I'm looking for dishes I can double up and freeze.  This looks like it would be a great hit with the children would it freeze OK?

Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Re: Hollandaise sauce - Everyday cooking
« on: March 23, 2014, 09:17:20 pm »
A customer wanted to know if the TMX could make decent Hollandaise so I made it for her and now I'm hooked.  Thankfully we've gone "all Atkins" here so its very Atkins friendly.

Does anyone know if it can be reheated - will it "keep" in the fridge for a day or two?

I ran a Thermomix demonstration at home today so I cooked
sorbet
bread
cheese sauce
tomato and red pepper soup
vegetable gratin

I've also made granola (but that just used a spoon and no TMX)

Then I was so tired I had to ask for ideas for dinner on a facebook forum so I cooked chicken with rice and vegetables from the F&E cooking book ....

Only youngest child liked it but he's a food superstar (also tiny and skinny as a rake!)

We all finished off the sorbet from the demonstration for pud.  My dishwasher has barely paused for breath  :o

Vindaloo.  Today I'm cooking vindaloo from the Indian cook book.  I've cooked it before and its quite a hit, although i wouldn't dream of tasting it myself ...

I've also made almond milk and cashew nut butter.  A friend is having crohns flare up so I've made some almond milk for her.  Don't quite no what else to  do to help :(

Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Re: Recipe Review - Steamy Orange Soy Chicken
« on: February 27, 2014, 08:55:53 pm »
Cooked this tonight for the fusspots.  The boys also had some friends round so we fed 5 children in total - 3 of whom are diagnosed with high functioning autism - most loved it, a couple (mine) said it was too orangey.  In defense of the recipe I was too lazy to juice the orange and so just threw a peeled orange into the thermomix.

I had a taste of the recipe and thought it was really nice.  Very quick and ideal for a midweek meal.

Thanks for the welcome back everyone.  its good to be back.  Mojo is definitely coming back, have made several new meals this week - I'm working my way through the meat on the menu book.  I've had the book a while but not really "got into it" ...

Are you making sure that the measuring cup is on?  My rice takes longer in the Winter than in the Summer as our water temperature is REALLY cold in the Winter.

We always use Basmati rice and cook for between 20 and 23 minutes.

Hi all

I used to be quite active here a couple of years ago but then fell of the radar.  I trained as a consultant 15 months ago, peeked in and then fell off the radar again.

Life(tm) has been unreasonably hectic over the last year or so.  DS1 was diagnosed with autism around November 2012 and DS2 was diagnosed Feb 2013.  The last year has been spent getting DS1 a statement of SEN and into the appropriate school setting because he wasn't coping where he was.  He's now moved to a special school for his secondary education and is loving it.

So with all that out of the way its time to refind my cooking mojo and get my Thermomix business thriving.  I've been building up to posting for a couple of weeks trying lots of new things and tonight posted a quick recipe review.  Its so rare that I cook something new and not only do all the boys try it but they actually really liked it!

Looking forward to being an active member again.

I cooked this tonight for the family.  I have 3 boys, 2 have high functioning autism and boy2 is REALLY fussy and hates trying anything new.

Every. Single. Child. Loved. It!

That almost never happens.  Its quite a lot of prep so I think I'll bulk make a load of meatballs and I bet that sauce would be nice with lots of things.  I'd really like to take this away with us, make ahead the meatballs and the sauce separately and combine it when we want it

This is the first recipe I've done from this book.

I've been completely bowled over by the reception from my children.  All three absolutely loved it!  Boy1 and 2 have Aspergers and are really fussy eaters, sadly neither has the same tastes.  Boy3 is only 4 and has the appetite of a sparrow but they are loving this.

In terms of prep time and actual *work* this couldn't have been easier, although next time I make this I will marinate the meat for a while.  I served it with noodles as boy1 doesn't like rice  :o

Will definitely do this again.

That's cute...... And you will have time to look at it when he is finally asleep  ;)
Hope he feels better soon Nik

He IS very cute.  He's just telling me what life is going to be like when he's a grown up and we're married :)  I'm not entirely sure he's worked out what's happening to dh. :)

I just bought it but my ipad has been comandeered by DS3 who is a little poorly and watching movies on it.

I'm far to wimpy to demand it off him so that I can look at a recipe book!

Cakes / Re: Malt Loaf
« on: January 07, 2013, 12:07:12 pm »
Both my skinny kids like malt loaf - the middle child won't eat ANYTHING with fruit in it so I think I could be making this next week for lunch boxes.

The soreen malt loaf is divined so I'm hoping its not quite as good as that - I can eat a whole one!  :-))

I've just ordered some malt extract - the supermarket seems unsure whether it is a jam or a vitamin.  Its in the jam section but part of the "3 for 2 on selected vitamins" offer :D

Today I need to make some vege stock paste and also some cheese sauce to use up the rest of the Christmas ham (freeze it for ready made pasta sauce).  it would be a good idea to make some pastry for some pies for the ham pie filling I've already made.  And bread, of course.  I ordered some cookbooks from Thermomix HO - Meat on the Menu and a Taste of Asia so I'm hoping they'll arrive and give me some inspiration for tea  ;D

If I've got enough tomatoes I'm going to have a go at making ketchup - perhaps if my children can smother everything in ketchup they might have a more varied diet.
