Title: Inserting a hyperlink.
Post by: nola276 on December 04, 2011, 04:09:34 am
I have inserted a hyperlink into my posts successfully, but I can't seem to do it the way a lot of members do.  They are able to write a word such as here and when you click on the word you are taken to the relevant site or thread.  Can anyone shed a bit of light on this area for me.  Thanks.

Thank you so much Andie.  I will try it the next time I want to link something (http://www.commenthaven.com/graphics/cute/thumbs-up-awesome.gif) (http://www.commenthaven.com/)

Here's CP's instructions if you want to try hers - I learnt to do it from this one.

"this is really easy to do, and maybe these instructions could work for you:

1. Bring up the webpage you wish to draw attention to.
2. Way up above (where the address shows http:/forumthermomix.com/index...etc is at the very top of your computer screen on the toolbar) - just copy and paste that whole address and note the name of the topic eg. Thai Sweet Potato & Lentil Soup
3. In the topic where you are going to post, type in Thai Sweet Potato & Lentil Soup
4. Now highlight with your mouse, Thai Sweet Potato & Lentil Soup
5. Just above the smiley faces, click on the Globe of the Earth symbol (3rd one from the left)
6. Just in front of the first word that you have just highlighted (eg. Thai) you will see (url)
7. In between the l and the ] type in an equal sign
8. Between the equal sign and the square bracket, copy and paste the webpage (from Step 2)
9. It basically looks like this in the section where you type, but without the spaces and underline : ( url= http://www. forumthermomix. com/index.php?topic=3711.0 ]Thai Sweet Potato & Lentil Soup (url)
10. When you click "Preview" it will look like this Thai Sweet Potato & Lentil Soup

(*NB: in most instances I have replaced a square bracket with a normal curved bracket, as the computer recognised this as a function key and did weird things. If your screen shows a square bracket, thats normal. Sometimes I also have a couple of forum web pages open as it makes flicking backwards and forwards easy, but don't worry about that until you have the hang of hyperlinking)"

I sent the instructions.  I am going to try again to paste it into this message and see if it will copy correctly pasted as a quotation.

No good, it keeps knocking out the bracketed bits.

I've taken a screen shot, uploaded it to Photo Bucket and inserted it here:

Well done, Uni.  It's really easy once you've done it one or two times.  Now, if only I could conquer photos, but seeing as I hardly ever insert them it's not a big thing for me.

I sometimes have trouble with my hyperlinks. They take 2 or 3 goes to get it correct. Other times it works first try. Not sure what I'm doing wrong sometimes.

I had trouble with photos on other forums until I "discovered" Photo Bucket a few years ago.  I think I uploaded my first photos in early 2006.
I edit most of my photos on my computer before uploading to Photo Bucket but occasionally I have uploaded raw photos, usually from my cell phone and edited them in PB.

I kinda like to use the whole thing instead of here as I may not want to go here unless I know what is there. LOL!

I'm working on it JD  ??? Can link from another site but not from the the forum. Will try again.

Is it different to link a post from the forum than a from another site?
Title: Re: Inserting a hyperlink.
Post by: judydawn on October 04, 2012, 12:55:19 am
No, it's the same Michele.  Write down what you are doing for an external link then do the same for a forum link and if it isn't working, let us know and we can try and run you through it again.

OK, seems I can link to another site just not the forum. Will give it one more go.

Michele, hope you have it all written down because if you don't use it often to start with you may forget how you did it - speaking from experience of course  :P  Instead of the word here you can say  Tuna Mornay and use that the go to word so that people know if they want to go there or not.

Yes, I will have to get a larger repertoire of words than here  ;D
Thanks JD, will get rid of my practice go's.

Thanks to your instructions, Andi - and after a few practice goes (a few required as it turned out I didn't read the instructions carefully enough  :-)) , I now know how to do this . . .Once you get the hang of it, (and do it often enough that you don't forget the steps) it's really very simple  ;D

Good going there GF, it does take practice but after a few times it is unbelievably easy.  It always pays to check your link as we do mess up from time to time and someone soon lets us know our link isn't working  ;) ;D

When CP first posted the instructions I printed them off and had them beside me. Now I can do it except on the ipad. I am not very good at copying and pasting with that, it's more luck than anything. I now use the ipad for the forum much more than the computer.

MEP I find it so much easier to use the ipad for photos. Using the computer and my camera was a drama.

If you have an iPad/Tablet, the Tapatalk app makes photos really easy...the only problem is that htye can be a little big for others to view, but we all understand!!!
