I was looking in Woolies the other day and spotted some Pizza rolls, they looked so yummy and I knew my lot would love them, but at $2.50 each there was no way I would buy them. And anyway why would I buy them when I can make them.
So here's the recipe I used to make some yummy mouth watering pizza rolls. :)
Ingredients
250g Luke warm water
2 tsp dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
35g olive oil
420g bakers flour (bread flour)
Pinch of salt
Tomato paste (I use half tomato paste and half tomato relish)
Shredded mozzarella cheese (I just used tasty cheese)
Pizza toppings of choice (pepperoni, ham, pineapple, mushrooms, capsicum, sun dried tomatoes, etc etc)
Directions
Add sugar, water and yeast to TM bowl and whizz for 10 sec speed 4. Let sit for 5-10 minutes to froth.
Now add oil and give another quick whizz for couple seconds to mix.
Add flour and salt, mix for 5 seconds speed 5, put dial on closed lid position and knead dough for 2 minutes.
Leave dough to double in size before kneading for a further 1.5 minutes.
Tip dough onto floured board and knead some more, divide dough into 8 pieces and shape into balls and place onto baking trays. Flatten each ball of dough slightly.
Leave rolls to rise again until doubled.
Flatten each roll a little more, spread with tomato paste and add pizza toppings, then top with grated cheese.
Preheat oven to 220 degrees, cook rolls for 15 minutes or until cheese is browning.
Enjoy. :)

Saw this recipe just as I'd given up on the notion of making DH his lunch for tomorrow! I topped with homemade tomato sauce, ham, pineapple and cheese. Had a sneaky taste of a corner of one hot from the oven and they are beautiful. Thank you! A very simple recipe. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/04/7ynyreny.jpg)

LOL - In the supermarket with DH this morning, he pointed to the pizza rolls and said one of the guys he works with has one of them every day (do the math, that is $12.50/wk) :o :o I told him there was a recipe on here for them ... his reply??? "Well, why don't you make some for me then, cuz I sure ain't buying them at this price, and if you can make them they'll be nicer anyway!" :D :-*
So will be making this week (or this afternoon, depending on when my bowls are emptied!! ;) )
-
I made some more of these today. They got slightly over cooked though as I was too busy doing other things :). Oh well I'm sure the kids will still eat them. :)
-
Astarra, love it ;D
-
I made these on Thursday, and they have been very popluar in our house. I was lucky enough to get one to bring for lunch today, and I have to say the bread is still SO beautiful and soft. Will absolutely use this recipe again.
-
Made these for lunch today and they did not disappoint. DS has asked to take leftovers to school for lunch. Thank you we will be having these again.

-
Do you eattheselikea pizza or like maddyscheese and bacon rolls? Or both?
-
Both. Ate them like a pizza warm from the oven today and have cut and buttered for lunches tomorrow like Maddy's cheese and bacon rolls. Mine are a bit flat because I pressed the toppings down a little too much.
-
Thanks kimmy.. Good to know :)
-
Kim they look amazing :D I should have made these for DB while he was down from university :P
-

Has anyone else frozen these? I sent one of my leftover frozen ones to work with SD today for his lunch, he said it was very dry :-\
Thoughts or tips anyone? :)
-
I wrapped mine individually in gladwrap and froze them, DH has made no complaints so they must have been fine...? Think he gives his a few seconds in the m-wave before eating them tho, so that might make a difference. ???
-
I make these for the kids lunches all the time and haven't had any complaints. I also wrap them individually as I think it keeps them fresher and is also much quicker in the mornings.

