Hi Chookie, that's a great idea and I would love to come along.
-
Chookie what a wonderful idea. Yes I am interested as it looks like I won't be making the trip to SA at this stage.
-
Good, Wonder and Kimmyh, love to meet you too.
-
What a wonderful idea. I look forward to hearing all about CC 's Australian adventures.
-
Thats a lovely idea chookie
-
I'd love to join you chookie, would it be alright if I bring my girls?
-
Deedub, that would be fine, although outside not suitable for toddlers.
Frozzie, just wanting to repay the generous hospitality shown to us by CC and her DH. Maybe if your DH gets a job in Melb. You could also join us.
-
Nice to see the planning for CC's trip is up and running - it will be a lovely afternoon Chookie and I hope you get as many members as possible there on the day. When you have worn CC out, she will be popped on the plane and sent over to me for SA's turn ;D
-
Is Sydney on CC's itinerary?? 8)
-
Are you ready for all the visits cc??
Chookie would definately be there if we are in melbourne.. Will play it by ear... Sydney still ongoing.. There is definately not a whole lot going on up here..
My brother lives in melbourne so im sure ill be down that way at some time or another.. 😁
-
Deedub, that would be fine, although outside not suitable for toddlers.
Thank you chookie! They'll be 10 & 8 by then, definitely not toddlers. Count us in!
-
I would like to say yes, but not just yet, still planning my holiday, I have a wedding in Qld End of August and was going to take the van up in July and spend a month up there , hum maybe I can do August September, I will have to get back to you. It's a very nice thing to do , thanks chookie.
-
AB, hope you can come.
-
Chookie how wonderful of you.
CC are you having a stop over in Perth at all? That would be perfect.
-
It will be wonderful to meet you all at Chookie's lunch :-* :-* :-*
I don't think I'll get to Perth on this trip Cookie :'( :'(
-
I've have been away for the past week and am just trying to catch up on the forum now.
What a wonderful idea and, at this stage, definitely count me in. We passed the road end to Cherokee last week when we were lost, so there is an outside chance I could get lost once more and find my way to Cherokee again!
-
Great Marina.
-
Hi All,
It's been a long time since I've popped in and said hi, though I do often pop by for a recipe or two :-*
I'd love to join you on the 11th of August if that's ok?
-
when do u need to know by ACW
-
That would be great ILB, meet a few you already know and some new ones as well. If all goes to plan here, I might well be popping over there myself for that one.
-
Will be great to meet some members in what sounds like a wonderful setting. Judy I'm sure there will be some very excited members if you are able to make it to Melbourne.
-
Judy, that would be fabulous - I am sure we Victorians would be magnanimous in allowing one SA interloper to join us.
-
Well I don't see too many of you on the list to come to our Adelaide retreat so I have to consider coming to you instead. As you know though, my best laid plans can come unstuck.
-
I can't make it to the SA retreat but I may be able to swing a weekend in Melbourne.
How long would it take me to drive to Chookies from Melbourne? I have a Navman and would be confident in driving once out of the city.
-
This all sounds like great fun.
-
Thought I had better bounce this get together with CC.
Judy, we would love for you to come, but are quite aware of the difficulties you face at the moment. I have reserved a bed for you.
I Love Bimby, you know you are most welcome. So is Grace.
Michele, that would be a REAL pleasure if you could come. We are on the North side of Melb. and about 1 hour from the city.
Frozzie, how about a visit to you brother and one to us ? love to meet you. DH and children welcome.
We have plenty of room for entertaining, so all the more the merrier. A good opportunity to catch up with CC and other Forum members. Let me know.
-
Michelle, more than happy to be your driver in Melbourne, I'm on the north side so an easy drive.
-
I'll tentatively put my name down too.
Just have to work out the logistics on how I'll get there etc.
I'm sure it's going to be a great day and I want to be there! ;D
-
Thank you Wonder, that's very kind of you. Will see how it goes and if DH is able to go with me. :)
-
I have three seats available in my car ... Judy and Katie ... if you are coming in on the same flight on Sunday morning I am happy to pick you up, however you may have other plans. Same goes for anyone coming in from out of town, Tullamarine airport is between us and Chookie's home so an airport pick up is no problem. If you are coming in to Avalon airport then I could pick from in town.
Deedub, I would be happy to car share if you like if none of the out of towners need a lift.
-
I'm also more than happy to help out. DS has weekend sport so I will be coming on my own so ave spare spots available. As the time gets closer we can firm up arrangements.
Cookie, now that there seem to be do many coming shout out if you need any help.
-
Thanks Marina, will get back to you on that one - must make a decision very soon though as I have my cancelled flights from last year's WA retreat which must be booked by the 13th May.
Nice to see the Melbourne girls putting their hands up to help out. Thanks to all of you.
-
Yes thanks Marina & Wonder, very kind of you ;D
I was thinking I might have to hire a car and drive myself there (and that was making me nervous).
Once Judy is in a position to make plans, I'll see if it's possible to be on the same flight as her (at least one way - she may stay longer than me). How exciting :D
-
Chookie would a Qlder be welcome at this get together as I was originally in for Adelaide until a mandatory conference was scheduled in Cairns August 15.
-
WOW, everyone is so generous with their offers. Thanks very much.
Uni, have been wanting to catch up with you, please come. Last minute fine, if it means you can come. Bring Frank if that make it easy.
Johnro, you are most welcome, DH says can you bring some fudge. ?????
As it will be winter still in August, we will eat inside. We can seat 20 formally, but probably 30plus informally. It is warm inside and cold out, but if not raining some nice walks. I can guarantee excellent company.
Think I should add to the heading. Ofcourse interstates are welcome.
-
Informally is quite OK Chookie if you get 30 takers - wow, it's amazing the interest shown in this get together. You may need to have a cut off point so I hope you are keeping a list of possibles at this stage. What would Ral like Katie & me to bring ;D No, can't bring belly pork roast, sorry Ral :-* :-* :-*
-
I will post a list of participants at the start of this thread. Please tell me if I have you in the wrong list. I will list firm participants and possibles.
-
I am sooo excited ladies. Can I start counting sleeps yet??? ;D
My car is empty (except me) and I am driving right past Avalon airport, so can do that pickup if anyone needs. Don't want to pick and choose, but someone who can read maps would be good, as I am odds on to get lost :D
-
A bunch of girls in a car could quite easily get lost Kimmy - most I know are terrible navigators including me. The maps are always the wrong way up for me.
-

Oh dear, and here I was relying on your map reading abilities to get us there, Judy! I'm thinking I will have to do a 'dummy' run up to Cherokee before August to familiarise myself with the road! I can see it now, half a dozen cars full of women buzzing around the Macedon area - GPS's and mobile phones running hot trying to find Bess and Ral ... anyone here done orienteerring?
-
I'm bringing my GPS. I will be OK when I'm out of the city. I'm not quite sure what to do driving next to trams. ???
-
If you are flying down you don't need to drive in the city at all if you are hiring a car - arrange for pick up and drop off at the airport. Driving around trams isn't so hard, just go slowly and, if the tram is stopping at a tram stop you are not allowed to move until either the doors close or the tram moves on and, if it is safe to do so without breaking any laws, you can pass the tram on the inside lane. The hardest part is if you are turning at a corner that has a 'hook' turn - if unsure, best advice is ... find another corner to turn at!
-
Don't talk about getting lost near Hanging Rock territory! Have a very happy time together.
-
GPS is my best friend, I have Tom Tom on my iPhone and ipad and works all across Australia.
-
I will post every one a map, although GPS should work.
Marina, a test drive sounds good. Morning/ afternoon tea, Lunch ?????
I have put 12.00 on the invitation, but earlier is fine.
-
It sounds really wonderful. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
Cookie, you could pop over. Not far from where you are going. Will be nice and cool here ;D
-
Looking up air flights. There is bound to be some cheap flights between now and August. :)
-

