Hey All,
So what kitchen utensils do people usually use with their Thermomix that don't come supplied.
For example, I've bought a bread tin since we're hoping to move away from the Breadmaker, and I see talk of the supplied Spatula maybe not being ideal to get stuff out of the bowl. Then we don't currently keep ice cubes, so I guess some ice cube trays would be good. Any particular type on those?
So, please post your list of useful accessories for using with the TMX.
Thanks. Russell.

Hi Russell, The things that I find most useful are a set of small stainless steel bowls, I sit these on the TMX lid to weigh ingredients. The other thing is a bottle brush from Safeway, it has a blue handle, is quite sturdy, and costs $4 to $5 . I have several spatulas, and never use the TMX one. With the good bottle brush and spatulas I hardly ever remove the base for cleaning . .Another suggestion, if I may, is write all over your EDC book when you make small adjustments to recipes, you will get the same good result each time . Have fun.

I have found the TMX temp control is not quite accurate enough for some of my projects so I drilled a hole in the flange of the spatula so I can insert a highly accurate Thermapen probe into the material in the bowl. It works a treat.

I've seen a couple posts talk about brushes. What's the required specifications?
Nylon?
Hard or soft bristles? Long or short?
Handle: Long and stiff or flexible?
-
I really like the TMX branded brush - especially the price - $5 I think?
Definitely ice cube trays, and if you can see your pantry expanding, then suitable containers for an increasing range of nuts, seeds, grains, dried fruits, flours, sugars etc. But maybe you already cook with all those.
I'd also consider a bread mat of some kind.

silicone spatula
maybe a treadmill ??? :D :D :D ;)

Definitely!!!

ROFLMAO ;D ;D is that what I forgot to buy!!
I have found since using the TM bowl brush that I no longer need the smaller teat brush at all - I was a huge advocate and instigator with the teat brush prior. Personally I think for your money get a bowl brush, they last heaps longer than the others and are dual purpose as they clean the bowl and under the blades!
and everything else everyone else has mentioned before hand :D

Must be an inside joke, I'm afraid I don't get it.
Also something I should probably know, but what's a bread mat for?
Russell.

I use it to wrap my various doughs in while they're resting or rising etc. Stops them from drying out. I'm sure they have many other uses.
The TMX branded one has a measuring tape down the side, so you can spread or roll your dough to appropriate size as per recipe. Very handy.

russell, most people get so excited cooking new goodies that they put weight on when they first get their tmx lol
the bread mat is to wrap your bread in while it's proving, and then to cook it on

Oh right.
So, is the bread mat differnt to a normal silicone baking sheet, which we have a couple of already? How could you wrap the bread in it? Is it like cloth?
I just normally throw mine ina bowl with glad wrap over for proving??
Russell.

You can use the silicon mats you have already Russell!
My suggestions are a larger freezer and fridge. :D

On the containers front........I'm not sure if the special is on in QLD too, but Coles here in NSW have the sistema containers with klip lock for half price atm. I stock up on these when they are on sale, for all those extra things in the cupboard that I didn't have before! These are my favourite containers, they stack well, and are really airtight.
I bought a silicone spatula too.

You can cook on it? Is that instead of baking paper?

That's so cool. Any maximum temperatures to be aware of?

It depends on the brand you are using cathy... I know mine states nothing higher than 230 deg but I have another that says higher. *shrug*

Already got a trampoline. It's upside down in the front yard as the kids broke the legs off.
I still don't see how you can wrap a silicon baking mat around dough? Maybe I'll just need to see the thing at our demo and compare. Do the consultants normally bring all the accessories with?
Russell.

I have a silicone mat that (chefs toolbox) that is just the size of a standard biscuit sheet. From what I remember of seeing a TMX bread mat it might be bigger. I really can't picture being able to wrap up rising dough in the silicone mat I have atm.
-
The bread mats are really 'flimsy' is the best way to describe them, sort of like floppy! They wrap around dough perfectly, like wrapping n paper that is thick!!
They are great for rolling out say cookie dough and putting straight into the the oven
Def get the Thermo brush, mine is still looking as good as the day I bought it 18mth ago!

brush, mat, lots of TM recipe books, and a second bowl if the budget stretches...um think thats everything!
(Russell, you seem pretty handy on the computer so a digital camera as well so you can download pics of all your converted recipes ;) he he)

Think most things have been covered .... and yes an exercise bike is a must have - very much an in joke. Sorry, we oldies are a bit weird and naughty - teasing the young'uns. :-)) :-)) :-))

Does a picture of an empty plate with a few crumbs on it count? Photography is another of my hobbies, so I think a few pictures might be possible :)
I originally thought of the cookbooks, but I reckon there's enough stuff on here that it's probably not worth bothering.

Absolutely correct Russell- and they are mostly tested, reviewed and tweaked

The TMX bread mats are silicone coated fibre glass like a plastic teatowel so wrap the bread up nicely. but not really needed just a luxury. Your consulted will definitely be using one at demo. And yeah you can cook on it. I once left my dough all wrapped up in it and my my oven on about 40oC for it to rise and the stupid digital oven flicked itself up to 180oC on its own and cooked the bread so lucky for me it goes in the oven! But other than that have never used it that way. :-)) ;)

I have an old Silpat that I initially bought with my TM, and sometimes I prefer that to my new green mat depending on the task. I find when the dough has risen the first time it sticks to the mat and it rolls up and down as I am trying to knead/shape it (its too flimsy for this) whereas my oldie is much sturdier. I like the new one though as it has the measurements down the sides.
