Well this has been in the woodworks for a while but alot has been going on and we were unable to mention our plans but after negative event after negative event we have decided to move to Australia !!!!!!
We will be moving (in my case) back to oz .. For dh and the kids it will be unknown territory around the end of September this year so it will be our last European summer in France..
We are both happy and sad... And it's been a bit of a roller coaster ride so far this year but there you go just wanted to share the news !! This is also the reason I haven't been on much of late as between visitors and paperwork and visas and painters and getting the house ready for sale and and we have had very little spare time...
For my part I will be sad to leave but also very happy to return to my natal country..it's been 12 years and for one I will be happy to rejoin the warmer climate... No more icy roads and slush and never ending cold months. :))
Voila End news alert lol
Frozzie ;D

Great news Kim, France has had you long enough and it is time to return to your homeland. Great that DH is keen to do it as well. How exciting but how busy you must have been. Hope it all runs smoothly for you with no more hassles. :-* :-*

Wow Kim, that is news. I had been thinking I havent seen much of you on here. Sorry it has come from dissapointment but nice to have an adventure to look forward to. I am sure your extended family will be thrilled to have you all close again. Lots of organising for you now. Take care, try not to stress too much.

-
Welcome home. Life is full of adventures whether we want them or not.
Gert
Very true gert but this one is a keeper even if the reasons preceding the decision weren't all good .. Life wasn't meant to be boring and can't say mine has ever been lol but I like it that way. :p
-
Thanks cecilia but I'm not home quite yet :)
Still have to figure out which airlines allow you to take thermie on board minus the blades lol.. A big priority!!! Not going anywhere without thermie and my cookbooks lol
-
Kim, so pleased for you and your family.
-
Thx chookie :)
-
Hey I just realized with you moving in September that you will enjoy two summers in 2012 ;D I know you won't miss the winters here in Europe :D :D :D :D
-
Thanks cecilia but I'm not home quite yet :)
Still have to figure out which airlines allow you to take thermie on board minus the blades lol.. A big priority!!! Not going anywhere without thermie and my cookbooks lol
Ther will be no problem taking your Thermomix on board with the blades in your checked baggage so long as you meet the weight and size allowance.
Gert
-
Yes I know I'm very much looking forward to my very long summer :) :)
Definitely won't miss the European winter nope .. Def not.. I may from time to time crave some cooler weather but not freezing haha :p
-

Gert
Yes but does thermie meet those requirements?? I would think it is wider than a check on baggage and as for the weight ??
-
Just measure it but I am sure it would fit in any bag that will fit into the overhead locker. The problem may be the scales after juggling it and they may need re calibrating.
If you like in the morning I will pop mine into a bag which fits into the overhead locker and take a pic for you. The house is asleep at moment.
I can then give you the exact measurements of a suitable bag. You only really need carry the machine without the lid, varoma and other stuff. If you can put the jug safely into the checked luggage they you are ever better off .
I have several bags I can try out for you. All,of them fit in the overhead rack.
I will take some pics.
Gert
-
Kim, that's fantastic news! Where will you be relocating in Oz?
-
Thanks gert but don't go to any trouble.. I had intended to put it in the thermie travel bag but I imagine it's a bit big :(( I had thought of selling mine and rebutting one in oz but I would lose money plus they are about to increase the price of thermie here..so I'm sure will be the same all over..
Mj I'm relocating to the sunshine coast and until we get settled etc we will be staying in the guest area downstairs at my parents to give us time to also look for the right house for us and everything else involved with such a move.. We didn't want the added stress of finding a house before we got there etc. however it will depend on jobs etc as to where we will eventually end up
I worked for a long time in Sydney then Melbourne.. Family and friends in Sydney and Melbourne and on the sunshine coast..at this stage who knows but we plan to try and stay on the sunshine coast to be closer to my parents and so they can finally see the kids when they want which they have been deprived up to date..
-
No trouble at all. I will do it first thing in the morning. Then you will have one thing you do not have to worry about.
I am curious as well.
Gert
-
How exciting :)