Keep looking. ;D
-
Love Melbourne. Looking forward to doing some shopping over the weekend. Haven't been to your lovely city for 2yrs.
-
Sounds great.
Thanks Chookie, I'll have Grace with me that weekend. We've been visiting Woodend a bit as my partners brother & his family live there. Let me know what I can bring.
If anyone needs a lift from NE or Central Vic (ie Shepp) I'm happy to offer a ride.
Also if anyone gets stuck at Tullamarine let me know too.
-
ILB, we are only 20 mins from Woodend. Thanks for the offer , not sure what we will eat yet, probably buffet. Looking forward to meeting Grace and catching up with you again. Happy memories of our last meeting.
-
ILB it's lovely to near from you.
-
Thanks Chookie and Cookie ;D
Madam will be thrilled to be amoungst a swarm of thermomix addicts! Haha.
Chookie, I'm actually heading to Cleveland Winery this weekend for work. I'll wave from there ;)
-
ILB, the funny thing about Perth get together was that we didn't talk much TMX. Tell Grace we have Kung Foo Panda on the TV and a couple of other things if she get bored with us and the chooks. They are there for the GC and Ral ;D
Cleveland looks very nice. What are you doing.?
-
Lol Chookie. Grace is righly in awe of the thermomix so gets pretty excited when she finds out that others have one. I think she'll just be glowing in good company ;)
Thanks for the movie offers, she will probably take you up on it too.
I work now for a Uni who has a clinical school in town here. They are running a student conference at Cleveland for the weekend and needed an extra staff member after someone else pulled out. As Grace is at her dads I've taken up the offer for a weekend away, learn more about the uni and get paid over time for it 8)
-
I've only just seen this thread.
Put me on the maybe list. I really hope that I'll be able to make it. it would be a wonderful get together
Ill know closer to the date and will give you a definite answer
-
Katie has been around tonight and we have done our flight bookings. It's a goer, can't wait to catch up with everyone, meet my old friend ILB and Grace at last and bring CC back home with me for a week which will include the Adelaide retreat.
Chookie, I've moved our names from the possibles to the sure bet list ;D
-
Oh my this has taken off.. Chookie thanks for the invite for the whole clan (are u sure lol!! Kids are 4 and 7) it could very much be a possibility.would also love to meet you finally aftermissing out during your trip to paris!! Will have a chat to dh and get back to you but would love to come.. See what happens :)
-
DH got good news today so we would definitely love to attend. ;D
We will be hiring a car at least for Sunday, so if anyone needs a ride we would love the company. ;D
-
Mich that is good news in many ways.
-
Yay Mich I am still deciding ;D
-
Wonderful news Mich, glad your DH is ok.
Looking forward to meeting you at Chookies.
-
It's great Mich that you and your hubby are able to go. Looking forward to meeting you.
-
Only just catching up on this thread, delighted that so many interstaters are coming, especially Judy! I'll have a couple of spare seats too although might not be able to stay until stumps if the kids start acting up (i.e. getting bored). Can help with airport pickups etc if required..
-
We will do our best by the kids. Let me know what they like doing. We want you to enjoy what ever time you can spend here.

-
Dee, if the girls like board games etc. I would love to play along. I used to love playing trouble, guess who, twister and battle ships, with my kids and I'm sure Chookie would have some games for her GC.
-
All looking good. Ral has maps which I will post out, as a backup to GPS.
As some are coming from interstate, breakfast 7 to 9
Morning tea. 10 to 11.30
Lunch. 1.00 to whenever
with the present numbers, looks like a Buffet serve yourself hot lunch. We can seat about 20.
Probably Roast turkey and Vegetarian Quiche, hot veggies. Is there anyone, vegetarian with no dairy .?
Any other dietary needs that I need to know about ?
Weather...... Probably cold outside, could be raining. 8 to 12 o. Warm inside. 20 o.
Anything , anyone needs to know, post here or PM me. Looking forward to meet so many new members and catching up with old ones. Should be a fun day.
-
Sounds wonderful chookie. I can't wait. What do you want me to bring?
-
It's going to be a busy day in your kitchen Chookie but with lots of helpers if we don't all get in your way ;) How exciting :-* :-* :-*
-
I wishhhhh.
Leaving for the US on 16th, just not possible >:(
-
Naturally I am green with envy. You will all have the most wonderful time. We'll need lots of photos.
-
Oh, come on Hally!!!! We are leaving for Turkey on the 16 th. Honestly, we will miss you and DH and CP.
Cookie, lots of photos coming up.
Kim, thanks for offer, just you would be wonderful.
Judy, most will be prepared beforehand. With so many excellent cooks on hand I am not a bit worried. If I make a disaster, someone will know what to do, or the chooks can have it.
-
Thanks chookie, but me just isn't enough! Still would love to bring something or pay for some ingredients.
-
After catching up with Judy, Trudy and KatieJ yesterday, I am very seriously thinking about coming too - if that is still OK with you Chookie! If I do, I will have to ask if one of the kind Victorian members would be able to give me a lift to Chookies with them :-* :-*
I will be in Sydney for work the day beforehand, so will either stay somewhere in Sydney and fly down Sun morning - or else fly to Melbourne and find a hotel somewhere that night, all ready to go in the morning.
Yay - so exciting!! I would love to meet so many of the familiar forum names and finally put faces to those names :D :D
-
Karen, you are more than welcome. Several who are coming may be able to pick you up at the airport. This is on the way to our place.
-
Karen, I'm happy to give you a lift. I'm in Heidelberg so happy to pick up from the airport or elsewhere. Once you have finalized your details just pm me and we can work out a meeting time and place.
-
Wonder that is very kind.
-
Thanks Wonder - that is very kind! :-* :-* I will get onto booking flights sometime this week when I can confirm what time I finish in Sydney on the Saturday.
And thank you Chookie for welcoming yet another interstater!
Yay! Count me in then too!!
-
I knew it wouldn't take long to organise a lift Karen, gosh this is going to be fun. Thanks Wonder.
-
It's great Karen that you can make it - Thankyou Michael and boys!!!
-
Gifts for them all Karen. :D :D
-
I was wondering if members would like to have a Lucky Dip on the Sunday. It would involve every one bringing a small gift, say 6 biscuits in a small bag, TMX made of course. Or if pressed for time and have to buy something, not over$10 . Feedback would be appreciated.
Also, if anyone would like some Sour Dough starter, please bring a sterile jar. Instructions are on the Forum.
-
Oh it sound like this is going to be a really great event, unfortunately I will not be attending as I am going to Cape York on holidays which will be wonderful too, but I do hope to meet up with all you lovely friends one day.
-
AB, thanks for letting us know. Have a great trip up north. I am sure we can catch up another time.
-
The lucky dip sounds good. I'm definitely in favour of that ... thinking cap on now!
-
Can do Chookie, will start looking around for ideas. :-* :-*
-
Will starting looking Bess!!
-
I am in chookie and already know what I am making for the lucky dip!
Would love some starter please (thought you would never ask) ;)
Am getting very excited :D

So am I, Kimmyh
-
I would love to be in the lucky dip Chookie. DH wants to be in it too. :D
I would love some sour dough starter please Chookie. If I sterilize the jar before I leave home, will it still be OK 3-4 days later if I don't open it?
-
Michele, starter should be fine in pre sterile bottle. Would love DH to also join in. You never know what he might get. ;D
-
Mich - have just sent you a pm . .
-
I'm in for the lucky dip Chookie.
-
I'm in but it will be bought ;D
-
Much as I would love some starter I won't take you up on your generous offer as, despite my best efforts (and those of my DH) and your advice, Bess, we have managed to kill 7 in the past year (including several based on the rye starter in Yoke's book "Wild Sourdough")!!! I have reconciled myself to yeast bread only - at least I have success with that.
-
Marina, when you do your test run, I could have a loaf ready for you to put in the oven. You can return the tin when you come on the Sunday to meet CC. Let me know what you think.
-
Count me in for the lucky dip too! How exciting!
If anyone going to the lunch would like some fresh lemon myrtle leaves, I could bring some over with me too ....
-
It all sounds so exciting. You will have so much fun.

WE intend to Cookie. Wish you were coming, then we would have the 3 moderators here.

Thank you - that is very generous and I will look forward to your loaf of bread. I will probably do the test run towards the middle of July - once we have battled through stock take and other EOFY chores! Be sure to let me know if you would like me to bring anything up - either on the test run weekend or on the get together Sunday. I go to Vic market every Saturday and picking up anything for you at the last minute would be no trouble at all.
-

If our trip is cancelled for any reason I will be there. Otherwise I will continue moderating when I have coverage. I think Birdsville does but not sure about places like Marree. I don't think they do.
-
Cookie, I have been to Marree for work once, and they had "patchy" coverage there with Telstra. Be a little careful of the hotel ........... lots of rats when I was there :o :o
-

Yes Cookie, don't think you should go there, No rats here. ;D ;D

If you get a small enough map, Melbourne is really a very short distance from Birdsville / Marree ... just a hop, skip and a jump for a seasoned traveller like you!

Yes , that is right. ;D
-
. . . . and using that microscopic map, Cookie, you could travel the distance in no time at all in your new motorhome!!
20 tons - max speed I believe is around 150 k/h ;D ;D The mind boggles to imagine the damage you could do to Chookie's front door if you arrived full speed ahead . . . ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Full steam ahead, you are likely to end up in the chook house. :D ;D
-
:D :D :D
I am sure your chooks would love their new hen house!

Happy to go in the lucky dip chookie, I'll bring stuff from my girls too. No idea what to bring yet, you people are just too organised!
-

Deedub, some small thing, it's just for fun.
Marina, I'm sure they would.
GF, love the cartoon.

