JO when I was in Melbourne (Swanston St) there was this little mobile french crepe maker. They virtually had (apart from toppings) a thing that looked nothing more than a pizza stone thingy when they poured the crepe mixture over it, and this little wooden scraper that thinned out the crepe mixture. OMG we went past it a couple of times and there were queues.

Flour & water + couple of cheap toppings = a large queue

I've got a crepe maker like this one - the Tibo.

I also have one of the kind that you dip the "pan" into the batter, turn it over and place on the heat element. It does not work well and is messy to use.

The "trick" I have found most useful is making the batter the evening before and resting it in the fridge overnight. The crepes are more tender with the prolonged "hydration" of the flour - or at least it seems so to me.

Agree with Andi and Uni. Same applies to drop scones ( I think you call them pikelets) , flat pancakes, and Yorkshire puddings.

Have you ever made Yorkshire puddings Without salt and pepper ( batter pudding) and then had them for dessert with golden syrup or maple syrup over the top?

Agree on the resting. I've made crepes since I was a kid and they are much better after resting. I find the EDC recipe on of the best I've had.

Droverjess, my mum used to make scone dough and fry them and we had them with golden syrup, oh deeeeelicious  ;D

Wonder, the EDC is the exact same recipe I have been using ever since I was a kid, it was from my mums old CWA cookbook, I discovered it as I was going to convert it and was comparing it with the EDC one  :D

Glad to see that you've got over your fear of pressure cookers H!
Just think off all the money you'll be saving by buying the cheap cuts of beef to cook in your PC. LOL
Another good book that is jam packed with recipes (but no photos ) is Miss Vickie's big bookof pressure cooker recipes by Vickie's Smith. I don't actually have any of the PC books that you've just ordered, but they sound like they have some excellent recipes in them.

How's this for a premature purchase  :P
I have been hankering for a magimix processor for a while now...and I will be getting one, and spotted a new bundle  for it, so grabbed it because it was the last one at the sale price.

For French fries  and dicing....yes, you can now dice  in the processor 8)

That's very sensible Maddy. Wouldn't want to have to pay full price.

Maddy, I'm pleased that Magimix have brought out a dicer, it was the only thing lacking IMO, would be great when wanting nice looking dice for casseroles etc.  Let me know how you get on with it.

Thanks for the tips re resting the crepe batter, I did that with my waffle batter too.

I bought a fairly cheap Breville one. ($64 delivered).  It seems to be a re-badged one of these, so I read through the reviews and they seem good enough to me.  It's not like I'll be using it every day.  http://www.amazon.com/CucinaPro-1448-Griddle-Crepe-Maker/dp/B001EZCJL8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341877756&sr=8-1&keywords=crepe+maker+electric

Looks good Julie....I had no idea there was that many models out there  :o

That's very sensible Maddy. Wouldn't want to have to pay full price.

 :) I thought so too.
YHD has them on special, and come with a bonus 3 pack of creative disks

I'm unsure what size to get though  :-\ there's a bit of a jump in price between 2 models, and not much extra for the largest....but not sure if I want one that huge  ???
