I am making plum jam tomorrow. I've never even attempted jam before but Thelma has given me the confidence to give it a go. Will let you know how I get on Nik

I did a sweet potato soup today, the sweet potatoes were in danger of not getting used and I threw some very limp savoy cabbage. It will do me a couple of lunches so I'm happy. Tomorrow I'm doing chicken and rice with vegetables. I'm also going to have a go at some jam, nutella and ... I forget what else ... Oooh tikka paste. I'm going to make some tikka paste for the fridge so I'm always a flick away from a decent curry for dh! Nik

Welcome from me too.
I'm in the UK so the only person I know who has a Thermy and I've only had mine since Tuesday.
I'm getting the hang of it tho' and have plenty of work planned for it next week!

Well, I've just done my supermarket order for the week (no time to actually SHOP!) and its come in under £70 for 4/5 of us (dh is only here part time!) We're eating a lot of meals out of the freezer this week (stuff that I've pre-made) but I've planned puddings for every night and we have cereal for breakfast only once next week. I've also bought to make some soups and I thought I'd have a go at jam making (although we're not big jam eaters but maybe that's just because I don't buy it ...?) We're massive Nutella eaters (the boys often have their medicines "hidden" in it) so I'm also having a bash at making this. Looking through the recipe book a lot of them turn cupboard ingredients into something that sounds great - chocolate and vanilla pots for example. Don't get me wrong, I"m not disappointed in Thelma and I really enjoy using her but I thought if there were ways I was missing to save money, I ought to catch on pretty fast I have a really tiny kitchen and this is the only way I'd get an extra pair of hands in there Nik

OK so one of the selling points of the Thermomixer is that it saves you money but, so far, I just don't get how. I'm guessing if you eat a lot of prepackaged foods then it would save money by making it a LOT easier to make foods from scratch but I already make a lot from scratch anyway. I buy the odd pizza and I don't make pasta .... I've looked at making butter but, here in the UK, its more expensive to make than buy!. Saving money wasn't my primary reason for buying it but if I'm missing an opportunity to save I'd love to see how Nik

I've only had mine for less than a week but already she's Thelma. I don't as a rule name machines but Thermomixer is SUCH a long word. On the gender front, only a woman could do so much, so well, so of course, she's a she! Nik (I'm going to be in trouble for this aren't I?? )

We've got friends coming round tonight for fireworks and stuff and so far Thelma's helped me with two salted caramel and chocolate tortes and some poppy seed rolls (proving as we speak)
DH is doing a chilli later and I think he's still scared of Thelma so she probably won't get used for that!
I may find something else to do with her yet!

Well it looked OK, texture was good but I have to say I wasn't impressed with the taste but given that it went from flour to cooked loaf in about 2 hours I suppose you've got to sacrifice something.
I only gave it one rise and in future I'd definitely do two.
My middle son took one look at it this morning and told me they're learning about an artist that didn't use any straight lines in his work only curves and wants to take the remaining loaf to school to illustrate it (he's 5!)

I'm still finding my feet but I did cheese sauce today to go with pasta for the children. Without Thelma I usually make a load of cheese sauce at a time as my kids love it and making it is such a faff, whisk, watch, add milk, whisk. It was definitely easy peasy in Thelma
In a fit of boredom this evening I made bread. Just grabbed the recipe from the book that came with Thelma. It looks good, has a nice texture, rose well but the taste is quite bland. I only did one rise and in future I'd definitely do two. Making bread quickly obviously has its advantages but tasty bread needs some "sitting" time.

I've just got some bread rising as we speak (I hope) Its the first time I've tried to make bread in Thelma but, really, I can't believe that bread with so little kneading time is going to be successful??
Anybody got any reassurance to offer.

Nik, mine would pay for pancakes any morning!
Its hilarious, the house is a tip but the kids go to school clean and tidy everyday, and I mutter about pancakes for breakfast at the school gate so everyone thinks I'm domestic goddess I am seriously useless at mundane exercises like cleaning ... Cooking, sewing, gardening and other creative pursuits are find but tidying toys away - that's got to be for other people! Nik

Another Thelma here too though it was partner to Louise the breadmaker before it bit the dust :lol
Louise?? No wonder she bit the dust - she needed a much more sensible name - Barbara? Nik

Phew, looks like you managed the withdrawal just in time. I made porridge and scrambled eggs in mine for breakfast this morning. The children thought it was great but neither of those dishes equals an easy cleaning! I think they'll have to be content with pancakes tomorrow Nik

Sadly the Indian cookbook didn't arrive with my order and, honestly, I'm too tired to cook a curry even with Thelma's help.
So far today tho' Thelma's cooked corguette soup, a meal of steamed rice, steamed veggies and steamed salmon, scrambled egg and is sitting there waiting for me to turn her on in the morning to cook the porridge. We love porridge for breakfast but I've never found a really good way of making it quickly and easily in the morning, even those sachet things aren't actually that convenient because one is never enough and two together doesn't cook properly .... Besides all of that my preference is for steel cut oats, not those mashed up things with lots of yuk.
Tomorrow I'm going straight in there and adapting a recipe from this month's BBC Good Food Magazine (a caramelly chocolate cake thing ... might have to post pics!)