Yes Cookie, don't think you should go there, No rats here. ;D ;D
I wouldn't be going there Cookie. Only chickens at Chookie's ;D
-
Wow, that is certainly luxury on wheels. Certainly not for the Birdsville and Streszlecki tracks. I'd have to be always cleaning.
DH will have a lovely chuckle about the small map. Look out Chookie's chook house!
Urk rats, I will be safely tucked up in my little bed on the back of the hilux. If I see any rats I will pull the ladder up!
Karen thanks for the phone info, I have telstra.
-
We have booked our flights for the weekend ;D Flying in early Friday and going home on the 8pm flight Sunday.
DH looking at accommodation today. I would like to stay right in the city.
-
Don't know if you know Melbourne, but try to book accommodation on one of the "Little" streets, i.e. Little Bourke, Little Collins, etc as the trams don't travel along those streets so it should be quieter.
-

DH looking at accommodation today. I would like to stay right in the city.
Michele, how exciting. ;D. We usually stay at the Clock Tower, these are apartments, in Carlton, when we stay in Melb. Don't know a lot about city hotels. We also checkout on Wotif for accom. In other places, and then ring the hotel direct. Should get the same or better deal.
You will be able to fill up with Afternoon tea or early Dinner before you leave Cherokee, if you like.
-
Mich we stay at the Swanston. I think it is called Mercure on Swanston. It's nice and not too expensive. Right in the middle of the city. They have a slightly cheaper part that used to be called The Welcome hotel. The rooms are small there but clean etc. that is in Little Bourke st.
-
Cookie, this is the main street in Maree. I think Chookies is a far more attractive option ;D ;D
-
It is tidier than I expected Karen. Certainly not a lot there. I think Chookie's would be much better, however this is on DH's bucket list so I had better go. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) I don't have a bucket list, possibly because I am fulfilling his. ;D
I will certainly be thinking of you all as I know it is going to be great fun. Chookie and her DH are the most gorgeous people.
-
Thanks for all the suggestions on accommodation everyone. :D We have booked an apartment in Queen Street, reasonably priced as we want to splash out on the hire car and go to Daylesford on Saturday. Anywhere else you would recommend for shopping?
We are looking at an Audi sportback to rent. ;D
-
Michele, sounds like you are planning to have a very good time. We stop in Dalesford often, as it is 1/2 way between Cherokee and Ballarat, where our daughter lives. Frangos' cafe on the corner has the best coffee and we often share a pizza from their wood fired clay oven. Good casual atmosphere. They don't try and push you out as soon as you have finished your meal.. $20 for Pizza, enough for 2 for a light meal. Lake House is very nice but very expensive. There is a new Japanese place, haven't been there but said to be good.
You can drive down to the Lake and have coffee at the 2 nd hand book shop.
Interesting cookware shop in Main Street. Lots and lots of gift shops. It is tidier than I expected Karen. Certainly not a lot there. I think Chookie's would be much better, however this is on DH's bucket list so I had better go. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) I don't have a bucket list, possibly because I am fulfilling his. ;D

Karen and Cookie, I think that a lot more OS happening in our neck of the woods.
Cookie thanks for the kind words, but just a reflection of the nice people we mix with.
-
It all sounds such fun. CC has promised to tell me all about it when she gets back.
-
DJ, I hope she doesn't tell you ALL . ;D
-
I am so sorry I looked at this thread. I so wanna be there too. BWAAAAAAA!
Green Green Gert
-
Just looking at flights. There are no flights from Cairns that would get me there on time so would have to come on the 10th .
My question is ............May I beg a lift to chookies and if yes then where would be a good place to meet or to stay that would make it as easy as possible to facilitate such a lift.
Also I would have to beg a lift back to the city where I can catch a taxi to the airport and be there by 7PM to catch the only direct flight home at 8 PM.
Just so wanna be there.
Of course that is if I am still invited chookie?
Gert
-
Gert
Don't despair, I might be able to do the city pick up and airport drop off - I will just have to go back through my pms to check times etc when I am picking up and dropping people off. Will get back to you as soon as I can.
-
Sorry Gert, I've just read through everything in my in-box and I am full both ways - I thought I had one seat spare but I had a senior moment (a very senior moment, I fear) and I can't help you. I am sure there are some others in town who would be able to offer their help.
-
Gert, I will PM you ..........
-
Gert, of course you are welcome. We are picking CCC up from tulla at lunch time on the 9 th. if this is any help. I have sent you a PM.
-

That is fine. I am just back from a lovely lunch and back on to the forum answering all the lovely messages. I will work something out. No worries.
Gert
-
Gert, DH and I are hiring a car and would be able to pick you up any time. Hoping Johnro is still coming too. Pick-up easy ;D
-
Great news Gretchen, it's hard to read this thread and not want to be there ;D
-
I am one lucky gal. Had several offers of a lift and to make things easy for everyone am arriving on the 10th to stay at the airport and being picked up by the wonderful Wonder . KarenH and I will travel up with her to chit chat along the way. Thank you all and especially chookie and DH making me so welcome at almost the last minute. Now to book the flights and find a bl**dy coat or longjohns or something!
Gert
-
Looking forward to finally meeting you Gert!!! Can't wait!!!
-
Awesome news Gert!
Looking forward to meeting you and having a wonderful day.
-
Seems like everyone is heading to chookies and not adelaide lol hrrmm
-
I'd give my right arm to be there . . . just impossible at this stage . . >:( :'(
-
Maybe not me after all as the flight I was thinking about is not now listed and I would have to be at the airport by 5 PM to catch any other and that may be too early. I do not want to break up the party.
I really can't stay two nights . Bugger! I can wait a while to see if any other flights pop up but seems no direct flights to Cairns and the curfew at Brisbane comes in to play. It is a pain sometimes living in the far north of nowhere.
Well check in July so hold my space!
Gert
-
Bugger. :D
-
Even worse cookie. I have checked all the airlines and would have to be at the airport by 4pm. Why is it so hard to go the Melbourne? I could stay another night I guess but DH does not do so well on his own these days. He says go but I will be going to Adelaide on the Thurs anyway. What to do??
Gert
-
Take him to Melbourne too, oh, maybe the dogs too. :'( :'( :'(
-
Gert, bring DH. Get a Vet nurse to look after the dogs. You CAN'T back out now. Boo Hoo
-
talking about dogs, ACW do u have any ?
-
talking about dogs, ACW do u have any ?
No Uni. Don't suit our life style. Have had in the past.
-
Double checked all flights all airlines and no way I can get to Melbourne for less than two nights and possibly putting people out so will have to say no at this stage. If things change then I will let you know as soon as possible. Thank you to all those who tried to help . You know who you are and I appreciate it. Will see some of you in Adelaide.
DH says just do it but it i hard to justify the expense and time away . As the suggestion of taking DH well he would love to meet you all and especially chookie and her DH . As to the dogs on is literally on last legs, all but blind and deaf as. He would be hard to leave and harder for someone else to look after as he is also incontinent at times . Last night I let Elvis out at 0130 and he could not find his way back to the house. I had to run around the back yard stark naked in the moonlight trying to find him. Not a pretty sight. I tell you it perked certain bits though as it was about 18 degrees. I eventually found poor ole Elvis trying to get into a glass wall. Poor puppy. He was probably attracted to that wall as my "ring"of death" security and bright LED night light for the Thermothingy was shining through.
Cheers to all.
Gert
-
Sorry to hear things have turned upside down Gretchen, it is never easy when you have to consider dogs and husbands. We hope something happens to change the situation but if not, we will raise our glasses to your effort to join us :-* :-*
Poor Elvis and lucky there were no prowlers around last night - boy they would have got the shock of their lives if they ran into you :D
-
Funny you should say that. My house backs on to a creek. There is a fence. There were some solar lights along the fence. We had a spate of solar light thievery. One night two rather dark skinned boys were seen by me climbing over my fence at about 0200. I leapt out of bed turned the bright spotlight on. This light Is aimed at the spot the two boys were in. As I ran through the door I scooped up the pooper scooper come toad wacker and gave chase. The boys scurried over the fence, lightless leaving their potato bag and flashlight behind. Win for me as it was new one with good batteries.
I suspect these two boys have never seen a fat white lady raging at them with a weapon in her hands.
I am sure I have told the story about picking up beer bottles by the pool and finding my male neighbour in my pool beer bottle in hand and both of us stark naked. Neither of us ever mentioned it.
Gert
-
Oh Gretchen, you are so funny with your naked antics. :D :D
-
Hilarious Gert :D :D :D :D :D :D
-
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ROFL

-
;D ;D ;D Oh Gert - that's so funny.
Hopefully things will change and you will be able to make it to Melbourne, if not you will have a great time in Adelaide. :)
-
I wish you were coming to Adelaide Michele as it would be lovely to meet you :)
-
I would love to meet you too M.F. :D And catch up with the others. I just have so much on in August.

At least you will end up meeting lots at Chookies. I would love to go there too but can't do both either..
Next year maybe :)
-
And we all get to meet CC at various different locations around the country :)
-

