My partners mum raced down and got the last copy from Book Caffe in Swanbourne - this morning. She saw mine last night and wanted to steal it for a b'day gift for someone - I had to point out that unless she was buying for someone else named Shannon, my signed copy was useless!

So in short - no more in Swanbourne for the time being!

Yes you can Hools, where abouts are you? You will need to pay cash on pick up. We have the following locations Greenwood, Landsdale, Subiaco, or Nollamara. We would need to organise it if so.

Not sure about the eastern states yet, but will certainly let you know as soon as I know. I believe unique artsy bookstores will definitely stock it, though they will go quick, 2 WA stores ran out of stock today…hahahaha. (They only had 12 each I think, but still…pretty happy about that!)

Please stay tuned….not long now!

I was so excited went into Corna Books in Mandurah Forum  and they were just taken them out of the box, think they had 10, the lady made me laugh she had no idea what a thermomix was , but was impressed with the pictures. Now I am going to have a cuppa and sit back with my book and enjoy  ;D

Ordered at 6.00am Friday morning and arrived at the PO yesterday.  That is what I call service  ;D ;D ;D
DH couldn't understand why I had to open the box in the car,  especially as I told him that this was his Valentine pressie for me.

I have read the book from cover to cover, and have made EVERY recipe in my mind.  I am exhausted. What I like........
It is a good physical size to handle.
Good quality paper which has a nice tactile feel.
It lays open at each page, with 1 recipe to a page.
It has been produced in Australia.
A close up of the dish on each page communicates exactly how it should look.
The instructions are clear and simple.
As might be expected,  there are lots of sweet things
There are about 20 mains,  but most of the Sides could be turned into mains with the addition of some grilled, roasted or BBQ meat.
I love the Pantry Basics and the Starters and Snacks.

Criticisms.  Not many and very personal

Fresh yeast is used where yeast is called for.  I find this product unreliable and prefer dried yeast.
The soups don't offer anything very different to what I make,  with the exception of the Chorizo, French lentil and Sweet potato soup.  This will probably be the first recipe to try.

Is it worth $60?  Which is the price plus postage.  Definitely.
Will I use it, definitely.

How does it compare with other Glossy TMX books.
It offers  something completely different to the other books ,  and a challenge to the way I think about some recipes and this can only be good. You can hear Tenina talking to you about the recipes.  I like this,  it is not slick.

Congratulations Tenina.

This is the first post of a long list waiting for me after arriving back from 5 days with 3 DD's in Sydney (supposedly wedding dress shopping but found the perfect gown by 11am on the first day, so had a lot of R and R) but more importantly I have just placed my order for your latest publication Tenina.  Congratulations I hope that sales will be as fantastic as Dinner Spinner, you deserve to be rewarded for your hard work!!!!

I love your review Chookie. I took my book over to a friends place yesterday and as we left she was off to get one. She remarked that it seemed very user friendly and the recipes were the sorts of things she would make.

You are a gem…thanks for a great review, and I am sure you realise you can use dried yeast in the same way as stated in all the methods. 30g fresh yeast is about equivalent to 2 tsp dried or granulated.

SO happy you like it enough to write all that! Enjoy!  ;D ;D ;D

No order for a Mary Brown in our system (unless that is just your Forum name….not sure) Please try again, you must tick all boxes and creating an account is also a good idea. Otherwise, please email me and I can organise to call you and do the order manually.

Sorry about that…

Hi Kezza,

try health food stores that actually stock food items (as opposed to the ones that sell supplements only). Otherwise, you can sub seaweed, (nori sheets milled in Thermie) or wakame.
Good luck.

Alright I am now a Tenina Groupie :)  I tend to not buy many cookbooks because I like to buy them digitally for reading on my ipad but I have got the dinner spinner app and was impressed with those recipes and in an impulsive moment, whilst sitting in bed (inspiration station LOL), surfing - decided to push the buy button.  Book arrived today and I am very very happy with it.  I really love all the great things we can make ourselves from scratch .... I'm actually only about a third of the way through the book and to be honest if that was all there was I would be buying.  Ok back to the rest of it.  Thanks Tenina and I'm looking forward to the next book.... ooops DH just had a quick look and wants to know what's for dinner.....

Yes, it might be a long night.  I usually can't put a book or magazine down until I have read every recipe and made a list of what I would do from the book/magazine.

