I would really like to try this...... I don't see how it's possible though, without buying the cheap and nasty versions of some things (bread, milk, etc...)

I should be able to keep the bill down, as it's just me and my three young ones (aged 4, 6, 8), but I spend almost $200 per week :(

I will read through the middle of this thread for some tips.

Does anyone find that shopping online helps?

Recipe Requests / Re: Carrot muffin recipe?
« on: August 16, 2012, 02:08:23 pm »
There are lots of Carrot Cake recipes here on the forum.Just be sure you are on the Home Page when you type in Carrot Cake in the Search Box ;)

Ah - I feel silly now! I didn't realise that... but I was very suprised when not much came up in the search - I must have been in the raw food forum!

Thanks so much for both replies, now I can search the forum properly and I'm sure I will have lots to choose from!

Recipe Requests / Carrot muffin recipe?
« on: August 15, 2012, 03:55:04 pm »
I am after a carrot muffin recipe (like carrot cake) with visible carrot in the muffin... if that is possible in a TMX - I have seen muffins before with shredded carrot.

I have tried a search on the forum but came up only with a raw carrot cake which is more complicated than I'd like.

Thanks if anyone can help!

Suggestions and Complaints / Re: Scales don't function properly
« on: August 15, 2012, 03:40:38 pm »
This is happening to me too. I had suspected for a while that the scales weren't particularly accurate, and then one day when my daughter leaned on the table, I saw the scale reading change.

I have figured out that it is a combination of a table that does move slightly when weight is placed on it (heavy bag of flour, or someone leaning on it) and also I think even the floorboards.

Pretty annoying, as I'm not keen to have to use separate scales, and to move the TMX to the actual kitchen bench (rather than the table) would place it in a very inconvenient spot :(

Tips and Tricks / Re: Best way to make sauce thicker (pie)

Thanks for the replies!

I will try more cornflour (wasn't sure if it would be too much!) and also leaving the MC off. Duh - cant believe I didn't think of that. Cooking on a stovetop, leaving lid off would be once first thing to try - everything just feels a bit alien in the TMX!

Tips and Tricks / Best way to make sauce thicker (pie)
« on: August 15, 2012, 01:18:59 pm »
Hello,

I am not only a TMX novice but also a cooking novice! So I apologise for what is I'm mature a very basic question.

I have developed a pie filling recipe (beef and mushroom which is cooked in little ramekins with pastry on top), but I would like to make the liquid part a lot thicker, a bit more gravy-like.

The main parts of the recipe are 600g of beef and 200g of mushrooms. 4tbs of tomato paste and tbs of worstershire sauce. The only significant liquid is 100ml of water (with TMX stock).

It already has 2 tablespoons of cornflour (as far as I know, this is what helps to thicken liquid?).

How can I make the saucy liquid thicker?

Thanks very much to anyone who has suggestions.