ROFL - the pictures I'm conjuring up of your night time antics!
Your worst nightmare?
Maybe I should start wearing pj's. They were a luxury when I was a kid. Too hot anyway.
Gert
-
jetstar have cheap flight $78 return ATM. where are u staying Mich ?
Not so cheap from here and it is further to Melbourne from Cairns than Perth. That is not my problem so much as the flight times not condusive to my needs.
Glued to the news at the moment.
Gert
-
OMG Gert. Poor boys, bet they don't come back. ;D
Uni, my DH Ral says to tell you that HE would like to meet you as you sound like a very nice person. Take your time in deciding. Nothing to be frightened of here, except Forum members.
-
Lol chookie
-
jetstar have cheap flight $78 return ATM. where are u staying Mich ?
We are staying at City Tempo Apartments Uni. Only $135 per night. They had rooms for less.
-
i just booked my filghts,i will be in melb on saturday ;D
ACW can i get to your place with public transport from the Parkview Hotel on St Kilda Road?
$139 p/n with B/F
-
Uni, delighted you can come. So is Ral. ;D Public transport no go to Cherokee.
is it possible someone who is coming can give you a lift ? Members have been amazingly generous in offers.
Easy to get to city or airport from from where you are staying. But we are in the country.
-
We can pick you up Uni - no problem but e are heading back to the airport for an 8pm flight on Sunday evening.
-
My car is free too, coming from Geelong :)
-
Uni i have space for another in my car both there and back. At the moment I'm picking up Karen and Gert (assuming she is able to get flights) from one of the hotels at the airport. Let me know if you need a lift and we can organise a pick up point.
-
Thank you all who have offered. I will do my best to spoil you all on the 11th. Talk to Uni. It looks like it will all depend on flights home. You are welcome to stay here until it is convenient to go to the airport.
-
Chookie, thankyou for everything you and Ral are doing. It is so generous of you both. Anything at all I can do or bring please let me know. What a fun day we are all in for. :D
-
I have not booked my accommodation yet ,Wonder do u know the name of the hotel that Karen is staying at
Mich, talk soon ;D
kimm is that on your way ?
-
Karen is staying at the Park Royal which is at the airport uni and very convenient as the city is further in the other direction from Chookies place . That is whyI was going to stay there to make it an easy pick up with Karen.
Velocity is offering a 15% discount at the Park Royal at the moment if you are A member.
I am not now able to come as the flights just don't work from far north Queensland. Wonder kindly offered to pick us both up there as it is not too far out of her way. If there is someone else to pick you up from the city that would work to pick you up from somewhere there. But you still have to hike it back to the airport. The taxi from the airport to the city is an added cost so you might just want to stay at the airport.
I posted previously a thank you for all who helped and when I was working on a plan but sadly no can do. You have all been very generous.
Gert
-
Wow, this thing is getting bigger than Ben Hur... hope you can fit us all in chookie!
I can also help out with rides for 1 or 2 (if you don't mind sharing back seat with kids) - I live close to the city so picking up from there would be no problem. If anyone needs a ride PM me as I'm not on the forum much at the moment.
-
With Gert not able to make it I have room for myself plus three others or four if we are short on spaces. I'm also happy to drop back into the city if needed as it's not that far on the freeway. I'm also easy on times as I've got DH doing the Sunday sport and pick up / drop offs so have the whole day free. it sounds like there will be a lot of cars coming and going so people can swap around a bit depending on when they are wanting to leave and here they are needing to be dropped off.
-
Turning an even darker green with envy!!! Uni, so glad you decided to go!! For heavens sake, everyone take lots of photos!!!! :)
-
We can seat 20 at one long table. There will be an assortment of chairs, but everyone will have a seat. We will probably do a shuffle after way through the meal so that everyone will get a chance to meet others. It will be a buffet ,probably roast Turkey with roast veggies etc, and quiche for vegetarians. I will do several sweets and cheese and biscuits. If this doesn't suit, please PM me. A reminder that we are having a lucky dip. so if everyone could bring a small gift of something home made or if bought , not more than $10.
Ral and I are very touched by the kindness members are showing in getting people here. I will post maps, once I know from where people are coming. GPS should work, but just in case.
-
A bit like a car rally Chookie but with us all being winners at the end ;D :-* :-*
-
Oh Chookie, it all sounds amazing. Whatever you do will be fine.
As we have an apartment DH will make his famous egg and bacon pie. It's really good. A bit nervous serving you eggs when you have your own chooks.
-
Michele , that sounds great. But if you are both too busy living it up don't worry.
Judy, really looking forward to seeing you again. Looks like good fun.
-
Sounds fantastic chookie. I am so happy to be coming, will happily sit on the floor :)
-
I still don't know if I'll make it but I promise to let you know one way or the other
-
Kimmyh, lol, no need to sit on floor unless this is what you like.
Thanks Chrissa, hope you can come.
-
All sounds fantastic Chookie.
-
I so wish I could come, just to much going on here ATM. Make sure you take lots of photos.
-

-
I definately cant make it.. Dont know if I already sid it or not.. Will hopefully catch cc in either adelaide or syd or both... Adelaide im still working out.. My big problem is the kids .. Cant just dump everything on dh.. He has enough on his plate..
Hope everyone has a great day.. Sounds like a good group of ppl will make it!
-
We all love Chookie and you will love Ral when you meet him too ;D
Kim, with children it's hard to be everywhere we want but let's hope you get to Adelaide later. Sydney is the easier one though so I hope that works out for you.
-
Yes syd will be fine as long as its not at school pick up time.. If i remember its lunch time.. Dd will probably be with me :)
Adelaide is still on the cards :)
-
Frozzie - is there a family at school that could pick up your DS from school just in case you can't get back from the city in time? - and then you pick him up from their place? - or does the school have an after-school care program?
-
They have an after school program .. Will have to sign him up for at least a day a week.. Maybe two..will have to check what day it is!! Dont know other families well enough here yet.. Have a friend but asked her once to watch dd and she almost went into meltdown .. Long story but Told myself never again..not relying on anyone makes life a whole lot easier but limits what you can do 😳
-
I agree with your last statement Kim.
Chookie and Ral are the most beautiful people. You feel as though you have known them for ever. You will all have the most wonderful time. Then you will have Adelaide too. All because of a machine. I think the purchase price is nothing compared to all the lovely friendships I have made.
-

That's true, Cookie. Chookie, Ral ... everyone else on the forum as well as our trusty TMXs ... we really are very lucky people to have grown and nurtured these relationships. I know, knowing you all has changed me - hopefully for the better! So, thank you everyone.
-
Frozzie, family comes first. Look after them for your own peace of mind. Everyone here knows this. There will always be another time. I look forward to meeting you in the future.
Thanks for all the kind words but we are only repaying the kindness and friendship that has been shown to us. ;D
-
Thanks chookie.. Sorry I cant make it.. Im sure we will meet one day.. Maybe one day im down visiting my brother.. Have a great time :)
-
Frozzie the Sydney one is on a Wednesday :)
-
Yes plan on coming to that yvette just have to sort ds school care but will have dd with me who is 4... If this bothers anyone I would understand...
-
Bring DD Kim. I certainly won't be bothered. Does she have the cake making app on her phone? One of the surgeons little ones has it and we have loads of fun making cakes on it while mum does her rounds.
I always opt to sit with the little one if I can - much more fun than Dr's rounds ;D
-
Lol mich.. She has cake making, cooking, makeup apps galore lol
Yes more fun than rounds im sure!!
-
I am sure noone will have a problem with you bringing dd Frozzie :)
-
Absolutely no problem with me.. :)
-
Ok thx girls xx
-
A very good Forum friend, who shall remain nameless, sent this/ these to help celebrate CC 's lunch at Cherokee. This friend would very much like to be here , but is unable to come. More loss to us. !!! We shall toast her at lunch time. Thank you very much, you are just too generous.
-

Lol I second that Judy. :D
A very generous gift indeed
-
OMG, I just swiped the picture and there were more bottles - woo hoo, we will be swinging from the chandeliers Chookie LOL.
-
Oohh!!!! Thankyou forum friend that is so generous of you. ;D
-
Thanks wonderful forum friend, such a generous gesture. Wish I wasn't driving now ;D
-
wow thanks :o
-
Wonder, I could drive your car back as far as the airport - I am not a big drinker ;) :D
-
On my!!! what a generous forum member. :-* :-* :-* This made me well up with tears to think how wonderful people can be.We are truly spoilt by friendship :-* :-*
-
That is such a lovely, thoughtful gift ... pity I'm driving! Ah well, I'm not a great drinker so those of you who I am taking to the airport can relax, unless I manage to get lost you will all arrive safely!
-
Aren't we just CC? It's been said many times, many ways - a forum so much more than just cooking. :)
-
What a lovely generous wonderful thing to do.
Sorry you can't make it to lunch, but you will be there in spirit xx
-
Oh my Buddha. Are you girls gunna have bubbles without me? BWAAAAAAA!
Gert
-
Considering the gift was given by a forum member, who badly wanted to be there and someone who loves bubbles.
I thought you were the generous one that sent the bottles to Chookies, Gert?
-
Yes Gretchen, it will be bubbles without you but your name will be on our lips as we toast you. :-* :-* :-*
-
Considering the gift was given by a forum member, who badly wanted to be there and someone who loves bubbles.
I thought you were the generous one that sent the bottles to Chookies, Gert?
Well I would like to be there and I do love bubbles but Cookie says the bottle are from anon. So I thank her or him.
Gert
-
Bit hard for you to be anonymous Gert :D
Thankyou so much for your generous gift. :)
-
What a lovely generous gift from a truly wonderful forum friend. Thank you so much. Now for the dilemma ......do I choose pink, yellow or red??? ;) :D
-
I'm choosing red Kim - my favourite colour ;D ;D
-
Following in your steps mich, I am choosing pink then ;D
-
The pink is rather nice. So nice of Gert. Are you hoping they all get tipsy and post lots of photos?
-
Well if we are going to put our names on bottles, I might try the yellow as I used to work with a chap who would only drink that particular bubbly so I'd like to taste it to see why he enjoyed it so much.
-
So, how many bottles can each of you drink, should you put your name on more than one? ;D ;D ;D
-
What has anon started - fighting over bubbly ;D
-
I think there will be plenty for every one. It will be help your selves and I' m not looking or countingThere will also be nice non alcoholic drinks for those who are driving or who don't drink alcohol.
-
Anon is a sweetie :-* what a lovely gesture.
-
Anon is a sweetie :-* what a lovely gesture.
Yes CP she sure is.

