TM31 Wanted
« on: August 24, 2015, 02:26:47 am »
I am looking for a TM31.  There are quite a few advertised on eBay and Gumtree, but I would rather get one from a trusted source - i.e. from my forum family.  Does anyone have one they would like to sell or know of one available that is in good order?

Did that work out OK?  Would you have any reservations buying through them again?

Yes I would.  It's just people listing TMX items and u deal direct with the seller.

I've bought books, a bowl set and a tm31.  No probs at all.

The Facebook page is Thermomaniacs, and the lady is very helpful.

I have just gone back onto Facebook and it is in fact, as you have all said, thermo manic - https://www.facebook.com/groups/thermomanicBSS/?hc_location=ufi

Having said that, I am getting a lot of help from the thermomaniacs page as well!

I think I may have found one, it belongs to a consultant, about 2.5 years old but not been used for 1.5 years and is $1,500.  The question now, is, what is the best way to check that it has no problems and is in good working order?  Or do I go on faith?

I'm not even going to answer that one. It is a very hard decision. They want almost full price for it so hopefully it is very good. Is it too far away to check?  Could a forum member check it for you?( if there is one living near the seller)

I'd be very wary buying unseen especially after a few stories of empty boxes being delivered, hopefully you can find one semi local but like cookie said maybe  getting someone to look at it would be the way to go

This particular one is only about 1/2 an hour away, so I will be able to see it first.  My concern is how to assess whether it is working correctly or not or whether it needs work / servicing.  I have got a few days to think about it, and maybe something else would come up.  $1,500 seems just slightly above average for a '31, however, I am pretty sure that it does have everything with it.

Please keep the feedback coming, I appreciate any and all comments.

The machine is quite young in the life of a TMX Marina so it shouldn't have any problems. I would ask to see the invoice to verify the age of the machine.

What colour is the seal, if it's green then read up on that. My DD's SIL bought one of those off a workmate but was told about the problem and has had no problems, she loves it.

I'd take something preweighed to check the scales.

I'd also do a heat test - add 1 litre of water to the bowl, set timer for 9 mins/100/speed 1 to 2.  Water should boil in less than 9 mins, usually closer to 7 mins.

Then there's the 40 sec  test - Set timer to 40 secs/ set temp to 70 degrees/speed 1. The temp should reach 70 degrees with time to spare (generally within 20-25 secs)

Is it being sold because a new model has been purchased?

Does it belong to a consultant?

Make sure all accessories are included, ie varoma & steaming basket.

Good luck with your decision.