Just did a quick quiet check and it fits fine in a bag which fits in just about every overhead locker . Details tomorrow. No worries at all.you will be fine.
Gert
-
I think take it in the carry bag. You will have 4x the carry on with the children don't forget.
-
Lol had a giggle at the quiet check.. Can just see you in stealth mode gert.. Excellent! Thank you muchly :-* :-*
-
Frozzie, that's wonderful news.
Australia has missed you 8)
-
Well the one bag I knew would be right is in DH room and I did not want to wake him. As you do. Lol!
Gert

True Meagan it was just not knowing if the thx bag will be allowed onboard as its quite large but worse case I know it can fit in a take on bag..
Ps I always steal the Kids luggage anyway lol

Great news (I'm usually more of a lurker than poster)...
Singapore airlines will definitely allow european to Australia travel with a Thermomix in the TMX black bag. I did it with two small children in economy.
Leave the blades in the suitcases. I also packed the varoma into the suitcases too. Put some spare undies (etc) into the TMX bowl, or some tampons... A comparatively useful method of slowing further enquiry. Not foolproof but can work.
Use the TMX bag if you have one - it protects the feet/scales. You can still take a small handbag and a laptop and raincoat (according to normal fligh rules) but always best to check the fine print.
Whilst parents are great ;-) there is a great public school in Killarney Heights in Sydney that has a French immersion program... And hence lots of francophones locally - good integration for your kids perhaps???
(written somewhat tongue in cheek and with all due appreciation to parents, of course!)
HTH
Regards and congrats and good luck!
G
-
We always fly singapore so that's good to know and most of the major cities have French immersion schools and there are a number of assoc as well that we have lOoked at... For sure it's better to be in a big city but when you don't see your family very often for a number of years and miss out on so many things your priorities aren't the same... In any case family or not we will be wherever we can get work for both dh and I etc..
-
So excited and happy for you Frozzie. Where are looking at living in Oz?

Oh Frozzie, what a year you have had - and will have - with the upheaval of selling and moving on top of everything else. Great to have you back in Oz and hope the move goes smoothly. Good luck with it all.
-
Wow Frozzie how exciting.
Is dh french? Must have missed something.
2 summers will be lovely, also being near family will be so much easier.
H :)
-
Dg to the sunshine coast initially..
Cuilidh despite all of the ups and downs so far it is what we want and is our choice to make such a move...making a decision to change our environment which has not been very good this year and seems ongoing. We are all looking forward to th big change... It just seems like perfect timing for us.. Its alot to deal with in one year with everything but at the end of it will be great for us.. You know when you get that feeling that its time to move on...make a change.. Thats where we have been at.. Just alot more involved in an intl move to a local one lol but its all coming together ..exciting times ahead

If the thought of the international move is overwhelming, think of this - when we moved to Australia we had our gear shipped in from Scotland, Hong Kong and New Zealand! Now THAT was confusing - we had to make a little laneway through our lounge to enable us to get to our bedroom and bathroom!
-
Frozzie, ?i am always slow on the uotake.
Hw exciting a totally new life for you all. I think aus is the best place in the world to live ;D
Do the kids & dh speak english?
H :)

When I moved to Australia I brought I suitcase and one handbag. I have been shopping ever since.

