Recipe Requests / chocolate topping
« on: October 13, 2010, 01:43:44 am »
Hello!  Does anyone have a recipe for chocolate topping, or a runny chocolate sauce to drizzle over fruit or icecream - one that can be made ahead and stored for a while in the fridge, rather than making fresh each time?

Hi everyone, I'm an ex-Perth person now living in Adelaide - and all this talk about the Sth Perth foreshore and the Mr Whippy van is making me homesick  :'(     Unfortunately the "mighty" Torrens River just doesnt compare to the Swan  ;) Would love to be able to join you!

Yum - this looks great Julie!  We have a large number of raspberry canes growing along our back fence, and this year's crop is shaping up to be a bumper one - so this recipe will definitely be used!  Thanks for posting it.

Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Re: Pasta with Tuna - EDC
« on: October 10, 2010, 08:00:08 am »
I made this recipe a little while ago, and although it tasted great and the kids loved it, the pasta got quite mashed up and it ended up a bit gluggy- I used pasta bows, and followed the recipe exactly.

Any ideas what I did wrong??  Or does the pasta always get a bit mashed up when you cook it in the TMX?

But the recipe certainly was very tasty, and I would like to try it again.

Hi Cheryls,
Welcome!  You will love your TMX and what you can do with it!  I am new to it too, but have had such help and advice from this forum.  By the time your demo comes around you will be using it like a master  ;D

Chit Chat / Help with storing recipes on computer/online
« on: October 06, 2010, 06:41:34 am »
I was wondering if anyone can recommend any software or app for storing recipes on a computer?  I want to be able to type in and store existing recipes that I have collected, as well as import new ones from heaps of different websites/blogs.

I am not very techno-savvy (using this forum is an achievement!) and I am not sure where to start looking.

We use Apple Mac computers at home, so whatever software we get will have to be Mac compatible.

Up until now I have just been typing in recipes by hand using Word, but now that I have a TMX there are just so many new ones to try that I will never keep up with doing it that way!!

Thanks!
Karen

Chit Chat / Re: Bokashi
« on: October 06, 2010, 06:05:44 am »
I have used a bokashi bucket for a few years now, and think they are great!  I tend to alternate between putting scraps in the compost and some in the bokashi bucket.  The advantage is that you can put small amounts of meat as well as onion, garlic and citrus into the bokashi bucket, which aren't supposed to go into conventional compost.

A while back I did an experiment and planted some vegies over the top of a recently-buried lot of bokashi, and some into the normal vegie patch - and I swear the vegies growing over the bokashi grew heaps better and were stronger plants and bore more vegies.

I hadnt thought of munching the scraps in the TMX beforehand though - what a great idea!!

« on: October 05, 2010, 11:50:47 pm »
Mmmmm -  not sure what I am doing wrong when I made the butter then - I used 500ml pure cream, and only got about 50ml of buttermilk out of it.

Will have to try it again, and maybe beat the cream for longer.

Thanks too for the hint about the sour cream jo - might give that a try too!

Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Recipe review - Buttermilk scones (EDC)
« on: October 05, 2010, 06:38:54 am »
I have made this recipe twice - the first time I used store-bought buttermilk and although the mixture was quite wet and sticky, the scones were perfect and delicious!  The second time I used homemade buttermilk left over from making my own butter.  But I think I made a mistake and added the 500ml cold water used to "rinse" the butter to the buttermilk that came from the initial churning of the cream (there didnt seem to be very much buttermilk there - nowhere near enough to make a batch of scones, so I thought I was supposed to use the water too).  The resulting buttermilk was very watery and thin, and the scones were flat and hard - although the ducks around our dam didnt complain ;D

In future I will stick to bought buttermilk - because that recipe was a winner!

Introduce Yourself / Re: loving my thermomix!
« on: October 05, 2010, 12:37:04 am »
Thanks everyone so much for your warm welcome and encouragement!  Good advice too about keeping the pantry stocked for DH ............. he had our 3.5 year old son in the kitchen over the weekend "helping" him cook in the tmx  :o

We had a gorgeous long weekend here in Adelaide, and every day we got to go bike riding together as a family, instead of me staying at home cooking while DH took the kids outside ..........  vorwerk could market the TMX as an alternative to relationship counselling  :D :D

Introduce Yourself / loving my thermomix!
« on: October 01, 2010, 08:47:57 am »
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself as a new person to thermomix and to this forum!  We have had our TMX for just over a month now, and it has changed my life!  I sent an email to Jo (Quirky Cooking) about our TMX experiences, and she suggested I post it here too - so here it is!  I am SOOO looking forward to getting inspiration and advice from this forum too - now that I have found it!

I have 2 little boys (3 ½ and 1) and have a full-time job that involves lots of on-call and out of hours work.  My husband has taken extended leave without pay from his job to stay home and care for the kids (I am very lucky), rather than having them in fulltime childcare.  And whilst he is a FABULOUS father and looks after them so well, he is not much for planning and preparing food.  And having good, wholesome, nutritious food for the family is really important to me.  So I used to work long hours all week, and then spend my evenings and weekends planning food, shopping, preparing food for the week and cleaning up afterwards.  I ended up exhausted and resentful and having a real love-hate relationship with food, not to mention missing out on important time with the kids and with DH.  DH used to tell me to give myself a break and to take “short cuts” in the kitchen to make life easier, but everytime I looked at something that was a shortcut, it seemed to compromise the quality of the food, or have heaps of artificial additives in it, and I just couldn’t bring myself to serve up most of the “quick’n’easy” pre-prepared options that I could find in the supermarket.

And then one day a friend invited me to a TMX demo – and it all changed!  Now I can whip up fabulous, tasty, nutritious meals in minutes and with minimal mess in the kitchen.  And finding your blog has opened up a whole new world of cooking for me, using far more wholefoods that I would have previously, introducing me to new ingredients and making so many things from scratch ourselves!  And an added bonus is that DH obviously loves a “gadget” and has taken to the TMX like a duck to water, and when I get home from work now he has whipped up all sorts of things in it during the day (the other day I got home to find a new batch of vege stock concentrate in the fridge, homemade milo powder, a cake cooling on the bench, stewed rhubarb and apple cooling down and tuna pasta made for dinner for the kids  ;D

So between the TMX and your blog, I am far more relaxed, enjoy cooking again, have far more time with the kids and have a much better relationship with DH – and still serving up wonderful healthy food!

I cannot thank you enough …….
