Chit Chat / Healthy lunches seminar
« on: February 15, 2011, 08:50:49 am »
For those of you in Perth, there is a seminar coming up on the 26th February on healthy lunches. Unfortunately I cannot go  :( but thought others may be interested. Julie Eady  (Additive Alert) will be one of the speakers. Looks interesting - if only I could convince DH not to swim to Rotto, and then I could go.  ;)

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Making butter
« on: December 20, 2010, 12:52:42 pm »
I've just discovered the joy of butter making. It's so easy and so yum!!! I have read before that someone said that it was best to buy cream close to code. So my question is.... Is it better to freeze the cream and then thaw as I need to make butter? Or is it better to make up as butter and then freeze? Does it make any difference either way it is done? I picked up a few 600ml cartons of cream which are use by tomorrow!

Thanks

Chit Chat / Does anyone else have this problem?
« on: December 17, 2010, 02:28:27 am »
When I open up the forum, I cannot see the 'Welcome Virgo9, you have .......etc' and then the line to click on unread topics or replies to topics I've posted in. I have to scroll through each section to see any new posts. It's happening on both the iPad and the laptop. Does anyone else have the same issue??

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Tikka paste advice needed
« on: November 29, 2010, 01:54:19 pm »
I'm such an idiot! I was just making the tikka paste recipe for the first time and as such, decided to halve the amounts. BUT I forgot when I was pouring the olive oil in and so now there is too much. I kept going with the recipe, omitting the water to get the liquid down. Have I completely ruined the paste? or do you think it will be okay to use?

Bread / How much dough for a square tin???
« on: November 23, 2010, 02:07:47 pm »
I've just bought a square bread tin with a cover to be able to make sandwiches for the kids lunches and was just wondering how much to fill the tin? The tin I bought measures approximately 20cm x 10cm x 10cm, so will make a fairly small loaf. But whatever  recipe I use I can make rolls with the excess.

Tips and Tricks / Cleaning the TMX
« on: November 23, 2010, 01:59:37 pm »
Just wanted to know if it is okay/normal to completely dis-assemble the TMX to clean each part? I normally self clean it or give it a going over with the brush etc during the day when I have more cooking to do, but like to take it apart for a final wash at night. Is this okay to do every night? Or will it eventually make the base of the bowl loose when it clicks on IYKWIM.
Thanks

Chit Chat / Which ice cream maker is the best?
« on: November 14, 2010, 02:39:18 pm »
Since seeing the beautiful chocolate ice cream that JulieO made, I've been thinking about putting an ice cream maker on my Xmas wish list. I was wondering what type people who have them would recommend. I don't know anything about them, but have looked a little bit on the net. Are the ones where the bowl needs to stay in the freezer any good? And are the cheaper ones just as good as the more expensive ones? And what size bowl is ideal? Any advice is gratefully received
Thanks

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Too much vanilla yoghurt
« on: November 04, 2010, 06:49:22 am »
I have a 1 kg tub of vanilla yoghurt which has not been opened (my bub has decided he won't eat it anymore!). I'm wondering if I can freeze it in ice cubes and then use it for something (ice cream or a dessert???). Being new to thermomixing, I'm not sure what to do with it. I know something can be done with it, just don't know what! Any ideas/recipes for this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tips and Tricks / Icing sugar and caster sugar
« on: October 24, 2010, 09:28:36 am »
Hi

I just wanted to ask what does everyone else normally do about icing sugar and caster sugar. Do you make it up as you go, for each recipe? Or do you make up a big batch of each and keep it in the pantry cupboard for when a recipe asks for it?

Thanks

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Bread
« on: October 24, 2010, 09:22:34 am »
Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right section for this but.....
I've made Isi's easy portuguese rolls a couple of times now (so yummy), and was wondering if I did the kneading and then the two rises at night, can I then shape the rolls and then put them in the fridge to bake the next morning. My kids love the fresh rolls, and I thought that way they can take a fresh roll to school for lunch. I wouldn't have time to do it all in the morning before school, but could manage baking the rolls. Would this work though?

Thanks

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Kids birthday party
« on: October 09, 2010, 03:08:32 am »
My daughter is having her 10th birthday party next weekend and it is a cooking party. I would like to take full advantage of having a TMX, so want to prepare/make as much as I can for the girls in it. So far I thought they could to make pizzas, ice cupcakes, roll out biscuits and make slushies of some description.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Introduce Yourself / A new experience
« on: October 08, 2010, 02:15:06 am »
Hi Everyone

I've had my thermomix for a week now and have been trying some recipes - with some successes and some failures. I haven't had much luck with mains, but I'm not sure if that's just my cooking, or the recipes from the EDC?? I'm not a fantastic cook but love the idea of more healthy eating for my family (DH, plus 3 young kiddies) and also the timesaving factor of the TMX. I will keep perservering but hope I haven't made a wrong decision buying it.

Thanks