Love it, Gert!! The only way to go!! - Surprised though you even brought the suitcase!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Frozzie -- (will that now become ozzieozzie?? ;D) . . . here comes the rainbow at what seems to have been a rather stormy period!!
(http://dl8.glitter-graphics.net/pub/724/724638e59loli5yy.gif) (http://www.glitter-graphics.com)
Good luck with all the organisation and safe travelling - what a fantastic adventure and I'm sure your family is just over the moon at the prospect of having you so close!!
Saw this this morning - do you think your children would like to choose their own luggage tags?? :D
http://www.printableluggagetags.com/
-
Frozzie, how wonderful, you will become a Ozzie, and a Queenslander all in one...
Welcome home.
Robyn
-
WOW great news Frozzie
-
Frozzie this bag fits the TMX the trick is the expandable outside pouch.
The bag is,when opened,20 cm deep, width is 32 cm and height from wheels on ground is 52 cm. Weight 3.4 kilos
I put the TMX without the jug in sideways, opened the expandable bit and it is a lovely snug fit. Weight 8.6 kilos
(http://img.tapatalk.com/79de2670-4117-eadb.jpg)
So it can be done. You just want to pack light things in it so Otis no more that 10 kilos or whatever. This bag fits all overhead lockers on the aircraft you might use.
I tried to put it upright the other way but it was not happening. Packing it sideways gave the expandable bit a wee more flexibility and it is right enough not to move. Really snug.
So you at least know if all else fails, that will work.
Gert
-
Oh my cuilidh one country is bad enough well not so much the move to be honest but the tidying up all the loose ends but three thatvwould be a headache lol
Nope will always be frozzie no matter where i am and france will always have a home in my heart...
H yes agree oz is a pretty great place to live however places like france have things that oz will never have..and vice versa but thats life.. A perfect mix of the two wold be heaven but the last year i have been wanting to move back to oz.. The withdrawal symptoms are finely kicking in after so many years lol...It will be nice to Live in oz after living for some time in europe..
Gert if only i was capable lol... Luggage and i are besties .. I have however reduced my excessive luggage over the years..i can imagine you leaving a country with only a suitcase lol..
-
Gf thanks for the link... The kids actually had fab personalised luggage tags but the handling staff stole them when we travelled with emirates.. Was not impressed as they were new
-
Thanks so much for the pics gert and for going to the trouble for me xx
-
Exciting news frozzie. Good luck with all the planning.
-
How exciting for you all, and a very busy time ahead. Wishing you a very happy and smooth next few months.
-
Hi Frozzie,
As someone who has left her country of birth as a young adult, I understand where you're coming from. I think it is wonderful that you're returning home to share treasured times with your parents. Good luck to you and your family and happy settling back to Oz :)
-
😊 thanks for the nice thoughts lovelies
Desi i will be sad and miss so many things here but i am also so happy to be returning to oz... Its strange feeling that im sure you more than understand to have two homes and no matter what we will always be far from one... But so much to look forward to... Exciting times!!
-
Welcome back Frozzie. I hope you will be able to join in our retreat next year?
-
Im sure i will.. So much closer next year lol!
-
It certainly is a huge step in your life Frozzie. I hope the move happens smoothly and the rest of the family settle in happily to their new surroundings :)
-
Welcome home and all the best for the transition back to Oz. we love your contributions to the forum and you seem an amazing person so hopefully all will go smoothly and well for you.
-
Thanks dede im sure it will be fine... May be a slight culture shock for the kids but they are little and will adapt quickly
-
Welcome home and all the best for the transition back to Oz. we love your contributions to the forum and you seem an amazing person so hopefully all will go smoothly and well for you.
Thanks merlin thats very sweet of you.. I am finally looking forward to dh nd the kids experiencing life in oz and not just as a holiday for a month here and there...dh loves oz and he was the one who initiated the move.. Of course i didnt object lol!
-
Kim, I've jusat read all about your move back home for you, and to Australia for the rest of the family. Welcome to all of you and we will be an even better country for your presence. :-* :-*
I can imagine how thrilled your parents must be. Does your DH have family he will be leaving?
-
Hi thanks cookie thats incredibly sweet... Yes he has brother, sister and father plus all the extended family here but i know what he will be going through as ive done it myself.. Thankfully though his family have said to us that my family have been without us for so long that they understand.. Its always hard at times when one family is always so far away.. Especially on holidays or family occasions but thank goodness for skype and the like..
-
