Title: Other uses for Pizza Machines, especially those that have a deep dish.
Post by: achookwoman on October 05, 2012, 02:28:31 am
Some machines have a deep dish ,  which is generally used with the lid open,  like a fry pan.  But it is possible to cook a cake like batter in this dish.
I will post a recipe for this , later.

The Naan bread was very successful.  Cooked on stone,  not in dish.

Tonight I made a frittata in the deep dish, using all of the left over roast and steamed vegies from last nights dinner.
Followed the timings for cooking a frittata in the recipe booklet.
Very quick and easy  :)

I followed your idea of this one Katie and it was the best, fluffiest frittata I have ever made - used roast potatoes, pumpkin, carrot, cauli & broccoli, feta, tasty cheese, 6 eggs as per the recipe in the book.  Wasn't quite sure how I was going to get it out of the dish but my advice to everyone is to cut it into pieces whilst in the pan by using something plastic or silicon - makes 3-4 servings with salad or if you are piggies, less  ;D  I was very impressed and the deep dish is certainly an added bonus.

Well done Judy. We really enjoyed ours. I used a big plastic spatula and managed to get it out of the deep dish and onto a plate in one piece.

Yay we're not piggies - we got 4 serves out of ours! A piece each for tea and a piece each for lunch the next day.

I'm planning on making a zucchini slice tomorrow for men's lunches, so I'll try making it in the deep dish instead of heating up the oven.

Judy or Katie could I have the time and temperature for the frittata please? Our pizza machine was won by DD many years ago and came with 00 flour, pizza cooking instructions, cutter and all sorts of things but no recipe book.
Thanks.

Sure thing Cookie.  Here is the recipe for Vegetable frittata from the book.

sliced zucchini
1 sm onion cut into strips
1 clove garlic chopped
50g fetta cheese
30g bacon shaved
1 sm red capsicum, cut into thin strips
1 tblspn pesto Genovese
6 eggs
60g mozzarella cheese
15ml olive oil
S & P

Turn setting to 2.  In the meantime add the 6 eggs, feta, half the mozzarella, pesto S & P into a bowl.  Mix together.
Add oil, zucchini, onion & peppers into deep dish.  Allow to cook for a few minutes.
Add garlic and cook until the vegies start to soften.
Evenly spread out cooked vegies and pour egg mixture over them.
Close the lid and turn thermostat setting to 3.
Open lid after 4 mins and rotate the deep dish around to ensure an evenly cooked frittata.
Cook for another 5 mins or until cooked.
Once frittata has risen and is fluffy, serve onto a plate.
You can make any frittata combination you like.  Just follow the above method.

Katie & I both used leftover roasted vegies.

I love frittatas, dont have a frittata pan.

What did you all use to make frittatas in before the pizza maker ???

Just the frypan H.....cook whatever needs cooking first, then add the egg component, then you cook until firmed at edges, then place in the oven until cooked....handy if your frypan can go into the oven.
Or just make in a paper lined cake pan.

Reading this thread so I can justify to myself that I really need the pizza machine I just ordered (all Maddy's fault  :D)

Thanks so much Judy. The last frittata I made I used vanilla yoghurt instead of natural yoghurt. It was vile. Vanilla yoghurt and pumpkin just don't go together.

NOODLE SLICE inspired by Feb 13, super food ideas magazine.

2 cloves garlic
1 small zucchini (140g), roughly chopped
1 small carrot (80g), roughly chopped
3 slices of double smoked ham (65g), roughly chopped
4 eggs
180 pkt cooked soba noodles
50g oyster sauce
80g cheese
Pepper and fresh herbs
---

Preheat pizza oven on heat setting 1 with the deep dish inserted

Cut cake of noodles roughly, place in sieve, rinse under hot water to separate them, leave to drain

Add garlic to TMX, speed 9 til minced

Add carrot and zucchini - 5 sec, speed 4.5 (roughly grated)

Add remaining ingredients including noodles - 10 sec, reverse, speed 2

When pizza oven light has gone off, brush the deep dish with a little oil using heatproof brush and add the mix from TMX jug

Flatten the mix with spatula

Close lid, increase to heat 3 and cook for 9 minutes (check a couple of times)...

When cooked and golden, turn off oven, remove dish and place to cool on a rack before slicing

Thanks :) the oyster sauce gives this a great flavour. It's nice cold too!  Let me know how it turns out ... I'm making it again tomorrow, might swap some ingredients around, use mushrooms etc.

I made some 'toasted' muesli in my pizza oven! Just used oats, seeds, chopped nuts and shredded coconut and stirred through a bit of coconut oil and vanilla essence - then cooked on heat setting 1 for about 5 minutes, stirring and checking often as it browned up quite quickly. The only drawback was that I had to do in 2 batches for a fairly small quantity but this suits me as I'm the only one that eats it do I don't make bulk proportions anyway. Tastes nice and crunchy, very filling and will last me for ages. Great for making gourmet type muesli.