No CC, I have visitors today for lunch and out tomorrow so cooking new recipes on hold for the time being.

Well folks, I was sitting up in bed until 2am this morning reading every recipe - my list of 'to do' recipes numbers 74. I beg of you not to put out another book too soon Tenina, I haven't finished Dinner Spinner yet and For Food's Sake is going to take me a long to time to get through.  I don't want to live to be 100 but it looks as if I will have to if people keep putting beautiful books out like you and Alyce have lately.

Your book just blew my socks off - I knew it would be good but I honestly expected there to be so many recipes that didn't appeal to me because of the 'yuppy' ingredient factor.  OK, there are some of them and I may need to get over my adversion to chorizo once and for all and even give quinoa a go.  Crio Bru, well I will just substitute with coffee for the time being.

I love the pantry section and of course before I can really get stuck into this book, I'll have to make a few items on there so that I am prepared for anything.  Every section presented itself with doable recipes for either everyday use or for special occasions with visitors and some of the desserts are really special.  It is the best book out so far so you can be very proud of yourself Tenina. I will have to buy DD one for her birthday, I know she will love it too.

Only one disappointment and that is - where are the photos for the Jacket potatoes & pesto sour cream and the Braised brussel sprouts?? Two recipes I will definitely be doing and no photo. Looks like I will have to rely on someone else doing them (or me) and posting our own photo.

A couple of questions Tenina.

1)  Cheese sage polenta is obviously instant polenta with the quick cooking time of 8 mins.  This may catch some out who have not cooked polenta before with instant not being specified.

2) Artichoke & potato gratins - bake 60 mins then a further 10 mins (at least) then remove foil and bake a further 20 mins? This seems such a long time to bake small ramekins, does it really need that long?

3) Sage, potato & leek soup - a handful of sage leaves? I was always under the impression that one did not use too many sage leaves in a recipe, is this not overpowering with this quantity? I have a bush so the quantity is not a problem but I have only ever used a few leaves in a recipe because of what I had read.

4) Broad bean & pea salad.  If making ahead is it OK to drizzle the oil on beforehand or is it better to leave it until the last minute.
Guess it is not like lettuce that would go soggy so figuring it is OK.

5) Crio Bru beef chilli - substituting with coffee, will it not be too strong with those quantities (170g brewed liquid plus 2 tbspns granules. You don't make the brewed liquid with the 2T granules do you?)

Once again, congratulations on this beautiful book and thank you so much for your generosity in sending it to me.  I will enjoy cooking and reviewing the recipes over the coming months. :-* :-*

Thanks all for great feedback, so happy everyone seems to be enjoying the book so far.

Judy we did pics of all the recipes but the brussells and the jacket potatoes are out of focus in the lamb shot…sorry..both delicious of course!
1. You are correct about the polenta…I should have written time as specified on package, which would have elimiated errors…
2.I hate uncooked potato gratin…but you could reduce cooking time if you really wanted to…they were divine when cooked that long.
3. I love sage…so handful it is…without the stalky bits.
4.Oil drizzling can be as early as you like, though you may need to add more just prior to serving.
5.No the brewed liquid and the granules are two separate components of the flavour base…we will send you some to try! How about that!

Johnro, how do you do those little cute pics?? Thanks.
 ;D ;D ;D

So easy Tenina - here (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys-bouncey.php) you go. Pick a smiley of choice and copy the forum code under the image paste into your post on the forum - no need for inserting pic/hyperlink etc.  BTW the choc cheesecake form FFS was a winner with all except DH who does not like dark choc and I used the 70% intense Lindt  :)  :)

I've yet to do anything other than read it and salivate. Mum's coming to visit for a few days at the end of the week, so will give something fantastic a shot then.

(http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-bounce006.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

No, not our forum code Courton. Go back to Johnro's thread and click on the word here.  This will take you to the smiley site.  You will see the little fellows bouncing around all over the place, just pick the one you want to copy.  You will see 3 headings, Forum code, HTML code and URL code.  Highlight what you can see under Forum Code only.  Press Control + C to copy it, go to where you want to post a message to include a smiley and Press Control + V to copy it into the box.  You will see a code there, not a smiley but if you click on Preview you will then see the smiley which will appear on your posting.  Just try one out, it's easy once you get the hang of it.

