...  I visited there nearly 4 years ago on a cork study tour for work.  We traved through Jerez in Spain, across to Algarve and then north through Portugal.  ...

Interesting - so cork, Wangaratta, ...  so, I Love Bimby,  can we get some wine on special ???   ;) ;)

I loved my trip to Jerez - fantastic sherries, and the other product from the cork trees - jamon.  The best jamon is from pigs that eat acorns from cork and certain oak trees.

Barbara, I have not been to Portugal, but my wife absolutely loved her holiday there - so we may visit some day soon.

Thanks for all your contributions.

Thermomixer - you are right!  :D  We can talk "Mates Rates" - much more economical!!  ;) ;) ;D
I'm hoping to be in Melbourne on the 28th of this month for Cyndi O'Meara's talk.  So let me know and we can oranise something LOL.  ;)

The Sherry's were fantastic!  I had no idea how diverse they can be and a trip wasn't complete without a tour through Tio Pepe!  I was in awe of the hospitality that both the Spanish and the Portugese showed us.

We'll have to wait till end of May  :( :(.  we're off to France and Italy for a month on that very day  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'll keep in touch and definitely do something when I return.   You can say which company - fly the flag - it's OK, we're amongst friends.

I love Tio Pepe and finos with gazpacho and jamon - marriage made in heaven.

I was lucky enough (though I had to pay for it  :D) to get a very personal tour through Bodega Romate and have every sherry available for tasting straight from the barrel.  You certainly have to spit - but I was amazed that absolutely every sherry was offered (and tasted  ;) )

I can't remember for the life of me what the name of these crustaceans (seafood) are: but they were a bit of a novelty to us when dining in Algarve... do you know these Barbara?

Apparently they are harvested off the rocks and what looks like a claw is actually it's mouth...

Hi Barbara

I have just joined the forum and am waiting for my new bimby to arrive! My parents live in the Algarve and it was my mum that convinced me to get a Bimby.
I look forward to reading any recipe you post as I am particularly interested in Portuguese food!! My mum said she will send me some Portuguese recipe books so if you could recommend any good ones to start off with that would be great!!

They live in Portimao - I've just told my my mum about the Portuguese version of this forum that I discovered while reading some older topics here, she's new to the whole internet thing so it'll be interesting to see if she copes with it all  !!!   :D

Are you a member of both forums?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the books to buy when you get a chance

beijinhos,
Luisa
