Title: Pomegranate Molasses
Post by: judydawn on January 12, 2012, 11:39:54 am
Not exactly a condiment or sauce but this seems to be the only place for this recipe.  It is a conversion from this (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/pomegranate-molasses/) recipe on allrecipes.com.

1 litre pomegranate juice
110 g white sugar
100g lemon juice

Place all ingredients in the TM bowl and cook for 60 mins/varoma temperature/speed 2/MC off.
You will be left with just over 300mls syrup.

I made this from Twitterpated's link (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/pomegranate-molasses/detail.aspx) in another thread and no problems girls - dead easy. $5.69 for just over 300 mls.

1 litre pomegranate juice
110g white sugar
100g lemon juice

60 minutes/varoma temperature/speed 2/MC off.

This will thicken into a syrupy consistency once it has cooled down.
Store in the fridge.

Posting from Maddy

Well even though I bought a small bottle of Pom. Molasses, I did make some as Judy's conversion.
It really is lovely.....and tasting them both, this home made version trumps  the bought one for sure.
I found the bought one too acidic, and the citric acid came through strongly.

I made a salad vinaigrette using:

2 Tbspn home made Pom. Molasses
2 Tbspn. Mild olive oil
1 Tbspn. White wine vinegar
Salt and pepper

BRILLIANT work girls, I spend so much time chasing it around as the few shops that stock it here run out quickly!

Somebody gave me a bottle of pomegranate molasses for Xmas and I haven't had a chance to use it yet. I was planning to use it  in salad dressings but what would other people suggest?

It' s used also in cakes, icings, marinades etc....it tastes tart but sweet also.....you could add it to anything really.
There's a nice looking cake recipe in the New York Times, I might have a go at it and see  ;)

I was reading "Feast' yesterday waiting for DD to have the CT scan on her knee and found the following in it.

Mix pomegranate molasses with vodka, soda and sugar syrup for a delicious summer cocktail.
Use it as a glaze  on poultry and pork.
Add to a plain sorbet base to create a pomegranate sorbet.

I bought some pomegranate juice today so will try all of the above.

Now you're talking Cookie  ;D  I haven't used my batch at all yet but the cocktail sounds nice.  What did you think of Feast. I bought the December issue No. 4 and wasn't impressed at all  :-))

Thanks for this Judy. I've just made it. It has a sort of sweet/sour taste. Was yours like that?

I actually love reading the articles in it. Sounds like an excuse for buying playboy doesn't it? I've only made a few things from it so far. I'm making some salads from the latest issue on Wedneday for guests.

Yes, mine is sweet/sour Cookie - haven't visited it since I made it and put it in the fridge.  Gee it's nice and syrupy now, must find something to do with it. How long do you think it will last or should I freeze cubes as I know I will never get through this amount.

What is Pomegranate molasses ? Is it like molasses/ treacle that you buy? Sorry for the dumb question but I have no idea.

It's used in a beetroot salad recipe in "In the Mix". I think it is used in Moroccan recipes too. I quite like the taste, it's sweet with a sour after taste. It's thickened, sweetened pomegranate juice. Not as thick as regular molasses or as sweet. I think it will be nice on chicken breasts too.

Interesting. I don't have the in the mix book. I'm holding off buying any more recipe books as I have 100s of recipes now to try lol.

I needed some more of this so as I was using the thermomix I decided to make it in the HMP. I cooked it for almost 2 hours and it hadn't reduced enough. One thing the HMP doesn't do is lose a lot due to evaporation. I wanted to use it for a dressing for a salad tonight. I've now finished with the thermomix so it is in there.  :-\

I used up the last pomegranate molasses I made last Christmas. It had sat in the fridge for a very long time. I’m making some more at the moment.

I wish I had known we had this recipe here.  I was looking for some pomegranate molasses just last week and after a lot of walking around managed to find some at the local Woolworths.  I haven't tried it yet so I will open the jar this weekend and see what I think of it.

I tried to buy some but couldn’t find any. I can’t say I looked too hard as I knew I could make this.
