Dear All
I've invited two other families here this Saturday... which will make for six adults and nine children... :o :-))

can I do all the food in the TM?  I'd like to think that I can.... ;D

Could anyone suggest any recipes or ideas that would work...

my thinking so far is:
-home made pizzas for the kids - variety of toppings, possibly the tomato frito sauce from the MWOC (?) book as the tomato sauce on the pizza
-I've done the Pork and Potato with Ginger recipe that I found here online somewhere.. which is really really good.... if I do that again, can anyone suggest any 'appropriate' second main dish/es to accompany it?
-bread rolls - milk ones from one of my books (sorry can't remember which one... but my daughters can make them into rolls for baking!)

-we've done a lot of the sorbet and rice pudding... i could always make some in advance and keep in freezer (sorbet!!) and just reheat for  the rice pudding...

I've also been asked what I should tell the guest to bring... they are always happy to make something....

anyway - if anyone has made it this far through the post - thank you and and I'd *love* to have your thoughts advice and or suggestions
with thanks
Gillian

Recipe Requests / Help pls with UK 'birds eye' type custard....
« on: August 13, 2011, 12:56:02 am »
Dear all
If this isn't the right place for this- sorry!

My children like the Bird's Eye custard -made from the UK Bird's Eye custard powder that I can get here in Sydney and of course in the UK.  It's basically a cornflour-thickened milk based pudding with some annatto (?) coloring, vanilla flavouring and added sugar.

I have tried an online custard recipe (no eggs), to great disappointment... DH has suggested I wait until he needs to fill in cracks/holes in the house before I make it again!

Does anyone have a substitute recipe or even ideas on whether/how I make the Bird's Eye custard in the TM (and yes I do realize the irony of this!!)?

Or perhaps an even Better request would be - does anyone have a plan to convert or wean Bird's Eye custard lovers over to 'proper' custard lovers?

Thanks!
Gillian

Ps I loved the lemon custard demo option - but don't have the recipe and know that I won't have success with a lemon tasting one at present.  Also I think my attempt was too vanilla-y and too solid.....

Introduce Yourself / I'm new - Gillian in Sydney, from UK!
« on: August 09, 2011, 02:50:30 am »
Hi all...
I'm Gillian - with two children and a husband, and a TM31...
I've had the TM three weeks... and similar to many here, am a very very happy woman!

I've been trying out all sorts of delights - made my first jam (strawberry) successfully and my second jam (apple and kiwi fruit) unsuccessfully (I burst the glass jar!)... both tasted delicious!

Yesterday was a batch of cinnamon rolls - DD5yo said that they were better than sweeties and chocolate (we've just been visiting the grandparents and there were rather more of the s&c than I would have preferred!) and definitely better than Ikea's (!!)

I've tried out the pork and potatoes with ginger recipe which I found here somewhere - I've done it with both 'real' chillies and also Franklin's 'chilli paste' (rather than the sambal oelek).

I have done a variety of sorbets (despite it being very cold, the girls seem to love it!!).

And of course the rice pudding (called Milchreis in this house!) and also mushroom risotto for guests over the weekend.

Mashed potatoes have also featured largely on the menu, thanks to the ease with which I can make them!

I'm not so good on steaming the veg... I start off enthusiastically but then resort to finishing them off in the microwave... don't think I've been giving them long enough to steam properly!

I cooked pasta in the TM last night (fusilli) and had the excitement of the water bubbling up through the hole - so turned it down to 90C.

And I'm enthusing so much about this machine to those around me, that I'm being told to go and work for them!!!

thank you for having such a fantastic resource!!
regards
Gillian