I think I understand the excitement and sadness you must be feeling. I miss Australia dreadfully, and will be excited/nervous to go back one day. But 20 years of living here and I still get a thrill with the beauty, culture and history of Europe. As you say - if only not so far apart. Good luck with the move. Sunshine Coast hard to beat as a place to land and settle.
-
I think you could spend a lifetime in europe and always having something new thats beautiful and amazing ... Never enough years to do and see what you want but i cant complain.. My life has been pretty adventurous so far and full of so many wonderful experiences as well as bad ones but at least i feel like im living it ... We will be ack regularly just not as residents... :(( however oz has so much to offer and its my roots, my family.. And a pretty darn great place to live!
-
Best of both worlds! You sound like an amazing person so I am sure this next chapter will be positive. A good friend of mine said to me after i had been through a rough patch - Put it in a box and mark it 'interesting'. I still laugh about that expression - and I don't open the box to look at the contents very often! I will be jealous of many things - but the main one will be you don't have to pay such horrendous prices to ship over thermie cook books!
-
True true lol.. Not to mention sourcing so many 'odd' ingredients that never seem to be available except online somewhere..
-
What excitement Kim - fantastic news for the land down under but more importantly your family. My visits to the forum of late have been rare so missed this latest wonder. I can imagine the feelings which presently abound in and around your home and your French family. It will be lovely to have you so close - remember Rockhampton is only up the highway from Sunny Coast! I trust that all preparations run perfectly for you my dear. :) :)
-
Thx robyn.. Yes i know and i will surely come o visit once we get settled lovely lady :))
Im rarely on of late but today i have been sorting papers so my ipad has been close lol... Yes lots of emotions which is to be expected.. I kep thinking of all the last times even like taking the kids to school here which is nothing like the system in oz plus plus plus lol im hopeless
-
I'm just up the road from Johnro so I look forward to that visit. Welcome home Kim and good luck with your organizing and travelling. A big win for Qld!!!
-
Lol yes qld will soon be one up!!
Will look forward to meeting you once we are settled :)
-
....and we have room at our place for you both!!!!!!! :-*
-
ozzie ozzie ozzie
oui, oui, oui, :D
(apologies to non-Aussies who might not see the significance of this post)
-
Very apt Bonsai ;D
-
Exciting times, Frozzie. . I can understand your mixed feelings, as a child we lived as expats in the US, UK and Canada which was wonderful, but always so good to come home. How terrific that your partner is also so excited about the move. All the best for your relocation and all the business ahead.
-
Merci 😊
-
Fantastic news kim, your family must be so excited and counting the days until you arrive.
When i lived OS i missed the aussie milk, what have u missed the most ?
-
Sunshine, family, aussie attitudes and quality meat lol
-
Oh and space... But will miss here th culture, vieux ville (old part of a city.. Each one has one), the bread, the cheeses readily available and reasonably priced, the cost and variety of wine here, the french way of cooking. Its just as much about being pleasing to the eye as it is the palate.. French patisserie..oh my lord!! Even after 12 years they still surprise me..
-
We will be gaining by having you in Aussie, Frozzie :)
Just a thought - and haven't read thru all this thread properally to see if this has already been mentioned - but will your TM's power plug fit into our power points???????
-
Nope but either ill use an adapter or dh will change the plug or ill see if i can order an australian one from vorwerk.. Same power voltage just not the same pug
And thankyou.. This forum is full of the sweetest peope xx
-
Oh Kim....this is really 8) news for you and your family!
Your kids can experience a completely different sort of Christmas....I bet they are excited, a real adventure :)
-
A nice hot sunny christmas for Frozzie and family.... :)
-
We are all excited for the adventure that awaits lol and yes a huge change for the kids as they have never experienced xmas in oz... Will be funny for them .. No snow and slush and big jackets and short days ...my parents are also very excited as it will be our first xmas all together :)))
-
...my parents are also very excited as it will be our first xmas all together :)))
What a wonderful Christmas it will be for all of you.
-
Welcome home Frozzie :-* :-* :-*
Aussies just love the french accent and all things french so you will be smothered with friends
-
so can we start calling you ozzie ;D
-
Just had a lovely visit out your way frozzie! We love France (especially down south where we are at the moment) and often say the best of both worlds would be 6 months here and 6 months back in OZ. sadly an unsustainable lifestyle - work keeps getting in the way. Hope you settle down quickly back in Oz. it will be such an adventure for you all.