That would have been the problem then , thanks astarra ;) After further investigation, I found out that SD had been travelling to another town on business when he stopped for lunch, so he wouldn't have been able to microwave them :P
Problem solved :D
-
Made 2 batches of this today. Chili prawns for DH and myself and turkey for DD. DD devoured it. Very very addictive! Thanks for the recipe dede
-
Floweryspring I'm glad you enjoyed them. I must make some more myself, with my hungry tribe they have no chance of going stale. Actually they are luck to cool down lol :)
-
Made these again for lunch, delicious as usual! Firm favourite here, thanks dede! ;D
-
Gee I feel slack, I haven't cooked these for a long time and the family love them. Better find some time to do some more cooking.
-
These were delicious and lovely and soft. We used tomato sauce, sweet chilli and sweet plum sauce as the base.
-
Here's my pic. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/19/u3ydy2e7.jpg)
-
Those look delicious ITAID 8)
-
The ones at the back were the only two left. I have. 4 year old, a 2 year old and a hubby. They totally demolished them. Will have to make again!
-
Wow they look awesome. I'm going to have to revisit these after such an inspiring picture.
-
Lovely looking pizza rolls INAID.
-
Thankyou! Hubby has requested them for lunch again tomorrow :)
-
Have these on their second rise now. If only I could stop Master 3 from eating the pepperoni I have sliced ready for topping.
-
I have been making these regularly lately - so popular. I usually add a tsp of mixed herbs to the dough, and recently tried using onion jam on them - delish! I love using this recipe when I only have a little ham or a couple of mushrooms left. It really makes a little go a long way, and everyone loves them.
My nephew was staying recently and said they have similar at the school tuck shop for $2 each (but not as nice as aunty jo's ones, of course).
I find the bread keeps well for a couple of days at least...if it gets a chance. But that helps with my fussy DH who usually doesn't like bread rolls beyond the first day (I make lots into "crackers" :-)))
-
By slicing thinly and drying out in the oven Jo? What great idea
-
yep, that's it - just on a tray on low heat until dry. The kids love "crispy crunchies" as they have named them. Great for homemade bagel crisps etc which cost a bomb in the shops.
DH loves filled rolls, so most often it's baguettes or similar which makes lovely even sized crackers.
I haven't had great success with homemade crackers (well, they work, but not a hit with the family), so bread crackers it is. ;D
-
Thanks Jo, must try that myself. Might even thaw some I have in the freezer and give it a try.
-
Another good idea. This forum is full of brilliant ideas. Thanks Jo.
-
Great tip. What oven temperature do you call low? Mine can go down to 35c to proove bread, but I don't think you mean that low!
-
Hehe, not quite that low. ;) Something like 120-130 deg is good. ;D
Can spray with oil and sprinkle with salt/seasoning if you like, but we are just as happy with plain generally. It does dry and go even crunchier when it cools so doesn't need to go too rock hard. I just turn the oven off when it seems firm and leave them in there to cool.
-
Just made these from the last 4 Bialys (savoury buns) from a double batch (ITM2 page 218) The dark pieces are the topping on the rolls (parmesan & onions) which give an extra flavour hit to the crisps. Very nice thanks Jo, this is a super idea.
I had just put them into a 200oC oven then came onto the forum only to see you had added a temperature of 120 - 130oC so I turned it down immediately. Probably cooked them for 20 minutes turning once.
-
What a wonderful idea Jo - I bought some bagel crisps from the supermarket a while back and they cost a fortune, and I am sure that the ones you make are nicer than the bought ones! Thanks for sharing the idea.
-
Wow, I'm amazed I have a new tip - I'm usually learning all I can from you all! ;)
-
What a great idea! Perfect for DD's snack!
We have these rolls once a fortnight. DD loves the mushroom ones. Actually made some tonight with leftover mince and chicken sausage!
-
Great way to use up all rolls jo :)
-
I just wanted to add one more comment about the bread "crackers" - they make really nice croutons just crumbled up a bit. ;D We love them added to a salad.
-
Made them yesterday Jo from a leftover stale roll (Uni's one hour recipe). They are great and the boys loved them. Thanks Jo. Brilliant tip.
-
Made these today using my quick dough mix
http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=14722.30
Delicious, thanks for the idea and recipe.
I mixed tomato purée with chutney for the topping with Chopped ham, and chopped yellow pepper. Grated cheddar on top.
A real hit with extended family. The idea will go on now and be made by others.
Thankyou so much dede.
-
Re-visited this old gem today for DH and GS and they weren't disappointed. I'd forgotten how great these turn out and perfect for young ones especially.
This photo is from the last time I made them. Today I used a tomato base (with a little BBQ sauce added for GS), shredded ham, pizza cheese, pineapple and prosciutto. :D
Please tap on photo to enlarge.
-
They look delicious JulieO. I often do things similar to these for lunch in the winter months.
-
Cookie, I can't believe it's only the second time I've made them, forgot all about them :o Made the other similar recipe on here; the cheese & bacon roll ones a few months back but kind of found them a bit dry. These are so much nicer. Great baking them all at once too :D
