Title: 21st present ideas please (Female)
Post by: faffa_70 on May 14, 2012, 02:46:11 pm
Help!! My son's beautiful lady is turning 21 this week and I have no idea what to get her ... buying for girls/ladies hasn't been high on my priorities for the past 21 years lol (I fuss make that 16 before DD arrived!!)

They have been dating for just over 12 months and it seems to be a serious relationship. We love her to bits so would be grateful of some suggestions.

p.s. she has been no help to anyone for suggestions lol  :-)) :-))

You can't go wrong with jewellery Kathryn.  Either a nice bracelet, necklace or earrings.  Check to see if she wears silver or gold and select accordingly.

Is she into Pandora bracelets Kathryn -  most females are, no matter what their age.

I did think of a pandora JD and was hoping DS might get her one and I could get her a nice charm or 2 ... seems he has seen another bracelet that he likes but needs to get her to try it on as she is sooo petite.

Might need to talk him into a pandora lol  :D

I received a beautiful jewelery box for my 21st that I still have.  Another present which I used alot was a leather overnight bag.  Other ideas photo frames (digital??), nice clutch purse for evenings.  Does she have any hobbies?

Meagan  swiss army knife it a great  present. I was given one years ago and still have it but maybe not for a 21st.

I like the idea of jewellery but a jewellery box is a really wonderful idea as it is something to treasure  everyday and a promise of things to come, however they can be very expensive.

I hate Pandora. I like the Swarovski crystal . It could be the beginning of a collection for her.  They have a champagne bottle,  grand piano, shoes, etc. Eventually there  is a baby bottle, dummy, well you get the idea.

Let us know what you decide.

Oh my goodness I take that back. I was just looking at the  Swarovski crystal figurines and the prices are now astro.  Beautiful but  yikes. Stick with some simple jewellery.  I am gobsmacked .

A thermomix LOL.

The jewellery box is a good idea. You can get nice silver ones and have it engraved.

Cookbooks are good if she likes cooking.

How about a voucher for a pedicure, manicure, facial or body massage (or all of them to really spoil her), a clothes voucher on her favourite store or a nice watch. If she is sporty, a voucher on a sport's store perhaps and of course, the mandatory flowers to go with the voucher.

Just thinking of the gifts I received for my 21st (a long time ago) and what I still treasure. I got some gold earings from my godmother and  a  mohair rug ( which i wasnt excited about at the time, but has been in constant use). Other suggestions would be a good, comprehensive cookbook like Margaret Fulton's Encylopedia of Food and Cookery, or Stephanie Alexander's big orange book ( can't remeber what it's called)

I had the thought today of perhaps a nice set of crystal glasses ... I guess she will move out of home one day lol  :)

I am hopeless at buying for girls (no practice lol) but also my firstborn was only 9 days old at my 21st so my presents were mainly home related (I got a set of stainless steel pots from my parents - they are the ones that I have relegated to the shed for now until I get a new cook top  ;) ;))

Something a little different - I gave someone a coin set from the year they were born and also the newspaper from the day they were born.

Thanks for your posting Twitterpated.  That reminds me of something and this is a great place to offer it,  Sorry to gatecrash your thread Kathryn but no-one needs answer it, I am just putting it out there so that I can get rid of it.

A copy of the Adelaide Advertiser dated 30th June, 1943

We bought this to give to my parents on their 60th wedding anniversary so if there is someone from Adelaide whose parents or any other relative were born or married on that day and they would like this, please pm me and I will forward it to you.

Judy that is a very  generous offer. I so hope someone here fills the criteria.

I was going to suggest glasses also. I got nice crystal glasses, wine glasses, and a set of beer glasses from a group of male friends, and I still have them all. Also I don't think you can loose with a nice bag/wallet, you can never have too many when you're 21 can you? ;)

This is my standard gift for new babies now. I make up a memory chest for them and include the newspaper from the day they were born as well as the one their birth notice appears in, coin set, stamp set and a variety of current catalogues so they can see in the future the price of things and what technology was around. I also include some lists such as top ten for music and movies. You can make these up and spend as much or as little as you like.

Everyone who receives it seems to like it. I know from when I had my kids that you get so many presents that are all the same so I like to be a little different. Since then I have even ordered papers and coins for my own children for their 18th and they loved them. I would love to look back now to see what the world was like when I was born.

Gert I am like you and dislike Pandora jewellery.

Kathryn the crystal glasses sound lovely as do lots of other suggestions. One of DD's favourite gifts was a piece of jewellery that several of her friends chipped in for.

Many moons ago - for my 21st (I was married) I received a sandwich maker, an old huge brown thing which I only had to replace about 11 yrs ago and some fresh water pearls from my cousin which I still wear occasionally.

I'm not a fan of pandora either, and not going to get her jewellery as today on her actual birthday DS has given her a stunning white gold bracelet with a price tag that made me nearly fall over  :o :o (I train them well lol)

so off to the shops tomorrow for some more browsing and hopefully purchasing before her party on Saturday  :)

I was in trouble with DD this morning for not having her gift to give to her before she left for work  :-)) :-))

You did train DS well. The crystal stem ware still sounds like a good idea.
DJ's and Myers always have one sort or another on sale.
