It has turned quite cold here. Not complaining. Yesterday collected another lot from storage. More stuff for Vinnies I think. The storage unit is now 3/4 empty. Joiner coming tomorrow to measure up the shelves for drawers and look at turning a bedroom into a library/ study. I can’t reach the back of the shelves and can’t find ingredients when I want to cook. I want to use the TMX 6 more but don’t want to start experimenting until I can easily find ingredients. My consultant said she will come and get me started again. Also got the name of a picture hanger. Big decisions to be made as to what to keep and hang and what to discard.

Yesterday made yogurt. Too much again for yogurt container so set leftovers again in oven. Warmed oven to 50 degrees. Poured yogurt into a plastic container. Switched off oven heat but left light on. Placed container on shelf. It set in the same time as that in yogurt machine. 8 hours.

Made the Portuguese loaf again, this time in the large loaf tin. Forgot it was in the oven and didn’t hear the timer. Bottom a bit browner but otherwise ok.

Oh Mab, I feel for you. I pop my shelves in the dishwasher and then scrub them in the sink. The dish washer softens anything that’s stuck to them. Still unpacking. Ral has finished the shelves in the garage. Now I can place my appliances where I can see them.

Thought I’d put this in a separate post. Inspired by Judy’s garden. This is what I see when seated at the table. From the left, tomatoes, parsley and basil, geraniums and clematis. All in pots, a mix of flower and veggies. I also have French beans and lettuce, chives and most herbs. 3 sides of our block has been planted with Bay bushes to act as a screen. I’ve pulled a couple out but will trim off the lower branches to make space for more pots.

Need to make bread. So many choices. Will make SD crumpets for friends and freezer. We are in for a cool week so may be able to find time to do some baking.

Had a great day with DS. The doorbell he originally put in was faulty. We took it back to JB Hi Fi and it was replaced. Works well now. While there I did a little shopping. Bought, on DS recommendation, cads to slip into our iPhone wallets so they can be traced if lost. ( we have just spent 2 weeks looking for Rals phone . Finally found under car seat) will last 2 years as has own battery. Issue with other tracing devices built into iPad is that if iPhone battery goes flat, you can’t trace it.

Wow, Cookie and Mab, 2 lovely loaves. I’ve just seen a recipe for a lemon cake that uses SD starter. Tempted to make one. Might make it into muffins and the I can have one and give rest away. Cooking sweet corn, fish in SD batter and salad for lunch.

Judy, both front and back look lovely. I’m learning to garden in pots so I’m interested in what you are doing.. KAtie , great to see the kids getting ready for a new school year. Today DS is coming up from Melbourne to again look at our internet, door bell and security. He shifts all the stuff around trying to find the best spot. He can monitor our internet from Melbourne so knows when it’s not working properly. We tap away in ignorant bliss. A/C worked well yesterday but lovely and cool today.

Judy, you amaze and inspire me with how you keep trying. Although you have issues with taste and texture you still give it a go. Cookie, that strange mango trifle I make could possibly change into strawberry or raspberry quite successfully. Mab, sounds like your TMX scales can’t be relied on. The success of the Portuguese loaf relies upon 2 things. The first is the proportion of water to flour and secondly the 40 minute hydration. I’ve tried messing about with both of these and the loaf isn’t as good. The only trouble I’ve had is with the baking. I’m afraid my Euro oven is rubbish. Small cakes ok but bread burns and after 10 minutes I have to cover loaf with foil.

We are having crumbed chicken and vegetables tonight. We get a respite from the 36°+ on Friday. Then on Saturday it goes back up to 36°.
Oh Cookie, and I was thinking 29 here today was uncomfortable. Spag Bol and salad.

Thanks for the kind thoughts for Ral. He is having a full dose of this Chemo with blood tests every 2 weeks. His reaction is similar to when he was having the frequent infusions. Think it might be cumulative. It is a strange lifestyle we are living. Sometimes we eat lunch late afternoon. Then just fruit for dinner. Yesterday, roast chicken, chips and salad for lunch and just trifle for dinner. Man coming today to check that the installation of blinds is possible.
