I have been looking on gumtree at TM31's. Thinking my son and partner would like one for Xmas. There aren't as many advertised now compared to when TM5 was first released. What do you think is a fair price to pay for a second hand machine? I am thinking I will avoid the machines that require a green seal and I know my machine is still working well after 31/2 years of almost abuse, well lots of hard work!

I think it is a fair question Bedlam. I honestly don't know what is a fair price. I guess it would depend on age and why the person was selling it. Mine is 6 years old and going strong. You can probably tell by looking at the bowl how much it has been used. Also if the person selling has a second bowl etc.
Have you had a look at any yet?

Quite OK to post the question Denise. I'd be interested to see how much they're selling for too, do you know how to avoid the batch that needs the green seal?

Thanks ladies, I know the serial numbers affected re the green seal.
I saw one yesterday for $1150. And a few for $1300. I think that is reasonable however a lot want a lot more.
Just wondered what others thought was fair.

Denise have you tried Thermo Manic buy sell & swap page on Facebook?
Plenty have been offered for sale there. Or you can post your own ad saying what you want and how much your prepared to pay etc.
I think $1,300 what be the maximum, but depending on age of machine and accessories included. I've seen lots that have 2 bowls, or Thermoservers, cookbooks etc.

I was trying to get a local one so I could test drive.
That's my thoughts too, $1300. Seems fair but lots are asking a lot more.

I think for $1300 it would only want to be a couple of years old. It will be a lovely gift.

Bedlam, Im thinking of putting mine up for sale in the next few weeks and was hoping to get around $1,300 including the second bowl and blade but I haven't looked to see how much they are going for so don't really know if it's a fair price or not.

I agree - avoid the green seal.
I think that $1100 is more then fair for a 4 yro (non-green seal) machine with accessories and another bowl. Without those, I'd be looking for max $1000. It is 2nd hand with no warrenty.

I am aware of the issue because I have one of the affected machines. I have been told that the machine is safe to use with the green seal. I was just curious to see if there is another issue with the machine that I am not aware of. Wondering exactly what is wrong with this machine, is it just a batch of faulty seals? Or is it something more sinister that we are not being told.

My machine is one of the so called "affected" ones. I haven't actually chased up a green seal (bought mine from overseas not through Thermomix Aust) as it is perfectly fine. In the two years I have owned and used it daily, I have never experienced any of the issues people are being warned about.
I wouldn't necessarily write off a green deal machine - I would however ask to perform a few test runs with it. Ie try locking and unlocking the lid a few times; asking to boil water and pretend to "blend" with said hot water etc. any leaks, issues then walk away.

Really difficult question this. I am only responding as a few friends have asked me "are they really worth it? And what would one cost?"
I don't think there is a fair price if honest. Some people on gum tree etc are looking for lots of money but are throwing in things like thermoservers etc but the prices are still up there. I think it's a question that only the purchaser can answer. Would I be prepared to pay A$1300 for a 3 - 4 year old TM31? Probably not. That however is only because I now know how fantastic they are so I would almost certainly push to find the extra money to purchase a brand new one complete with warranty and safety of knowledge about is use (or lack of).
In short, there isn't really a fair price but only one of fortunate timing and what one is prepared to pay for such a generous gift.
The other option is to broaden your search criteria but that is a debate that maybe I won't open up.

RC, this fabulous forum has come to my rescue again. I am purchasing from a dear forum friend. My TM31 is about the same age and with 2 jugs I am very happy with the price we have agreed to.
I think I love my 31 more than my 5! Certainly not prepared to sell mine just yet. Saying this hopefully my FF won't change their mind.

I think $1200 is a fair price. I can't part with my TM31, it's so special to me. I'm keeping it and taking it to Albany, where we have a holiday home. My future DIL can use it when I'm not there. She's ecstatic! I use it constantly, cooking rice or potatoes while I'm cooking the main in the TM5, or making a custard or sauce while another dish is cooking. I can understand that some people need to sell due to financial pressure, but I'm so glad I don't.

There is no way I'm getting rid of my TM31. It would be like selling an old friend. We have been through a lot together.

We absolutely subscribe to the wonders of this kitchen genius if honest. To the point of discussing what we would do should ours stop working. Other than have it serviced / repaired the short answer would be to buy another, as simple as that.
Both MRSRC2B and I agree that if we had the space (read when we have the space) the kitchen will be blessed with another TMX . It will then be a case of one for savory and one for sweet. Total overkill I know but hey..... There's a new model out.....