Wow!  Spent the day cooking, should have been working!!!  Now I have the umani paste, yellow curry paste, and chicken vegetable stock powder.  Basics in the fridge ready to go!!  About to put the baguette in the varoma too.  Used fresh yeast for the first time ever so really excited!!! Everything I've made looks exactly like the picture, and the tastes (and smells!) are divine.  What a great way to use up a chicken carcass!!!!
My friend and I went to Tenina's class yesterday lunchtime.  Just like the last class, it was fun, informative, tasty and refreshing..  Keep the classes coming Tenina and we'll keep attending.  We are so lucky to live here!!!!

I'll be there CP, I did such a good job of cooking to tortillas at the last class, that Tenina has asked me back again :)

JD I think I left the chicken and veg in the over for about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. I forgot about them, they were really dry.

Thanks Jen, all up that's what I did but I removed bits as they dried fully - like the onion in particular.  One last slice of carrot would not dry up so it got the flick  :D

With the dried chicken stock I left it for about 2 hours as I had two layers. The chicken skin was still a bit greasy looking but it turned out just great anyway.

Chicken stock- I left mine in the oven until the skin was crispy..  I did turn the oven quite low, as I didn't want to burn the veges etc.  I did have the tray quite piled up and turned the veges / bones over regularly.  I did also take out those that dried out first, and left others in a bit longer- the celery took longer to dry out than the skin and some of the other veges.  I used fennel seeds too as I didn't have any celery seeds.. All up I reckon the oven was on about 2 hours, not good when it's 40 degrees in the shade, but I'm loving cooking so much at the moment nothing else matters!!
I made the energy bars today..  I processed everything up though- my kids aren't keen on chunky nuts.  I had whole almonds, skin on, so milled down you won't pick the skins.  They are YUM!  Have told my girls they can have them for beakfast with a glass of milk- they think I've gone mad letting them have chocolate for breakfast!
Any one NOR- Jones St, (Stirling) Fruit and Vege have "2nd's almonds" cheap (think I paid $5 for a kg) they're broken bits of almonds, but perfect for cooking...
Yes Cookie, we must make ourselves known!  I will go to Tenina's next day time class if she does one as promised!!!
I'm having a green smoothie for lunch every day too..  Attempting to lose the weight I've gained since thermie came along, so far so good...

Had a look at this book in dymocks today and am deffo going to buy it.  What I liked about it on a quick glance was unlike some of the thermomix books I have, this one is not afraid to use the oven in conjunction with the thermomix.  FSA and MWOC just have the whole lot done in TM which is not always so appetizing

Totally agree with you there Baf!

I wouldn't bother making the chicken stock powder. When I have a roast chicken, I always cook up the bones with celery, carrot, onion and parsley on the stove.  Cook on very low for a few hours. Strain, reduce and freeze in plastic bags.

In Sydney, I have been asking around at the specialist cookbook shop (who surprisingly were very vague about TMX and seem uninterested) as well Dymocks who did try to find out if it was available and came back and said, sorry no.

courton - you'd think when someone is in a specialist cookbook shop (think I know the one you're referring to) you'd think their ears would perk up to someone coming in and bringing to their notice something about which they had little knowlege.  One would hope they'd have the initiative to research it a little more, learn more, add to their professional knowledge, bring in appropriate stock and, in so doing, bring a new dimension to their business.  (my turn on the soapbox is up I'm told . . . ;))

I know everone on this forum loves Tenina and she has done a great job with both books and I'm sure she has more to come, but I don't understand how she is not in contravention of the rules of this forum, section 5 I believe which was pointed out to another poster who linked to her store a few weeks ago and seems to have been booted off. I understand that Tenina contributes to the forum in many ways, and has helped many purchase her book but this post now linking directly to her publisher and her own post linking to her Melbourne and Adelaide courses I would have thought were in direct contravention of the rules. I'm happy to stand corrected and not wanting to have a go at Tenina but it seems the rules are being applied differently  to different people??

Hi Wonder. If that is the post that I think you are referring to the person concerned actually removed the posts herself/himself.
To my knowledge they weren't booted off and there was no direct link to a store.
From my reading they were from WA is that correct?

I remember the post Wonder is referring to...

