee.  Baking in the oven now.
