Title: Cheers from Belgium!
Post by: Trillium on November 13, 2012, 09:02:29 am
Hello everybody,

I'm Raquel (or Trillium as my username says), a Portuguese living in Belgium for 7 years.
For my birthday I've received a Thermomix (from my parents in Portugal) and I'm in love with it. I've been taking a peek at this forum for a while and yesterday I made Isi's easy rolls which went pretty well (first attempt on bread ever!!) so I think I'll be taking many more recipes from here as well.

I'm still not very used to my thermomix (or Bimby as we call it in Portugal) but at least a few days a week I make something in it (it rests around 3 days a week) and I already have a couple of books here from Belgium as well as the basic Portuguese book.

So, I don't promise to add many recipes but I'll try to post something once in a while.

Cheers,
Raquel

Welcome trillium to the forum.  Lovely to meet you. I think you may be the second person do join living in Belgium.

Oh thanks for the welcome messages.

I was thinking that I could have already listed what I've done so far (besides Isi's easy rolls).

Soup - just take out some veggies out of the fridge and soup is ready in no time -- I really didn't like to make soup before and now I love it (and if I steam some mini meat balls in the Varoma by 2-year-old daughter will love it)

I made cookies on the first day I had it  :) it took me longer to make the little balls and put them in the oven than make the dough - amazing!
I've made those cookies twice because they are sooooooo easy

I also made some little custard-filled pastries we normally call "Pasteis de Nata" in Portugal - very yummy and yet again, more time on the molds then on the custard itself.

I've tried tomato-rice (didn't go very well because I just put too much rice so I'll have to try again)

Some steamed fish with a tomato sauce and potatoes and brocolli in the varoma (wonderful how we can make it all at once)

Stewed meat with spaghetti

Ahhh seafruit risotto -- lovely

some codfish traditional Portuguese dish called 'Bacalhau à braz" (it's with the typical dried fish and potatoes and eggs)

bolognese sauce (with vegetables)

The filling for a leek/champignon/chicken quiche

Oh boy... now that I think about it, I realize I've used more than I thought I had!!! Great!!

Today I'll make some meat with onion sauce and I'll find out more things to do this week... I'm so addicted I can barely focus on my job just thinking on what I could be doing (I'll get over it eventually.... )

I'm pretty sure I'll learn a lot with every one here and maybe find other people from around here so we can all share some experiences. I actually didn't have a demo yet (my stepmum has one and I was with her for a whole week) so maybe I'll join a demo soon.

Hello Raquel, how lovely of you to join us and share your Thermomix experiences.  It was Isi's rolls that gave me my first successful bread making experience 4 years ago.  We have our own special breadwoman here in Australia (achookwoman aka Chookie) who has got a lot of us making sourdough these days so, from a few bread makers, there are now so many of us making it on a regular basis.   Enjoy your time on the forum, we have a lot of fun here and please do try some of our recipes.

Welcome to the forum Raquel.  I was in Belgium earlier this year with most of the time spent in Bruge which my Husband and I really loved.  Such a pretty place.  Where are you from?  You sound like you are having a great time since you received your TM.  Keep up the great work.

Hi Trudy,

glad you liked Belgium (I guess you had good weather  ;) )
I live in a town called Schoten, pretty close to Antwerp (it's going to be around 80km from Brugge).

Oh btw, my TMX just started working - it's making soup now
Later today I'll make some turkey with onion tomato sauce.

Now I have to go back and work a bit.

cheers to all.