They were selling spatulas and other items, with prices.  There was a link to their Facebook store.
I think it was a girl in WA, because I clicked on her link and looked at her Facebook page.

After they posted the prices, someone asked them had they read the rules of the forum, especially 5.1

Wonder have you read Tenina's explanation here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=9068.15;topicseen). Scroll to the bottom of page 2.

To my knowledge no-one has been booted off the forum unless they were spamming with their first posting. The person to whom you refer is still on here.

Morning all from sunny Europe.

I'd like to thank Wonder for raising a very important issue here. It is good that these points are spoken about. And as we are the biggest Anglo-Speaking Thermie community in the universe we also need to change with the times.

The rules that I made were from day 1, and I had no idea in how many would use this forum for spamming. Now we have thousands of members and strong and honest community.

Genuine Spamming issues are now under control (200+ spammers try and enter per day), and our moderators are doing a fantastic job in helping me out with the many daily posts.

To my knowledge, no one has ever been kicked out for posting commercial Thermomix posts.A few have been requested to remove posts, based on the current rules. There have been a few dozen genuine spammers that have slipped through the net and have been booted out and banned almost immediately.

So, the forum moderators and myself are reviewing the current rule 5.1  Like I mentioned above, a good community must adapt to the needs of it's members. My case is that if a member wants to place a link to an external site that can benefit other members with Thermie isses, then I do not see any problem with this. Currently some members place links to their blogs/sites. I encourage this, so that in turn, this forum is seen as a central hub for all things Thermomix. People use this as a valuable source of information.

I will let you know about the outcome of the decision.

Thanks

MM

Please do let me know if I ever step out of line. The forum is such a great club for like-minded (open-minded?) Thermomix enthusiasts and I wouldn't want to jeopardize my membership here in any way  ;)

Happy mixing everyone!

Not in your wildest imagination will  THermomix give voice to Tenina. More fool them. Perhaps you can get your local bookstore to order it through  Hub and Spoke publishers. It will still be pretty expensive for you. Maybe sea mail would be your best bet.  Otherwise just bite the bullet. It is well worth it.

Gert.

Dot the publisher (Pete) is heading to the UK in June with books in his luggage I believe, and will set up a pick and pack for books ordered through him for the UK and Europe, so please hang in there and I suggest contacting him right now to set one aside for you!!

Only a few weeks until June after all! (Scary thought!)

Dear Pete & Tenina,
There you see, I was so excited that I actually sent a blank post! What an incredibly kind thing it is for you to do. I have just had my final dose of Chemotherapy. My dulled appetite resulted in 4 months of soup. I have become the soup queen of England. Now I love soup but it becomes a bit monotonous though it did lose me several stones in weight. My thoughts are now returning to a plan for food and exercise. I still have lots of treatment to go through but I feel that I am over the worst bit. Your book could not be arriving at a better time. I shall take up the reviewing with pleasure.
It is a very appreciative Dot that says a big thank you.

Well deserved gift to you Dot. I am glad to hear you are over the worst of your treatment. Hope all is looking up from now on for you.
And hope you can change your diet a little to add some solids to your menu :)
I love soup too but only so much before I would be sick of it.

Dot, I'm so happy for you.
Tenia's  book is terrific. My mum was looking through it this afternoon to choose some recipes for me to make for her birthday. She finished looking through it and basically said that she would be happy with anything I choose to make her. She thought that all the recipes looked delicious.

After reading the Facebook thread, all I can say is that Tenia is demonstrating that you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

Wow! The book and T Towel arrived yesterday in the post. I couldn't stop looking at it. It has a lovely "feel" in the hands too.  Of course I wanted to get going straight away and so made what is probably the easiest recipe in the caramelised garlic paste. I spread this on my piece of chicken last night and it really brought it alive....well not actually alive but it was a great taste.  I am going to do the Umami paste or the chicken stock powder or both today.

I am so grateful and appreciative to you Tenina and Pete.  Thank you so, so much for your extraordinary generosity.

Verjuice (http://www.maggiebeer.com.au/products/verjuice), you could use wine or stock in place of.

Speck (http://www.mariobatali.com/ingredients_speck.cfm), you could use bacon or proscuitto in place of.

