Any suggestions on what I can use in place of custard powder? I haven't had to buy any since owning my tmx.

I've made these a few times now. The first time, my jam sank to the bottom, the next time, I put the jam in on top, still sank so last time, I piped the jam in after the cooking process was all over - success!

Cookie-la-la is it very cold were u are

No, I am in Perth, WA, it's a 20 something degree day, warm inside without heating, clear blue sky.

Or are you singing????

Hhhhmmmm don't think so  :D

I used the dough, regardless, what have I got to lose but a few ingredients?  It was firm, not much elasticity but smooth, it's proofing again speak prior to going in the oven.

If your dough doesn't rise/double in size within the rest hour is it ruined?  My mixture of milk, yeast and sugar was beautifully frothy (the BEST froth I've ever had) but it's now proofing in an oiled bowl but hasn't risen much.  Will it still be okay?  I am making rhubarb and custard scrolls from a recipe in the latest MC magazine that I am converting -- fingers crossed, I'm not usually this adventurous!!

Recipe Requests / Re: Steamed rice in the varoma
« on: August 25, 2011, 10:43:47 am »
Thanks CP63.  I only have the EDC book, haven't had my varoma demo, don't really know anybody to invite to a demo as those that came to my first demo weren't interested in  *:, .

You're right about being able to afford to play around with rice.  I ended up cooking the rice, in  *: while chopping the chicken and vegies and then kept it warm in the thermoserver while the curry cooked.

Cuilidh, I love  *: rice and won't cook it any other way now, the kids love it and prefer it that way, too.

One day, perhaps, I will perfect the art of cooking rice in the Varoma and can post it.

Recipe Requests / Steamed rice in the varoma

Is it possible to steam rice in the varoma basket while you are cooking a main meal in the  *:?  I want to make a chicken curry and serve it with steamed rice but don't want to waste time making rice first and keeping it in the thermo server.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hi from Karratha
« on: July 24, 2011, 09:53:50 am »
Hi Red Kell, welcome.  How is Karratha?  I lived there for 20 years but moved to Perth 3 years ago!  Glad to know there is TMX demonstator up there, my niece is in Dampier and Would love a tmx

Ima give this one a try!  The one in the EDC took 2 days to firm up for me and while is was okay, I'm not in a hurry to make it again!

I made this last night but without the strawberries and I used the whole orange -- too lazy to zest  ;D.  I made it into a crumble by sprinkling Rara's crumble topping over the top -- was so delicious all by itself without added calories of ice cream, cream, custard, etc!

Healthy tip: I halved the sugar content in both recipes, used wholemeal flour and reduced the butter content in the crumble by 30gm.

Thanks O4aTT!  Congratulations to you, too!  Would you be able to briefly outline the way Dr Dukan diet works, ie what's involved?  I've not really read much into diets, my head doesn't like the whole 'restriction' thing idea, as soon as it's told you can't, it rebels.  lol  All I've been doing is concentrating on portion control - everything in moderation.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello from Perth, Australia :)
« on: June 20, 2011, 02:57:15 am »
Hey CEL from another new Perthie here.  I got my TM in March and every week I find I am using it more and more.  Whereabout are you?  I am north of the river.

My pantry is gradually shrinking -- I no longer have to stock icing sugar, castor sugar, bread crumbs, stock, tomato paste, etc, etc.
A couple of applicances that I have got rid of are my rice cooker and bread maker -- neither were very successful anyway, my blender, cake mixer and hand held haven't been used once since I've got my TM so I can probably do with another clean out and make more room for the bread tins, baking trays and pans I need to buy.  ;D

I have found soooooo many yummy recipes on here and the best bit is they've been tried and tested and tweaked to perfection by the time I find them  :)

Just found this recipe, thanks cottchick!  I am on a "healthier eating" plan and have lost 21kg (in 5 months) but still need to lose another 15+ kg to get down under 80kg!  My biggest downfall is orange & poppy seed muffins, I just love, love, love them and can't resist them when I see them at coffee shops so I'll try to use this recipe to make them myself!

I think re the sweetener, I'll try honey as it's low gi and I'd rather not go the artificial sweetener route if I can avoid it -- will try halving the honey in the first batch and see if they're sweet enough, with the yoghurt I use, I may not need any sugar at all so maybe I will try with none at all first and the adjust from there if needed.

My nan was a diabetic with cholesterol issues and had a recipe book that told her to substitute one cup of water per egg in recipes so might try not using as many eggs, too.
