Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello from California!

My DH has always said I am like a chook, go to bed when it gets dark and get up with the sun. :P I'm not really that bad!  I must admit since retiring  4 years ago there are not enough hours in the day.

Jams and Chutneys / Fig Jam
« on: February 05, 2010, 12:22:04 pm »
Has anyone made fig jam in the TMX? I see there is a recipe in the EDC. DH brought home heaps of figs today and wants jam. I'll give it a go tomorrow and see how it goes.

Thanks Katya, there seems to be lots of cheap tomatoes round at the moment, or better still from the garden.

Perhaps someone who helps their Mum or Nonna make tomato paste may have some ideas. We have an Italian friend who used to help his Mum, will ask him next time we see him.

Bread / Re: MY "VERY NORMAL" BREAD
« on: February 05, 2010, 12:15:04 pm »
When I made this bread the other day I used 520g of bakers' flour and it was not sticky at all, just right.

CP63, I have been trying to get some fresh yeast too. I used to buy it in health food shops but none seem to have it. I believe VHJ asked at Brumby's and was suitably rewarded. I'll go and try my local one during next week.

I managed to get a kilo of bananas at the greengrocer for $1 so I may give this a try. We've been having banana thickshakes.

Mumbai Calling had so many 'home truths' in it. I really enjoyed the show.

Judy it's lovely to hear that others have similar problems to me. ;)

I had the same problem and was running round frantically thinking I had broken my TMX. DD was cool and calm and checked the book and found out the reason-it was too hot.

Welcome to the forum. Unlike lots of others I really haven't tried much Mexican food so I look forward to your recipes.

You are right, we need to have another get together now that the ankle biters are back at school. MJ did you say you were coming to Perth in February?

I'm glad your TMX has arrived. It must have gone to the gold coast before it got to you. 15 days is a long time. You could have driven over and picked it up. Have fun now that it has arrived. Don't forget that people on here are only too glad to help.