Tenina, I love love love your book but as a general comment would appreciate if you could add a statement of easily available substitutes for some of your ingredients in your next book! Some examples include dried cherries, criu bru etc. it would help people like me who may not want to buy a product for one dish in case it is stuck in the cupboard to be thrown out in months to come (eg dulse flakes) or just can't find the damn cherries (dried ones that is). It is a minor quibble but just feedback for your next book. Otherwise, the recipes are great!

I have never seen dried cherries either but I suppose you could dry them yourself or substitute dried cranberrys or Craisins. There are substitutes for cri bru but of course Tenina IS cri bru in Australia. I use pure raw cacao powder from the health food store. If Tenina brings some crio bru to the weekend I may buy some .

I absolutely hate  the wanker recipe mags like Gourmet or Deliscious that have wanker ingredients and don't buy them any more. They try to make a simple recipe for the elite forgetting that not all ppl live in a place you can actually buy that stuff.   I love it when that say any good deli will stock it. What bloody deli in Cairns?  Deli did someone say deli?  As if ::

I found the dried cherries here at a fancy bulk shop called "Licquorice). They were very expensive. If I was to buy them again I would buy precisely the amount I needed. I would say cranberries/craisins would be a good sub tho.

I can't get them in my home town either but I dried some in my dehydrator after Christmas when they were going cheap and they turned out really good. I plan on doing a lot more this year when I see them at a good price as I do come across quite a few recipes asking for them.

Hi Connars nan, just went over to the DOFB Link to Reviews and will PM what I copied off so you will have it as it hasn't been removed. I think with first print runs no matter how well its proof read and edited, there will always be things that escape the human eye no matter how hard they try. If you are more patient, second production of anything is always better than the first.

I have Mum's copy of In the Mix and my own of For Food's Sake. So far I've made three recipes from ITM, and they've all been a little disappointing. One was a complete failure (see White Bean Truffled Soup review for my experience), the Hainanese chicken rice was nice but not mind-blowing for the time and effort, and the okonomiyaki were very soft and a bit hard to deal with, although tasty. There are a lot of recipes that look spectacular though more dinner party type food, and given my experiences, I would want to test-run a recipe first before trying it out on guests!

From For Food's Sake, I've made the Cinnamon Scrolls, Caramelised Garlic Paste, Citrus Curd, Flavoured Butter, Chorizo Fajitas, Calzone, Chorizo, Lentil and Sweet Potato soup and Cranberry & Almond Granuesli. All the recipes have worked first time and taste great. I wish there were more books like this - I really like Tenina's flavours.

The reason Tenina's recipes work so well is because she tests and tests and tests again. And she does not cook boring food. Also she thinks outside the square about flavour enhancing  food.

In saying a 'coffee table' book I mean that it would look good as a display on a coffee table. I feel that most of the recipes are for special occasions. My ' For Foods Sake' and 'quick Mix in the Thermomix' live in the kitchen and get splotches on, whereas my In the Mix' lives in another room.
I'm sure you'll try lots of the recipes and give us feed back.

If you need some help Miss 50's, please do as Cookie suggested and let us know what your problems are.  Which recipes have you tried which have disappointed you, which books are you using etc. Have you done any from this forum or from any of the blogs on this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=8228.0) list?  What type of food do you and your family like?  You will find our members will be only too pleased to give you some ideas and get you on the right track.  Have you seen this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?board=48.0) list of recipe books and reviews - find the book on this list, click on it and it will take you to a list of recipes our members have done, reviewed and tweaked if necessary.  It's a great help if recipes are not working out for you.  Obviously the more reviews a recipe has the greater idea you will have of it's success.

We thought the video's would make a great 'reference' even for those confident with their Thermomix and Tenina's recipes. It is always nice to see how someone else cooks.

We have a big suprise coming your way on Super Kitchen Machine to celebrate Tenina's Test Kitchen on YouTube - be sure to check out Helene's website this week.

Lol thanks everyone. I've mainly been doing recipes out of the EDC. I did the beef stew out of the budget book last night and it was okay. I need to sit down and sift through the forum properly to get some ideas. I'm currently making baby food for my 4 month old to freeze.

Love the idea Pete, lower cost meals with less ingredients was something I was going to suggest to Tenina at the retreat.  Her recipes are wonderful but with everyone on a budget these days, a recipe book or app for quick, cheap, tasty meals with readily available ingredients would be a certain winner. I'm sure others would agree with me on this point.
