Chit Chat / Re: What is for Breakfast
« on: September 23, 2012, 04:39:58 pm »
I mainly have yogurt with mixed seeds and nuts with a handful of berries, or scrambled eggs with mushrooms or whatever, or bacon with mushrooms or tomatoes, or fried halloumi with tomatoes and mushrooms

When it's really cold I love porridge, but I haven't been very adventurous with it.  I've eaten it with compote a couple of times after reading the idea somewhere (probably this forum  ;D ) and liked that.  I thought this winter I'd mill some almonds first then reduce the amount of oats to make it lower carb and see how that works out.

Does anyone have any other low carb breakfasts to share?

Hmmm.

I don't have it as I know I don't have the time or energy to fiddle around in the kitchen in my current season of life (previously I'd have loved spending an hour or 2 'creating'), and I DID buy Tenina's book.  While I think it's a great book, there are a number of key ingredients that I can't get here in the UK, so I semi regret buying it and wish I'd got Alyce's instead (although I'm holding out for the e-book of hers).

That's really what my customer is trying to avoid - the ingredients which can't easily (or at all) be found in the UK.  On the other hand, she's happy to spend an hour or 2 in the kitchen on a Saturday whipping up something really special.  In light of that, is this her book or is there a different one you would recommend?

Chit Chat / In The Mix
« on: September 23, 2012, 02:07:27 pm »
One of my customers is thinking of buying the In The Mix book, but wanted to know whether all the ingredients were accessible in the UK, or whether they would be Australia only things (I guess like Crio Bru).  As I  don't have the book I wasn't sure, so I thought I'd ask you lovely ladies and gents as you're bound to know  :-*

She's wanting to make Saturday night meals which are special - is this the right book for her?

Just had some quail eggs which I wanted to hard boil, but had no idea how long they'd need.  I thought, I'm sure my Forum Friends won't let me down, someone will have posted about this - and you had  :) :-* :-*  Thank you.

Thanks Amy :-). Sounds like I'll use the dairy free soya 'butter' that I usually use for DD2 so that's easy!

Thanks for the recipe, I'm looking forward to trying it

I like the look of this Amy. What is nuttelex please?  I'm trying to work out what I'd substitute for it.

Recipe Requests / Re: Frothing Milk
« on: May 22, 2012, 08:33:14 am »
This is how I froth milk in the TM for our Lattes. It took me a while to find how to do it right.  Tip: skimmed or semi skimmed milk froths better than full fat milk.

Use 100g milk per person

Heat to 80 o (time varies on how many people you're making it for.

Once at temperature blitz at speed 7 for 20-40 secs

To be honest, I just tend to put it on for 6 mins at speed 7 and figure that per 80o it just won't do anything but it won't hurt.  That way I can get on with other things without checking to see whether it's at 80 yet.  I'm generally doing 200g milk.

Chit Chat / Splenda
« on: May 20, 2012, 08:58:03 am »
Hi everyone,
I'm on a low carb diet which is working very well both to lose weight and to control my blood sugar which had become a bit all over the place (I'm not diabetic but my body was increasingly thinking of going that way and the Dr had an eye on it).  It avoids low fat and artificial things which is good for me, but it does allow/use Splenda.  I've always just used small amounts of raw natural sweeteners, and Splenda is a new and unknown quantity to me.  What are your opinions of it?  I'm trying to decide whether to go ahead and use it or not.

I was just talking to DH about this. He strongly suggests that a couple of consultants/ people who have been spoken to directly regarding not 'liking', referring to, linking to, etc, should get together and send a lawyers letter to Aus HQ regarding the illegality of preventing free speech and using intimidation.  He suggests that a copy of the letter be sent to Vorwerk in Germany who would surely want to know about this.

Rules and Instructions Of Use / Re: Tagging Favourite Recipes
« on: May 02, 2012, 08:53:24 pm »
I requested this function a couple of years ago. It wasn't possible then, don't know if anything's changed?  I was given the tip to email or clip to Evernote, which is what I now do.  And once we try it if it scores at least 4 out of 5 with the family it's entered into my mac gourmet program (another recommendation from someone on this forum :-). )

I remember reading a recipe for cooking fish In a dishwasher and wondering why exactly I would waste so much water and electricity doing it that way.  Hmmm, perhaps that just meant I was turning into a grump in my old age ;-)

I loved the idea of washing loads of potatoes in the dishwasher, though. Someone posted about that on this forum - who was that?  I can't remember.