Uni, I can't pm from my work computer but the answer is a definite yes - more than happy to help.
-

-
Such a lovely lunch party this is going to be.
-
DJ, shame that you live such a long way away.
-
Sure is chookie, but I'll be with you all in spirit.......
-
I was just looking at the first thread to see who is going to Chookie's, is that list up to date Chookie? I thought there were more than that?
-
As far as I know it is up to date. .
I was just looking at the first thread to see who is going to Chookie's, is that list up to date Chookie? I thought there were more than that?
-
Judy, just. did a count, 18 firm, counting myself and Ral. Maybe Chrissa. 19 ? Can seat 20, so perfect. Great group of people.
-
I probably won't know until the weekend before as we recently purchased a country property that needs a lot of work and my weekends are booked up but I'm hoping I can schedule that weekend for the restumping to be done (because that means that I can't be at the house so I have to have the day off :D )
I'm so sorry I can be more definite but I'll let you know as soon as I can
-
Yes, you are right. Ral told me how many you were expecting the other day and it didn't add up Why? Because I forgot to add you 2 gorgeous people :-)) :D
-
Hope you will be able to make it Chrissa, would be lovely to met you. :D
-
I've got my fingers and everything else crossed too :D
-
Fingers crossed Chrissa, can't wait to meet all you lovely people.
-
Chrissa, we would love you to come, but will roll with whatever happens.
-
Met with the lovely Marina , yesterday. She is doing a dry run from Melb via the airport, to Cherokee. If anyone else is interested in doing same, PM me and we will make arrangements. Lunch, morning or afternoon tea OK.
-
Chookie's restaurant is open, morning, noon and night ;D
-
That's very generous of you Chookie, I'm hoping we find our way on the first visit. I figure if we take a few wrong turns it wil become a scenic drive for the interstaters ;D
-
I hope DH and I get it right as we only have one try? ;D
DH has an excellent sense of direction and is use to driving in Victoria and will have the Navman as back-up. ;D
-
Right Judy ;D. What would you all like for breakfast/ morning tea? you are all going to get up so early that I must have food that will keep you going. Thought I might have to have a spare bed ready for anyone who wants to have a Nanna nap. Mix of savoury and sweet. ?
I have been reading new book by that little French sweetie, Rachel Khoo, she has a couple of nice recipes that I will test first..
-
I will post maps but navigational devices should work.
-
I will post maps but navigational devices should work.
Thanks Chookie - DH much prefers a map to the Navman - doesn't like her voice. So I will study the map and be able to give DH directions in my best Navman voice ;D
-
We know about that voice. Especially when it tells us to turn around and go back. ;D
-
We know about that voice. Especially when it tells us to turn around and go back. ;D
"Please perform a U turn where possible"
I think I missed my calling ;D
-
I borrowed a sat nav last week and it was set with a GEORDIE voice, very funny. Told me I was a daft beggar, (but spelt differently!!!) when I went to fill up with fuel... LOL and on arrival said he was going for a kip!!!
-
Very funny DJ.
I use Tom Tom all the time and it's interesting to hear the different voices and proununciations. I'm always being told to turn around as well.
-
We always get the "do U turn when possible too" especially when we are interstate. I don't think we will need it for any cities this trip. Only things like "proceed along road ?? For 345 km" until you reach Birdsville.
-
At the round about, take the second exit.
-
At the round about, take the second exit.
😃😃😃
-
At the round about, take the second exit.
Now that one is so confusing - why don't they just say "go straight around/thru the roundabout"
-
At the round about, take the second exit.
That's my fav too!
-
Chookie us girls from Adelaide shouldn't be looking for breakfast, we can either buy something on the plane or pick something up at the airport whilst waiting for Marina. I never have morning tea at home but I'll probably be looking for a cuppa when I get to your place and I'm sure your bikkie tin will be full ;) I am not speaking for my travelling companions though, they may be looking for more. Don't forget we are coming for lunch though ;)
-
I have a feeling that there will be food everywhere. ;D ;D
-
I think we will all be spoilt for choice. :D

how true ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Hi All,
Seems I have missed a lot of converstation!
Chookie - would you like some non blubbly wine as well? Let me know as I still get my discount.
Lucky Dip - count me and the little poppet in please. We'll bring contributions along.
And I'd LOVE some lemon myrtle leaves and sour dough starter as well - thank you all.
PLEASE let me know if I can bring anything else? I can even pop in a few fold up chairs into the boot if needed.
This must have been playing on my mind over night as I dreamt that Judy arrived here and I'd completely forgotten that she was coming. I felt absolutely terrible. And oddly JD you had dyed your hair pink! :o :-*
-
Haha that would be a look :)
-
LOL ;D
Please don't Judy ;)
-
And I'd LOVE some lemon myrtle leaves and sour dough starter as well - thank you all.
Done ILB - I will bring some leaves with me. If anyone else wants fresh lemon myrtle leaves, let me know.
-
And oddly JD you had dyed your hair pink! :o :-*
. . . so that's what Judy's been doing at the hairdresser . .!! Secret's out now, Judy!! ;D ;D ;D
-
And I'd LOVE some lemon myrtle leaves and sour dough starter as well - thank you all.
Done ILB - I will bring some leaves with me. If anyone else wants fresh lemon myrtle leaves, let me know.
Thank you Karen :-*
-
Hi ILB :D :D No chance of pink hair I'm pleased to report. So looking forward to finally meeting you and Grace after all this time.
Karen are you allowed to take leaves into other states?
-
Karen are you allowed to take leaves into other states?
Well, I will find out soon wont I ;D ;D ;D
Good point though, because I am going from Adelaide to Sydney to Melbourne ..... give those sniffer beagles at the airport something to get excited about :D :D
-
ILB, great to hear from you. Judy and pink hair,? Would love to see that. ;D It will be really nice to meet so many people that we know only by name on the forum.
Some more chairs would not go a miss. So yes please.
I also know that Ral is partial to some of that BB wine, so if not too much trouble.
So looking forward to meeting Grace. I thought the little ones could run the lucky dip. With help of course.
Only a month off now and am starting to get ready. Bought balloons to tie to tree at the front gate, and extra napkins.
Will print off maps this week, so will be contacting members via PM for address.
More info soon. ;D
-
I would have sent napkins chookie. I am afraid that is my downfall. Can't help buying them. I had several hundred until recently whenI took a bunch to the Sallies. I then went and bought a lot of them back. Crazy I am for serviettes. I have some I bought at Ikea many years ago and they are white with lace trim . Just got rid of some tablecloths too. Bet you would have used them !
I currently have some yellow ones I am not so fond of so they may go. It is the one thing I look for in op shops. I have to hide them and rotate them from DH. I got lucky once and bought some lovely large blue ones some restaurant had disposed of. I kept them a year, used them an finally offloaded them to an friend with a big family. There must have been fifty. I missed them so found another six in the same colour at St Vinnies.. Love cloth serviettes. You will never find paper in this house except for Pizza nights. In front of the telly.
Gert
-
We have both types... Used cloth serviettes alot in France and loved the little pochette or range serviette breton to put your serviettes in.. Normally they are cotton or linen and white with different images on them.. There are also modern colourful ones but they need to all be different to be able to tell which one belongs to who..

I'm just so excited :D :D
-
Hi ILB :D :D No chance of pink hair I'm pleased to report. So looking forward to finally meeting you and Grace after all this time.
Like wise JD! ;D It's VERY exciting!
-
And I'd LOVE some lemon myrtle leaves and sour dough starter as well - thank you all.
Done ILB - I will bring some leaves with me. If anyone else wants fresh lemon myrtle leaves, let me know.
Could I have some too please Karen? That is if the beagles allow it :)
-
Kimmyh I would love to see photos of your boys ;D
-
Sure thing Kim ;D I have posted them interstate before and had no troubles, but if worst comes to the worst, I will just have to feed them to the beagles.
-
Kimmyh I would love to see photos of your boys ;D
Sure thing CC.
Thanks Karen.
It's getting exciting. Only 28 more sleeps :)
-
Counting down in sleeps - that is exciting.
If not too much trouble I would love some leaves too.
-
It is getting close. Even though I won't be there I can sense all the excitement. It is great.
-
Gert, like you I love cloth napkins, but for the lunch will be using paper ones. Too much washing too close to going away. I will make sure that I have the best cloth ones out when you come to stay. :D.
-
No you can't use cloth for that many so close to your holiday. I only get ones I don't have to iron. Well even if they had to be ironed I wouldn't. You could always add BYO serviettes to the invite. I am sure the girls are not fussed about the accoutrements and are looking forward to the company.
Gert
-
i can use my sleeve i am not fussy ;D
-
i can use my sleeve i am not fussy ;D
Uni, can't have you doing that. ;D
A couple of years ago, when in London, CC took me shopping. We had a great time. ;D
I bought these napkins. They are cotton, on a roll , and can be washed and reused.
Will try and post a photo. Q

Nice buy Chookie, how do you separate them - is it just a thread holding them on the roll?
-
How clever chookie.
Uni I can always use the tissue I have stuffed down my left tit . Usually I use it to blow my nose but sometimes I keep two there just in case there is no loo paper. Perfect pocket as I lost a lot of that breast when I had cancer. One of the benefits you get is a nice place to secrete bits and it fills out the bra nicely.
Have you plenty of loo paper chookie?
Gert

[/quote]How clever chookie.
Gert
Judy, just rip off along the dotted line.
Gert, I have one of those special places also. Very handy for tissues.
Ral insists on buying the biggest and softest toilet paper. No need to bring your own. ;D
-
There is no way I can keep up with everyone's crazy mad posts on this thread!
I just want to clarify a question re. the lucky dip ... is it just one gift each of us brings along or one gift for each person?
-
Love the serviettes Chookie.
Mum use to give us a roll of toilet paper to use as tissues when we were young and had colds. :-\
-
Marina, just one small gift.
Michele, have a friend who still does the same.
-
Judy, just. did a count, 18 firm, counting myself and Ral. Maybe Chrissa. 19 ? Can seat 20, so perfect. Great group of people.
is that 19 with the kids ?
-
I'm pretty sure Chookie has included the kids in that number Uni, see her list on the first posting of this thread.
-
uni, you only have to bring 1 small gift for the Lucky dip. If that is why you are asking.
-
I'm so excited about meeting everyone and catching with those I've met. So glad DH is coming too.
DH is excited that we will be driving the Audi sports - he hopes Ral wants to go for a spin. :D
-
Nice buy Chookie, how do you separate them - is it just a thread holding them on the roll?
No we just roll it out over our laps and sit still. If one person lifts it, we all lift it :D ;D 27 more sleeps.
-
We could try that Kimmy, chaos in Chookie's kitchen/dining room ;D
-

Poor DBF wanted to know what I was laughing out loud about..... where do I begin?

