Hi all! My thermomix is about 5 weeks old. I am noticing a build up on the bottom of the bowl- I have cleaned and cleaned it, I have tried vinegar etc. I have a thermomix brush. I have also tried elbow grease and a soft cloth. How much build up is too much? Do you have any build up on the bottom part of your thermomix or is it spotless? I am working on the idea that it would be better to keep it spotless as this buildup will get harder to clean off but I am really struggling to clean it off. ANy other suggestions to remove this? Cheers Nicole

Did you do the one hour vinegar clean from the EDC? That usually loosens up any stuck on food at the bottom of the bowl. I find putting the bowl in the dishwasher easily gets rid of any stuck on food.
-
are you able to take a photo of it and post here?
-
GP, I've had my original bowl for 3.5 years and have never had a build-up on my bowl. I make sure it is spotless after each time I use it and if need be, clean it with Gumption and a wet cloth or a non-scratch scourer. Occasionally I do the vinegar clean but it is not needed very often. Whenever I make the Lemon Cleaning Concentrate (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=5891.0), it sparkles beautifully.
Here's a photo of my second bowl on the left which is only used occasionally and the original on the right which has been used constantly for all these years.

Omg JD my bowl and blades have burnt marks on them, Did the lemon concentrate and still the same
-
I just pull the bowl apart and use a bit of Gumption when it needs it.
-
Will Ajax do?
-
Paste or powder DG?
-
I also use a little gumption on a soft cloth on the bottom of my bowl.
I've never done the vinegar one hour clean, but occasionally I put a tray of ice-cubes into the bowl along with a lemon cut into quarters, slowly work my way up to speed 10 to blitz the ice and lemon, then I set it on varoma temperature on a fairly low speed for around 7 minutes. The blades and bowl sparkle after this :)
-
Not heard of that one before Katie, easy too.
-
I use the magic eraser inside my TM, I have never had any problem with burning. And both bowls are spotless inside still.
-
Paste JD.
Mandi I did buy a magic eraser but too scared to lose it after someone here's aid it is harmful.
Like your idea Katie.

soon as I finish cooking for instance mince I boil a kettle and put a healthy dose of dishwashing liquid in the tmx with the boiled water and let it sit. Very easy to cleean in sink an hour later
-
I give mine a bit of a scrub with a nylon scourer, after soaking for an hour in washing up liquid and hot water. (Don't forget to remove the blades first :D )
Always comes up a treat.
-
I'd try the Ajax paste DG. On second thoughts, after reading Chookie's posting - forget it and just buy some Gumption. ;D
-
Judy, i think the Ajax paste is rougher than Gumption. Be careful.
-
Thanks Chookie, I have amended my posting. It's been so long since I've bought Ajax paste I have forgotten the texture of it.
-
looking at those photo's too JD, one of my blades is very discoloured. Its not dirty, just nearing a blackish colour - but hey, its only about a 1 yo - they better not go blunt.
-
My original bowl's blades went dark very quickly CP but they are still chopping away quite OK.
-
My bowl goes in the dishwasher most nights nad that gets it pretty clean. Occasionally I scrub it with a scotch bright scourer.
-
Is it OK to put bowl in dishwasher?
-
many ppl do achookwoman, i don't
-
My bowls go through my dishwasher. Also I soak and rinse after use & if there are any burnt bits I use bi carb soda. Both bowls gleam :)
H :)
-
I only put mine in the dishwasher if I've had a highly fragrant mixture in there, but yesterday after making the enchiladas recipe I noticed that the spices had discoloured the base. I soaked it overnight and used Jif with a scourer this morning and it has removed it. :)
-
Thanks, I have not put it in the dishwasher, but quickly fill with water after each use. I use a lot of water but this is not a problem for us. In the summer I put the rinse water on the garden. About every 6 months, I clean over with Gumption. Never had a really bad stick on the bottom.
-
I never put my jug in the dishwasher either and it is now a bit dull, despite my attempts to make it shiny again. I've also got a very dark build-up on the 'leading edge' of the pressed 'ribs' which run up the jug from the bottom to the top (the guides that slot into the white motor housing) - hope you can follow that.
The Magic Eraser would probably clean it off but I would prefer not to use these things since I saw all the health warnings associated with them. Just bought some gumption so I'll see how that goes.
-
Marina, I get that build up along the 'rib' things. I use Gumption on a non scratch scourer. With a bit of elbow grease it comes off. I think it is the water in the country that causes this build up.
-
Thanks, Chookie, I hadn't thought of it as being a country water problem. I'll get on to it this weekend and see how the gumption works.

Thanks, wow what a lot of tips. Look I am concerned about mine- I havent had a "burn" or a disaster, but for isntance when I warm yogurt (eg milk for yogurt!!! Yeck, imagine warm yogurt), it sometimes sort of catches. I have a very weak wrist and no elbow grease so struggle to rub and rub with a cloth but I feel this is the best thing. I've done vinegar, I've done bicarb, but I haven't done the vinegarplus detergetn whcih I might try over night.... I shall report!Nicole

Just cleaned bowl with Jif and a non scratch scoured brush and it is gleaming again. Thanks for all your tips.

My bowl is not discolored, but if I have done something sticky (eg: mash or bread dough) I give it the quick full with water and hit turbo a couple of times thing, then tip out, add 500gm water and hard boil some eggs, which means I get a VERY easy to clean bowl and boiled eggs as well!!! Always works, bowl doesn't get any build up/ discoloration!!! Easy, but works for me!!! :D
-
Great idea- kill two birds with the one stone as one would say!
-
Love Astarra's idea.
I've had my TMX for almost four years and all I ever do is clean with bi-carb and a nylon scourer when necessary. Not that often, really as I pop hot water in straight away.
Mine's as clean as a whistle, but doing demo's helps as we make sorbet and the ice scrubs it clean!
-
Thanks ladies I used Gumption and it is now beautiful :)
-
I had some burnt evaporated milk on the bottom of my jug last night. I let it soak in bicarb and hot water overnight, but it was still stuck on this afternoon. I tried gumption and hot water, and it still didn't budge. I tipped it out, added some boiling water and more gumption and set it going for 3 minutes, speed 1 on the cook (varoma) setting. All the stubborn burnt bits just floated away and I was left with a clean bowl.

Glad you finally won ES. :)
