Thanks Maddy have never heard of Mexican Oil Cloth but will now look into getting some for the dining table.  With a little mess maker, something that wipes clean is a blessing.  Did you buy online or from a shop?

Was it Mexican oilcloth that was round in the 50's and people used it as tablecloths? It sounds the same, no fraying and easy to wipe down.

Our Mums all seemed to have it didn't they Cookie?  Quite thick and robust compared to those silly plastic tablecloths you buy today for outdoor eating (not that I bother).

:) My Mum had that for our tablecloths growing up. Bought it by the meter.

It was much better than the plastic ones that are out today.

Sure did.....here http://www.fabrictraders.com.au/shop/oilcloth-fabric-prints
They have 6 pages of cool designs, and they also sell stacks of other gorgeous materials.
It comes folded, so you lay it out in the sun for a little while to smooth out the folds apparently.
I love my linen cloths, but only for occassions now.....hubby spills his coffee over almost daily  :-))

Maddy, I wondered how you got on with your weekend's shopping.  Thanks for posting the images - perhaps it's as well I didn't get over to Daylesford after all!

Love the placemats Maddy.

Spotlight sell something similar to your oilcloth tablecloth.  They are on long rolls and you buy as much as you need.  Many different patterns and colours.  :)

Probably, LOL.....the streets and shops/cafes were absolutely packed with people......so if you don't like crowds....Easter is not the time to go!

I did check spotlight and lincraft here, but they didn't have much choice.....and some were downright ugly  :P

I bought my oilcloth apron here

I have to say though the quality is not a patch on the old stuff.

Therevis something very similar over here.. They sell a huge variety of printscand colours on large rolls and you just get it cut to size... Heaps easier than a fabric tablecloth although we have stainfree cloth tablecloths too.. They are very common in france for the simplecreason they last a long timevnd its just a matter of wiping with a cloth however not very sheek... I prefer cloth tablecloths but these plastified type cloths are far more practical especially with young kids..

Not having youngsters I like to use placemats so that I can show off my jarrah tables. For some visitors I do use a cloth though as they have no respect for my jarrah tables. :-\ :-\

I need to HIDE my table! It's only laminated wood, and has scratched and got burn marks and all. I'm going to look at that site and get some oilcloth, Maddy.

You sure did have a good time shopping! I bought this at Everten online recently:

A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.