See what fun you have missed being so busy lately ILB. Like you new avatar too by the way. :-* :-* :-*

Ral says he would love a spin in the Audi. ;D

How exciting!!! I just read this thread and checked for flights - cheap!!! Is there anyone I could hitch a lift with to and from the airport. I would do a day trip and take the first flight over and the last flight back to Tassie (early morning,/evening flights). :)
-
Chelsea, I can't PM on the work computer but I still have room in the car both up and back. I'm already picking up Karen from one of the airport hotels so it would be no trouble to also pick you up. On the way back from memory Karen may be catching a lift with someone else and I'm taking Uni back into the city so plenty of room.
-
Chelsea, it would be wonderful if we had a representative from Tassie join us. There are 3 of us arriving early from Adelaide that day, we might bump into each other before we even get to Chookie's.
-
Chelsea, it would be wonderful if you could come. You would be more than welcome. ;D Wonder is very generous in her offer to pick you up, as is marina with her car full of Adelaide people.
I am starting to organize the MAPS.
Deedub, i gather you are on the North side of Melb. Would you be coming via the airport, (Lancefield Rd), or the Calder Highway and via Woodend.?
Kimmyh, which way are you coming? I think you are near Geelong. The quickest way for you is through Baccus Marsh, Gisborne and Woodend. Easier through Melb, but takes longer. Let me know.
Michele , which way are you coming.? That snappy car you have hired might like to stretch its legs on the Calder Freeway. Let me know so I can Post the correct Map.
Uni, can you let me know how you are getting here. Certainly don't want you to get lost.
Chrissa, will wait until I hear from you. Hope you can come.
Any mistakes , let me know. Thanks
-
Chookie, we are staying in the CBD. May pick up Uni? Chelsea when do you arrive? Can swing by the airport if necessary.

Chookie, I am coming from Geelong and I think I will go thru Bacchus marsh, etc. would like to avoid melb if possible.
Hope you can make it Chelsea. Would love to meet you.

Me too. :'(
-
Me three
-
Thanks so much for the offers of lifts to and from the airport. Do you have any idea what time you will be picking up Uni and Karen. I'm trying to figure out if I will need to catch the dawn flight or the next one. :)
-

Chelsea, when you have worked out flights, let me know. I am staying at the airport hotel overnight, so if you arrive early, I can meet you and you can come back to the hotel and have coffee/breakfast with me while we wait for Wonder. ;D ;D
-
Me three
Me four :(
-
Me sad to 😿😿😿
Gert
-
Sorry Chelsea can't remember what time I told Karen I would pick her up - maybe around 10? Karen are you able to let me know? I stupidly didn't keep a copy of the pm ???
-
Wonder and Chelsea - I don't think we arranged a definite time yet - we were going to leave it until closer to the day, and see what suited everyone.
-

Thanks Karen. That would be lovely. Am checking all the flights out today. The cheap ones are good but would need to leave home at 4.30am. Yikes! :o
-
Chelsea to get anywhere in a day from Cairns we have to get that 0530 flight. Thank goodness I am only 12 minutes from the airport.
Gert
-
Thanks Karen, I not feel so silly now.
Uni, did you need a lift up or only back? Plenty f room and not a problem if you need both ways.
-
Had dinner tonight with some very good friends, also TMX owners. They have offered to come on the 11th and to help so that Ral and I can spend some more time socializing .Although they are not Forum members, i have accepted their kind offer as it means we all can have more time to chat. hope this is OK with everyone.
-
Perfect chookie. We have butler's :D
-
How lovely.
-
Chookie that is so nice of them. They will have a lovely time too.
-
This forum just shows how many kind and thoughtful people there are.
Lovely
-
They might want to join the forum once they've met us all Chookie. Nice offer - very thoughtful of them.
-
It will be lovely to meet other TM enthusiasts Chookie ;D
-
How kind of them. :D
-
Wonder I havent booked my accommodation yet , which area would be easier for you
Anyone know how far the airport s are from each other and how much a taxi would cost from Tullamarine to Avalon
is there a bus between airports?
Karen you are staying at a hotel near Avalon airport is that right ?
what lovely and kind friends you have ACW
-
Uni, most people will probably be flying in to Tullamarine which is our main airport and is also a little closer to the city and the road/s to Chookies. There is a move to utilise Avalon more and there are buses to Avalon to and from the city but I don't know if there are any from Avalon to Tullamarine. A taxi from Tullamarine to Melbourne's CBD is approx. $55.00 and, taking a guess at distances involved, I think it would possibly be that or perhaps more to Avalon. If you google Avalon airport you may find more information there.
Hope that helps.
Chookie, you have very kind and thoughtful friends.
-
thanks Marina :-*
-
I just checked my flight I am landing in Avalon :(
-
That's not so bad, Uni, I think there is someone from Geelong heading up to Chookies, perhaps they will read this post and be able to pick you up as Avalon is on the way from Geelong.
-
Uni, we will pick you up - no problems.
It's Kimmy that is coming from Geelong.
-
Chookie is posting us 2 maps of different routes to take. DH is a truckie and has excellent sense of direction, unlike me.
Cooee if you need lift. ;D
-
Thanks for the offer Mich but I cant ask that from you and Don :-* :-* :-*
I am thinking of changing my flight it will be easier if I land at Tullamarine and I will book at the same hotel that Karen and Chelsea are staying
-
Thanks for the offer Mich but I cant ask that from you and Don :-* :-* :-*
I am thinking of changing my flight it will be easier if I land at Tullamarine and I will book at the same hotel that Karen and Chelsea are staying
Uni, I think this is wise as Kimmyh is coming over land and not through Melbourne.
-

We are going to Chookies - not a problem to pick you up Uni - we would love the company. :D
-
Sorry Uni, Avalon is a bit far out of my way! If you decide to still stay in the city, I'm on the North side but it really wouldn't matter that much which part of the city you stay in as the Tullamarine freeway takes us pretty much into the city centre.
-
Just read this, sorry busy day/night. I am coming from Geelong and Avalon is closeby. I can pick you up if you still need a lift uni :)
-
thanks kimmyh i will not need a lft ,i have changed my flight to land at Tullamarine
i am booked at the mantra which is only 4 mins away from the airport
wonder is it still ok if you can pick me up and drop off ?
-
Have closed the books on numbers now. If everyone comes , that will be 22. Chrissa and Chelsea, still on list as maybe.
Deedub, what Ice Cream do the girls like best. ?
ILB, what Ice Cream does Grace like?
-
Oops.... just catching up.
Chookie - Grace loves any icecream really. Vanilla, chocolate, hazelnut, berries, milo, mango, strawberry (but she'll turn up her nose if she thinks it's been made with "beetle blood" ;) ) - you make what ever you feel like and she'll be just fine. Thank you.
-
See what fun you have missed being so busy lately ILB.
I do miss the forum a lot JD! Just not enough hours in the day when I work FT, study, also going through a life coaching session, mum, partner and who knows what else! ??? ??? ??? And I'm WAYYYY behind in emailing you JD! :o
Think I need a holiday! :-X
Like you new avatar too by the way. :-* :-* :-*
Thank you :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Grace must be growing up now ILB. How old is she now?
-
I fully understand your position ILB, I'm kept busy too but I don't have all those things you have in your life! We'll catch up at Chookie's soon xx
-
Uni no problem to pick you up. I'll PM time etc closer to the date.
-
thanks Wonder :-*
-
Received the maps yesterday Chookie - Thankyou very much. :D

-
wow ,what a great idea. we have some smart ppl on this forum
-
napkin rings?
-
I think they are to put around your wine glass so it doesn't get confused with someone else's glass
-
They are gorgeous. What a clever and thoughtful person. :D
-
Yes, very thoughtful and generous person. .for wine glasses . Uni, I think you know exactly what they are. ;D
Yesterday, I put 60 glasses through the dish washer, so these were very well timed. I was wondering how many I would need.
Many, many thanks to this kind person.
-
Love them and I know who sent them, she is always thinking - with us moving around Chookie, these will be so handy. Well done you know who :-* :-* :-*
-
What a lovely gift. Thanks to whomever took the time to make these up and send them - they will be a tangible reminder to take home of a wonderful day. I wish I had half your talent at craftwork.
-
Very crafty. Just right.
Gert
-
They are gorgeous! Very special!!! :D
-
I am pretty sure I know who made them too ;D ;D Well done, what a great idea, and what a thoughtful and kind gift!
If you want a clue - look back over the secret santa thread at how one of the SS gifts was wrapped ;) ;)
-
If you're thinking it was me Karen, then you're wrong!
100% it wasn't me.
Would love to claim credit though, as they are so cute and such a thoughtful thing to do.
Thank you whoever did send them ;D
(Maybe I'll need to steal the idea though, as I still have around a 1,000 beads left over from last Xmas)
-
No it isn't Katie, I can vouch she is telling the truth. Glad it's given you an idea on how to use up the rest of your beads Katie.
-
Oh dear - I was so sure it was Katie! She wrapped her Christmas presents so beautifully using those same beads :P :P Many apologies to whoever it was then :-[ :-[ :-[
-
I haven't got a clue who it is ??? A very big THANKYOU to the generous, thoughtful person.

