Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / castor sugar
« on: July 16, 2012, 07:05:32 am »
HI, just wondering if anyone has made castor sugar.  If so how long do you mill it for (I don't want icing sugar) also do you use normal white sugar or raw sugar, thanks, Natalia

Thanks Thermolicious, I will have to try it.

Sounds lovely, have you made this with a thermomix?  I was just looking at the quantities and was wondering if it would all fit?

Oh good, I don't feel like such an idiot now.  Glad to hear that other people had troubles with this recipie.  Sorry that I am gloating over your misfortunes  :-[  I think Nay Nay's scones are worth the try from everyone's reviews, Natalia

Recipe Requests / Re: Condensed milk recipe,I know its here

I am interested too, which one is most like the tinned version.  I mostly make fudges with condensed milk (it would be great if I could make a homemade version, so much cheaper!).

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Re: Garlic paste

Thanks, these are great ideas, I think I will use the paste before it goes off, but I was just wanting a guesstimate of how long it lasts so I can gauge how much I make or how quickly it should be used, thanks. Natalia

Hi, I was just wondering how long the garlic paste can last in the fridge before you need to throw it out, thanks

Hi, you could par bake the ones you don't want to eat and then freeze them.  You then finish cooking them when you want them. HTH, Natalia

Thanks Dede, I made this up yesterday, now I just have to get the cleaning bug lol.  It smells sooooo good (alot of homemade cleaning products recomment lavender and I hate lavender).  I love eucalyptus and am looking forward to my house smelling like a forest.   ;)

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Re: edc yogurt
« on: June 18, 2012, 04:53:04 am »
Thanks ladies I will have to continue to experiment.  Amy I'm naughty too sometimes (but don't tell my kids  :o)
Thanks Judy for the link to faffa's yogurt thread I bought the yogurt culture this morning which was suggested on the thread as i think it will be cheaper than buying the yogurt as a starter from Coles.  My kids demolished 2kg yesterday.  They are relishing in being able to eat as much as they like (my poor yogurt deprived children!  :'()

Thanks cookie, if I stir through jam or stewed fruit through, won't that make the yogurt runny? Thanks

HI Sandra, I'm only new myself and have had a lot of failures with the edc so far.  Some are my fault though as I am still getting used to the tmx.  I have really liked the pizza and bread recipie so far (except I don't mill the buckwheat as my family don't like it so I just add an extra 100g of flour to replace it).  I have also found the butter and stock recipies very good.  I haven't tried a lot more.  I think I will still use it as a reference for a long time.  Hey if you don't like it, sell it on e-bay, they go for around $120 or more there.  HTH, Natalia

Thanks ladies, I will have to try both, they both look sooooo good.  Can I put sugar in at the beginning or does it affect the setting of the yogurt, thanks

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / edc yogurt
« on: June 14, 2012, 07:30:47 am »
Hi everyone, I tried the edc yogurt last night.  I added some sugar at the start as we don't really like it a la natural.  It was quite good for a first effort.  It was a little runny and not thick and creamy as the recipie states.  I put it into the thermoserver (after I had put hot water into it for a few minutes.
Any ideas on how to improve my yogurt?  Has anyone tried to make 2litres at once, did you have to cook it longer or anything else differently?  Our household consists of 6 yogurt lovers (for this reason I don't usually buy the store yogurt as 1kg only lasts 1 day if I ration it).
Thanks for your thoughts, Natalia
