I agree it's better to leave the warning here in case a newbie comes across the recipe somewhere else.

Meagan,   mine was just scratched,  but when I made it a second time ,  it scratched it more .   So that the 1/2 circle that happened with the 1st. mix ,  was increased with the second lot to a full circle.   It didn't seem to damage anything else.

Mine is scratched - probably from making this also.  It would be very interesting to know what problems Steve has encountered as a result of making this.

I think leaving the recipe and warning on is a very good idea!

I know this is old, but I made this recipe and it did do serious damage to my bowl.  I had a deep gouge where the blades sit and little pock marks or pin prick holes all over the bottom of my bowl.  I was just so mad with myself as I wont put it in the dishwasher so why on earth would I make dishwashing liquid in it :P :P :P :P >:(.  I think I just got over excited about all the possibilities of my TM.  Luckily it still seems to work ok although I have noticed lately that food does catch more than before (I think - not sure if I am being over sensitive or not).  I was lucky enough to have a replacement bowl sent to me, so I need to send the damaged one back.  Steve said once the warning was posted they would not be replacing any more. I think the problem is that the mix is just too acidic and it literally 'eats' the metal of the bowl.

Thanks earth mumma for your real experience with it.  I probably only made it twice and have a slight ring around the blades but certainly no damage like you speak of.  Lucky you being able to get it replaced and this is obviously why Steve posted his warning. Your explicit description is enough to scare the pants off anyone

We'll leave this recipe on, so as people can see that this recipe may damage the bowl. Thermomixer has kindly placed the warning as the first post, so all can see.

Thank You

And did you know ;D that you can double the amount of your vinegar for free!  I read it somewhere so tried it.  I only buy the generic brand 1 litre bottles of vinegar for the washing machine, tip half out into another bottle, fill both up with water, leave a few days and you will have pure vinegar again.  Don't know how this works but I do it - 2 litres for the price of 1.
I have seen this suggestion on the Cheap skates website. I have a background in chemistry and it is absolute bollocks. It may smell the same but it's actual concentration will be reduced by 50%.

SusanR do you happen to know if there is any difference in "cleaning vinegar" and the vinegar in the cooking aisle, I was also wondering the same thing about baking soda as they are selling it in hardware shops.

Loved your posting SusanR :D :D  It's fine for a rinse aid in the washing machine and dishwasher though which is what I use it for, not cooking.