Gert
-
What a fantastic gift! I got my map, thanks chookie - my girls will eat any type of icecream, just asked them what their favourite is, one said choc chip the other strawberry, but anything you have will be eaten, don't worry!
Getting close now, have to think about my lucky dip items!

-
They are gorgeous. What a lovely thoughtful gift. Thank you mystery forum friend. Sending you hugs and kisses.
Got my map too chookie. Thank you.
-
What a lovely thing to do. We really have a lovely generous group of people
-
I did my 'dummy' run up to Cherokee on Satuday using Bess and Ral's map and managed not to get lost - which is pretty amazing for me! For those of you using the map, just be warned that there are approx. three smaller, minor roundabouts on the road to Sunbury before you get to the big one that you turn off to get to Cherokee. Other than that, have faith in the map ... if it got me there safely it will get everyone there safely!
Those of you going up are in for a tremendous treat. Bess and Ral are the loveliest people - but most of you know that as you have met them already. They are generous hosts (as I know - I came away with a big bag of goodies) and their home is stunning. Ral is a mean coffee maker, too. I don't drink coffee, but after seeing the lovely cup he made for himself and Bess I was almost wishing I was a coffee drinker!
Bess and Ral, thanks for everything on Saturday - I found my way back to the road north easily. I am coddling the starter and hope not to kill this one. I baked the loaf of bread you gave me and will get stuck in to that today. See you soon.
-
It sounded like a great day Marina and it was a great idea to do a dummy run. I can just imagine the goodies you came away with, whenever Chookie has been to my place she has come laden with produce and gifts. Ral will, I'm sure, be kept busy making coffees for everyone at this eagerly awaited lunch.
-
Only 13 more sleeps :D
-
The map that Marina followed, was printed by Ral. However his printed had a hissy fit and I had to print the maps that I sent out. Mine were more basic , but should do the job.
-
Can't wait!! Looking forward to meeting up with you!!!
-
Just build a fire outside and send smoke signals.
Gert
-
Just build a fire outside and send smoke signals.
Gert
Will do, and also tie some balloons to tree at driveway.
-
Am sad, sad, sad, because I just don't think I can come. I've been really struggling to make up my mind. I REALLY want to come but just don't think I'm up to the trip. It would be my third trip to the mainland in six weeks and I still find travelling exhausting after my illness last year. I will be thinking of you all and really wishing I was with you. If ever there is a forum event in the school hols I will have to come along. xox
-
Such a shame Chelsea but we understand. Next time.
-
I'm sorry Chelsea but understand. Perhaps next time you will feel more up to making the journey.
-
Chelsea, thanks for letting us know. These decisions are very hard. There will be another time. Look forward to meeting you then.
-
Our thoughts will be with them Chelsea. Bad luck this time.
-
What a pity Chelsea, don't stress anymore though as one day I'm sure your time will come. These get togethers are sure to keep on keeping on.
-
Our thoughts will be with them Chelsea. Bad luck this time.
Our thoughts will be with you Cookie. That is a great trip you are doing. ;D
-
Very true Chookie. It is just bad luck they have all come together. Although I wouldn't like Birdsville etc in summer.
-
Your going to be doing a great trip Cookie, but we will all be thinking about you and wishing you were with us!!!
-
Sorry you cant make it Chelsea. I was looking forward to meeting you!
-
Guess what arrived today? From our mysterious benefactor. Any ideas ?
-
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/30/yqa9ybaj.jpg)
Some for the girls also. How pretty are these!
-
So very thoughtful of the person to include everyone who's coming to the lunch. We are so lucky to know this very kind person :-* :-*
-
They are gorgeous - a very special thank you to our crafty forum friend.
-
She's still at it - bless her cotton socks. They are just gorgeous, I love frangipanis.
-
This special person is very clever. They all look wonderful. Thankyou!!
-
The secret lady is a very clever person.
-
What a lovely gesture.
Chelsea, such a shame you can't make it but I'm sure there will be others.
-
They are just beautiful. Thankyou to our mystery friend. :-*
-
Sorry you cant make it Chelsea. I was looking forward to meeting you!
Yes me too Karen. It would have been wonderful to meet you all. Next time! :)
-
The forum has been down tonight so Denise has asked me to let everyone know that her and her SIL have arrived safely after a great flight. They even managed a decent sleep during the flight. She wishes to thank everyone for the lovely flowers which awaited them on their arrival.
Thanks CC, lovely to hear all is well - let the meet and greets begin!
-
I have been trying to post so e pics on Tapatalk.
I have to leave soon so at the airport
-
Gert, we have been travelling with you since 4 am . Safe trip home. ;D
-
Safe travels Gert, post when you get home
-
I tried to post on This thread earlier in the week but it was locked. I won't be able to make the lunch this weekend
The work on our country property has been delayed due to the bad weather and we are well behind schedule and whilst i would love to, i can't really leave DH there working his butt off while I'm out lunching with my favourite forum buddies.
I'm so upset that I won't meet you all. I'll be there in spirit and I'm sure ill be sulking all day 😿
Hope you have a great time
-
Chrissa thanks for letting us know. We will miss you. There may be another time when things work out better.
-
Rotten luck Chrissa. I am excited as it is getting closer. I can't wait to see the photos. Sadly I may have to wait though as tomorrow is possibly my last day with 3G for a while.
-
maybe next time Chrissa :(
anyone up for an early dinner in the city on saturday night ?
i was going to try and get in at the press club (George Calombaris ) the web page is saying it will reopen late 2013
-
anyone up for an early dinner in the city on saturday night ?
That sounds like a good idea, Uni. If I can make it (and I'll try my best) I would prefer "cheap and cheerful" because I'll probably stay on at work all day, but I should imagine you would love to go to somewhere like the Press Club, and I can't blame you for that, I would love to get there sometime myself - I'll keep an eye on this thread and see how it goes; whatever everyone else decides, if I can make it, I will try my best.
Although Macedon has it's own micro-climate and may be different, the long range weather forecast for the next week is rain everyday ... except Sunday! Perfect!!
-
Fingers crossed Marina, we're in for some rain too and I hope that comes and goes before CC and I get back from Chookies.
-
Notes for Sunday.
THe Adelaide contingent will probably arrive at Cherokee between 9.30 and 10 am. Capably escorted by Marina. Breakfast/ morning tea will be available from then on. Anyone else who wishes to arrive from this time on, most welcome.
Lunch will start about 12.30. Lucky dip between main and sweets.
Drive carefully on the country roads as they are wet and there may be wombats and kangaroos.
I will attach balloons to tree at start of drive.
Please remember a small gift for the lucky dip.
If anyone gets lost, phone reception, once on the side of Mt. Macedon, is patchy.
When you arrive, come up the drive, past the front of house , and around the back. Plenty of parking. To leave, you just keep driving forward.
Any questions???
Looking forward to Sunday and our house guests.
OOPS, forgot, don't forget to bring a jar for some SD starter.
-
Only one question - are you sure you want to do this Chookie :D
Can't wait for all the hugging that is going to happen in Cherokee, not to mention the great food, lively chatter and meeting people for the first time. Roll on Sunday. :-* :-*
-
Can't wait for Sunday to come as looking forward to meeting everyone.
-
Judy, too late to pull out now. Not at all worried with so many good cooks coming. If I have lots of OOPS moments, I'm sure someone will help.
-
Roll on Sunday too.
Chookie, I am hoping to leave home at 9am and allowing a comfortable 2hrs. All going well will be ambling down your driveway at 11am. If not there by 12 send out the Boy Scouts (but only good looking ones ;))
-
Kim, looking forward to meeting you. I'll send Ral and Don out to rescue you. Come earlier if you wish. ;D
-
14 hours and we will be in the air. ;D Very excited to be meeting you all and catching up with those I've met before.
-
Very exciting Mich, hope you and DH have a great trip.
When I left work today the other girls in the office said have a great time in Melbourne on Sunday. They can't quite get their heads around me flying interstate for a day, to have lunch with a group of friends most of which I've never met. You have to be part of this forum to understand it I guess!
-
Can't wait for Sunday. I'm thinking of leaving home at about 9 so by the time I pick up my new friends I think the total time will be around 2 hours so should arrive around 11. Hopefully I won't get lost.
-
WHOOPPEE. I am becoming even greener with envy. It all sounds so very exciting. I know you will have the very best time.
-
Wonder, I am sure you will be OK. However I have the 'boys' ready to collect any strays.
Katie, not so strange, I know of a group of cooks who flew to Hobart for the day, to do a cooking class. They also had to hire a car and drive for 45 mins.
-
Haha - Yes we have our own boy (maybe more mature) scouts to pick you up in style if anyone should become lost.
-
Have a wonderful time ladies and don't forget the pics :)
-
Yes dont forget the pics and have a great time :)
-
I'm leavin on a jet plane - lala la lala lala
-
Wishing you all a lovley time, be with you in spirit.
We have no idea if broadband will ever be connected by our phone company..... They don't seem to know either.
May have to go wireless, watch this space. Can Only pop on briefly so not to use up DH tether allowance.
Have a great time, will be thinking of you all travelling, hugging and chatting and of chookie and her DH for all the effort. Well done.
Enjoy everyone xxxxx
-
Morning all. Must get up. We are off to Melb , then to pick up CC at the airport. Will go somewhere interesting for lunch. Then home to cook sweets for Sunday.
Michele, safe trip. See if you can manage a trip to Queen Vic Market. It is near where you are staying.
DJ, we will catch up one day. Thanks for the good wishes.
-
You've got a busy couple of days in front of you, Chookie. Very exciting to actually be picking up CC at last. I'm looking forward to Sunday.
-
Hope CC doesn't get put off by our horrible weather today chookie! We might be a little late on Sunday, girls have swimming lessons until 10. Should definitely be there by 12.30 assuming we don't get lost!

