Witch Fingers (with photo)
« on: November 08, 2010, 09:59:18 am »

I made these horrifying Witch Fingers for Halloween. I can say that they were quite a big hit :)
I got the recipe from a Spanish blog
I know! Halloween time is over for 2010. I've been very busy recently for remodelling our kitchen. We haven't quite finished yet but I found some time to post a recipe

Ingredients
100g butter
50g sugar
1 pack vanillin sugar (5gr)
2 eggs
A pinch of salt
300g flour
Blanched almonds
Any red color jam (Strawberry jam that I bought wasn't as red as I liked. So, after I dipped fingers into jam I used few drops of Alchermes liqueur for a better color and resulted great!)

Preparation
    * Mix butter, sugar and vanillin sugar for 3 minutes at 37ºC on Speed 3
    * Add eggs and a pinch of salt. Mix for 5 seconds on Speed 3
    * Add flour and mix for 20 seconds on Speed 6. (If not well mixed mix for some more seconds)
    * Roll and wrap with plastic film. Put it in the fridge at least for 30 minutes (I put in the freezer for 30 minutes)
    * Get small pieces from the dough. Roll them into a finger shape. Place them in an oven tray which is covered with baking paper
    * For nails, place almonds, and press them into dough a little.
    * Make small cuts (not too deep) with a knife to make them look like wrinkles on the fingers
    * Bake them in preheated oven at 180ºC for 30-40 minutes
    * After baked, remove almonds gently, spread a little jam under the nails and then place the almonds back
    * Spread a little jam also at the bottom of the fingers and place them into the serving plate

Enjoy:)

were they for kids who came to the door, or did you have a party? what were their reactions when they saw them?

Rather frightening. Does anyone make cakes etc for the children that come to the door?

No, I just give them lollies to save eating them myself.  Not a lot in the house this year though and I had forgotten all about it until the kids knocked on the door.  If I made a batch of cakes or biscuits you could bet your bottom dollar no-one would show up  :D

Yes, I only give them lollies too. I was curious. One year we were out and had the front of the house egged and another year we said no as they didn't have adults with them and the next morning all our baby plants had been pulled up. Now I feel that a bag of cheap lollies is easier than cleaning up. I was quite amazed at the nationality of our visitors this year as I thought they would have nothing to do with Halloween. They all had adults with them though which I felt was really good.

We organized a supper with family and friends that night so we were out. There was only one small girl and she really liked them. I had also some "spiders". I posted it today: http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4806.0
I must say they all got great reactions also from the adults. We all have a child inside I guess:)
