My old Kenwood  was somewhere between 30 and 40 years old before it died in the middle of Christmas Eve baking three years ago. I had to race out and get a new machine( pre TM days). I ended up with a Breville. It is great too..and now with the icecream bowl attachment and the TM I am set. Not as pretty as a Kitchen Aid though and can't cook like the Kenwood Thermal mixer. Not sure what to do with my Breville Food Processor though. Sell or keep.?😄

I guess I just love the pictures. You are right really I usually buy cookbooks but actually Google recipes instead😄 I guess I was looking for inspiration of what is possible.

HI Ladies
Really new to TMX and not sure what to do about recipe books. Buy now or wait for the Chips?
I thought i would buy the cooking for one or two, but note that a few of you have it and don't think much of it. I was also interested in In the Mix and the Chocolate one...are these worth it? I think the chips are so far away, I am not sure it is worth waiting. Your thoughts please?

My husband is really taking to using the TM5. He had the day off and I unexpectedly came home to a TMX dinner. He used both guided cooking and more impressively the Internet to make some dishes for a Mexican styled meal. I was happily surprised.. usually he is in charge of meat on the BBQ and making salad from a packet. I heard his son talking about my last demo and he said to his Dad as soon as I have a spare $2000 I am buying one too...clearly blokes find this style of cooking quite accessible.

Hey MacGuffin, I take your points on notice. Apparently though 11 years ago the same thing was said about Australia which is why the product was not here already. I myself was in the same frame of mind for many years "spend how much on what?" But someone does and then more follow including those late to the party like me when money purchased a few weeks ago.

But seriously though, the U.S.have the best sales people, if you get a network marketing team to consult, they will find a way to develop a culturally appropriate marketing plan....and the sheer population numbers mean that you don't have to sell to everyone just a really tiny  percentage to make it worthwhile.. Remember Australia only has 20 something million and New Zealand 4.5 million  and that has been a viable business here. As a distributor I reckon I would have to sell one or two and the word of mouth will do the rest. As for cost, our price was set when the Aussie dollar was US50c. The distributor here did not drop the price when the Aussie dollar value doubled. Now with the U.S. Dollar strengthening I don't think it will be $2000, but similar to European pricing. Product placement on a cooking competition or Martha won't hurt either,..in fact I have the plan, can I have the distributorship???

I think the bigger issues are around metric verus imperial measurement (although the with new TM5 and the screen. I bet that is sorted), power supply etc and any trade agreements to bring it in. But I am sure they will find a way.

I find it interesting that you don't think the direct selling will work in the States as that is the home of MLM. All the big companies do it even Coca Cola has a line of products that they market this way. So the US is very good with this type of marketing and you can even study it at Havard.

As for all the layers of commission, don't worry about that aspect of a sale, you very rarely purchase direct from a manufacturer. You brand new car, goes from the factory, to the wholesaling division, then comes into australia where there is a master buyer, before it gets to the dealer who takes a cut as does the salesman, so that is also a lot of middlemen.,I have a friend that works for Toshiba selling medical equipment and it is the same, for each sale she gets a cut, as does her manager, as does the state manager, the Australian manager, the Asia pacific manager etc. I tried to purchase some makeup products via Myer and their wholesaler did not stock certain Revlon items, so I had to go to DJs who uses a different agent. I would have thought Department stores would go direct to the cosmetic company, but no. So middlemen are everywhere and their  commissions are everywhere.

Now Vorwerk can I please get the US distributorship? I am happy to help, out:)
...jokes aside I can't wait for my US contemporaries to get hold of the TM5 en masse. You folks are so creative!!!

Love that you don't hide veggies, love that you still get out the pan to make scrambled egg. Have read a few recipes for "roasting" chicken in the varoma...and can't understand why you would do that?? (I am open to your thoughts if you think it produces a better result, but to me I will have the oven on to cook the veggies any way and I love the taste of roast or a webber in summertime)

How I explain the TM5 at work, is if you are not a confident cook then the chip is great and it will work you through the steps. On behalf of my consultant I am "selling it" to a few single blokes who like to eat. But then if you do like to cook then I explain it is a great set of extra hands in the kitchen.

As for the FB sites, I have joined up to a few with great enthusiasm, however the repetitive nature  of the delivery date discussion, pantry before and after shots and the talk of building a herb garden has got a bit monotonous. To put it into context though, I do work full time, have no littlies, don't need to stock the pantry up with new ingredients as I have always cooked from scratch (or I go out), and I have always grown fresh herbs even when I was renting. Apparently there is a list of pantry items you "have to" buy before your TM arrives, which did make me giggle.

I think though, I am just shy of 50, that for my generation Home Economics at school as looked down upon...and a lot of skills about how to cook from scratch, reinvent left overs to make a new meal have all gone out the door.( For instance, my mum always had a bowl of stock in the fridge made from a chicken carcas etc, however I notice it is now back in vogue, called bone broth and is lauded as some kind of superfood) So this means that some young parents have only ever known processed food and flavours. I guess they are looking for familiar containers and tastes.

Anyway, time to get off my soap box and go clean my study..wish I had done that before the TM arrived!

I was wondering about seal replacement too. They can not last forever. It is interesting all you TM31 owners are preferring your original machine. I have nothing to compare it too, but I love what I have. I will mention your thoughts on the comparison to my sister, she purchased in June and is a little bit miffed, well a lot really. Your thoughts may make her feel better.
