Apologies if this has already asked before.
Could someone please tell me how to cook quinoa in the thermomix? I would like to convert my favourite quinoa tabbouleh recipe and was wondering if I should cook the quinoa in the steaming basket using the same method as when cooking rice. I'm hoping I can rinse the quinoa in the steamer basket without losing too much of it through the holes.
TIA

I cook mine in the simmering basket, 300g Quinoa,900g water Varoma speed 4 for 20 minutes.
I did soak the Quinoa overnight in water then rinsed well before cooking.

Thank you very much for your help and speedy reply. I'm looking forward to making tabbouleh more frequently. With the recent rain and warmer weather my mint plant has really taken off the last couple of weeks.

I do the same as CC.

I have always cooked quinoa with rice and got really annoyed at it dropping through or sticking in the holes. Will have to try the overnight soak and see if that helps.

I have never soaked quinoa overnight before. Perhaps that makes it plumper and less likely to fall through the steamer basket. Just checked my packet of quinoa and it was best before Jun 2014. I suppose I had better buy a new packet next shopping day.

Gert wouldn't, she'd use it if it was a year out of date Chocolatte :D That's not far out so I'd use it.

I agree with Judy.

I'm with Gert, I just use my instincts on use by dates.

Thanks everyone, I will use it and see. It is too expensive an item to waste.

I would use it. They are only best before not use by dates. I used some tins from the pantry last week that had best before dates of 2010 ;D. Unless something is obviously off I use it regardless of the use/best before date.
