I was looking for something simple & wintery last night & so I made the batter for this - popped a bit of golden syrup in the bottom of some silicon muffin cups topped it with the batter & then steamed them in the varoma for 20 mins.  I served them with some vanilla custard.  Really good!!!

Perfect weather at the moment for this type of dessert. A little trip down memory lane if it tastes like golden syrup dumplings. You always seem to come up with the goods Chookie.

Hi I hope someone is able to give me a quick response. I am just about to start making the syrup pudding.   is it plain or SR flour that is used?  Sorry for the dumb questions!

When its written "flour" it usually means just plain flour Greyhoundmum ;)

thank you so much Amy nothing like a quick response when your up to your arms in.. Flour.  Much appreciated, can't wait to try the syrup pudds was always a childhood fav but my mum used to use suet not so healthy!

Hi achookwoman I don't know what I did wrong but the dough/batter was quite stiff and didn't rise much and it had  a very heavy texture  A bit like the suet ones mum used to make!! I think that I prefer the lighter batter type pudds rather than the denser ones.

G H M,  it is quite heavy but not nearly as solid as a suet Pud.  We used to call mum's suet Pud,  sinker.
Will make it again and report back.
