Lately, I've been getting a hole at the top of my loaves all the way through. I flatten out and roll up my dough before putting it in the pan. I've done a bit of a search and it seems that air is being trapped when I roll. Has anyone else had this problem?
The loaves look so beautiful then, after the first slice there is this awful hole.

That's a pretty big hole MJ. Our bread experts probably have the answer for you.

What a shame because the texture looks great otherwise.

Yes, they're always great loaves otherwise. That's the frustrating thing! :-\

It made me laugh a lot MJ! ;D
Not good for toast with no where to put the butter!
My suggestion is when you tip out after first rise and gently knock back leave fifteen minutes under a large bowl for the dough to relax again before shaping. Then turn over gently a couple of times more before shaping.
I am sure chookie will have a good suggestion too.

I'll try that next time, DJ. The last loaf I made wasn't too bad, just a small hole near the top crust. I used the 'baton' technique for shaping that I found on YouTube.

MJ I had this happen recently with some rolls I made. Each roll had a hole in it, sort of under the surface.
We were using them for burgers so decided it was a good place to put the cheese!