We should leave here at about 8am so hopefully at Ral & Bess's by 11-11:30. Mr B will be staying home and won't be visiting is brother, so s chicks will be winging it by ourselves 8)
Is there ANYTHING else that I can bring over?
Looking forward to seeing everyone!

ILB, great to hear from you. Other children, 2 girls, 6 and 8.
Would be good if you can fit in a couple of chairs.
Drive safely, looking forward to catching up. ;D
-
Oh Chookie, I also meant to ask if you have any flooding over there?
We have some moderate flooding over in the East with more expected over the next two weeks. Should be fine to get across, may just have a couple of detours here and there as a worse case scenario. - fingers crossed!
-
Chairs - tick

It was lovely to meet everyone and it was as if we had known each other for ages. The lucky dip was great fun - Bess was ably assisted by ILB's daughter and Deedub's two daughter's as well. There are loads of photos as well, but I couldn't see them because I was driving. You are all going to have a memorable weekend in Adelaide - I heard all about it on the drive to the airport.

There was a dessert trolley - mmmm. Gert, the wine was great, even DH had a glass and a big THANKYOU to Mandi and Bruce for all they did.
To the very generous Ral and Chookie - what wonderful folk to invite us into your beautiful home. It was a real treat to meet you all. ;D ;D
-
Good morning everyone, in the light of a new day and after 9 hours sleep, I'd like to say how wonderful it was to meet everyone yesterday. Such a great group of people, excellent hospitality from dear Chookie & Ral, lovely food served with no fuss at all and top helpers Bruce and Mandy who worked silently in the background making sure we were nibbling and drinking until the main meal was served.
CC is an absolute delight and knows her way around Chookie's kitchen so well you'd swear she lives here! Sorry you all had to wait so impatiently for photos yesterday, especially you Gert LOL but you got them in the end.
This house is magnificent - the passage to the visitor's wing is so long you'd swear you're in a hotel. I'm sitting up in bed watching the sun rise in my lovely warm room. Last night Ral took us out with a torch to see a wombat scurrying down the back part of the property.
Thank you to the lovely Marina for meeting Katie, Trudy and me at the airport for the lovely drive up here. No-one got lost, maybe a wrong turn here and there but everyone turned up, the 3 children had a great time helping Chookie with the lucky dip and then loved exploring the yard - we hardly saw them after lunch.
If I had to rate this 'hotel' and service here it would have to be 10/10. Yes I would certainly come again. Xxxxx to everyone.
-
sounds like a great weekend, thanks for the photos. :)
-
Morning Judy, enjoy the rest of your visit.
I agree, Chookie & Ral are marvellous hosts. What great friends they have in Bruce & Mandy, wonderful effort that was appreciated by all.
-
Sounds like a great weekend all round.. Enjoy the rest of your stay jd xx
-
Glad everything went to plan. What wonderful hosts chookie and ral are? It looked liked our family christmas when we have 21 seated and join the tables.
Judy enjoy your rest,so verybpleased you are there. No rest for you in Adelaide,im thinking!
-
Good morning Judy,
Hope the sun is still shining for your day in Dalesford. We had such a lovely day yesterday such great food and company. A huge thankyou to Bess & Ral, Bruce & Mandy & Marina for making it all happen. Judy tell Bess that I have just sent her a PM with the details of that book please. Enjoy the rest of your stay and see you in Adelaide!!
-
Two very happy boys here when they got their gorgeous biscuits, kindly made by the very clever KimmyH. Thank you!

-
Great photo Karen. My DD took her biscuit to school with her today but DS was a little worried about the pink flower design being right at an all boys school with 1100 teenage boys!! ;D he's looking forward to eating it when he gets home this afternoon.
I hope the weather in Daylesford is better than Melbourne today, it's raining, blowing a gale and freezing cold today. Would be a perfect day to sit beside Bess and Ral's fire with some of the left over bubbly and enjoy the view.
-
I agree with you Wonder - I could sit in front of their fire and drunk bubbly and look at the view for several days ;D ;D
But dont worry - nicer weather is on its way - cool but sunny day here today - nice enough to hang the washing outside - this weather will be there for you soon!
-
Gorgeous little boys Karen :D
Hope they enjoy their biscuits.....yum
-
Those biscuits were an instant hit - they came in a flower pot type arrangement and were truly eye-catching. Kimmyh is a very talented lady - you should have seen her contribution to the lucky dip as well. It was one of the cookie mixtures pre-measured in layers in a jar with the instructions to just add ..... (whatever) ..... and bake. It looked great and I was disappointed that my number didn't come up for that one!
-
Gorgeous boys, Karen. Kimmy the biscuits are very pretty.
Wonder/Nadine, I couldn't help laughing with your DS' reason for not bringing it to school. My all-boy troop would say the same thing ;D
-
Kimmy certainly is talented. A lovely display of "flowers".
I'm sure all the kids loved them.
Chookies scones were also delicious!

-
Yes Uni, would love to see your photos!
Good trip back, bella?
-
We set off for Daylesford this morning on a guided tour of the area with the very knowledgeable Ral & Chookie. It was very cold and wet but the rain eventually left us and the sun came out. Did one side of the shopping area after having a coffee then had lunch in the Wombat Gardens. Came home via Malmsbury, stopping at Glenlyon General Store for afternoon tea. Ral then took CC and me on a tour of their 25 acre property in the Polaris, a hair-raising experience for me, a city slicker! It was bitterly cold out today so you can imagine how nice it is in the lounge room with a wood fire burning.
-
Yes Uni, would love to see your photos!
Good trip back, bella?
no its was **** :-))
-
More joys of traveling uni. Ya should have got a bus to town for some turbo shopping. Hope you had your knitting with ya.
Judy NOT THE POLARIS!! Yikes that would have been thrilling. Don't tell CC's DH!
Gert

Glad the sun came out for you Judy!!! Forgot to tell you that as we were driving out of the property yesterday we stopped as an echidna walked by!!!! Hope you get to see one Denise. Have a good flight tomorrow.
-
Uni I can't wait to see all your photos.

Thanks for the cookie comments girls. Glad the children enjoyed them, young and older.
Sounds like a great day Judy. Chookie and Ral really are the hosts with the most :)
Looking forward to your photos uni.

-
Great photo.....definitely super models :)
-
We have just dropped the girls off at the airport, to catch their flight to Adelaide. Ral and I have certainly enjoyed Denise and Judy's company. Wish it could have been longer.
I would like to thank each guest individually but will not have time before we leave on Friday. What I would like to say that as a group, each person who attend on Sunday, was truly unique and possesses talents and gifts which they willing share with other members of the forum. I think that this is what makes this Forum so special. CC was a good excuse to get together for many who could not go to Adelaide or Sydney.
Ral and I know that Adelaide will be very special for CC, as was Sydney lunch. Have a great time, we will be thinking of you all living it up and meeting each other.
-
What a wonderful photo of Judy and Denise,
Have a fantastic holiday Chookie and Ral,hope you get upgraded. If it is true what goes around comes around it will be!
-
Lovely one of you Uni with Denise also x
-
I do hope you all understand, I have read and looked at the photos of all except the last 3 pages and I am nearly crying. It looks so much fun. Chookie and Ral you obviously made it so special for everyone.
I am having the most wonderful time and of course could not make it, but I so wish I could have.
Thank you for the photos, I recognised or guessed everyone except Wonder.
I will read the other 3 pages later on. I thought of you all and knew you would be having fun. :-* :-*
-
Cookie, we have been thinking of you also, and all absent friends. We know you would be having a great time and we would like to be with you also. Can't do everything. ;D
Cookie, we just provided the venue, it was the people who made it fun. Such a great bunch of people and so generous. True Forum spirit. Much the same spirit as Grace Town. I think CC thinks we live like this all the time. !!!!!!! It was also great having Judy here as everyone knows her. It was obvious that everyone appreciates the work you 3 moderators do.
You and Horace continue to have a wonderful and safe holiday.
-
Have a wonderful holiday Chookie and Ral!
Hope all the upgrades fall your way while you travel. xx
-
