Chit Chat / TM heats by itself ?
« on: March 20, 2015, 02:50:57 am »
Anyone had the TM heat up by itself ?
Doesn't matter what settings I put in it as soon as I turn the speed dial its starts to heat will go all the way to Varoma.
I have rung TM Head office and its going back for repair ( 5 years old )
Oh course it happens as I had three slab cakes ready to be iced for a party tonight and no have no way to make icing...
looks like they will all be getting chocolate ganache!

Chit Chat / Can you buy a Lid seal ?
« on: December 17, 2014, 10:45:43 pm »
I have a TM31 that's almost 5 years old and I have two bowls, I need a new set of blades for one bowl but I really desperately need new lid seals, I have been watching the web site for about 6 weeks now and they are not listed, I rang about four weeks ago and was told that due to the seal problem there were none available and they would be on the site when they do get them. Nothing has turned up in the TM shop. One of my seals is so bad that I almost end up with more liquid on the bench than in the bowl, annoying and potentially dangerous. Anyone know whats happening about seals?

PS my are just worn out not the "faulty" ones

Chit Chat / Microwave/convection/Steam Ovens....Long
« on: November 20, 2014, 02:36:28 am »
Hi, I am in need of some advice from the experts!
My Panasonic Microwave convection oven has just died and I thought I would do some research on getting a new one. I am in the country so a quick visit to my local appliance store came up with " Oh they are not very popular anymore " needless to say they have none in stock so I have to research online.
Situation:Country style kitchen with a Rayburn wood oven in the winter ( heats out hot water too ) a gas upright ( old but works ) a TM for almost 5 years that gets used numerous times everyday inc Varoma use and the Microwave convection. The gas oven or cooktop almost never gets used the oven is a pig so the Mico/conv that came with me to this house 13 years and has always been used as the main oven. Of course I also have an airfryer, electric pressure cooker, webber Q BBQ etc etc. ( I read the shopping thread too much ) But I do use them all. I cook everything from scratch inc. lots and lots of baking, cooking cakes etc to feed the family.
OK to replace the dead Microwave convection do I buy another one the same ? Or do I go for the newer Microwave/convection/steam ovens or do I try and get a simple combo/convection/steam oven ( if they are available in a benchtop model.)
I am not sure how often I would use the steam cooking for veg or meat but I do think I would like to try adding steam to some of my baking ( ie crusty bread etc. ) I hardly use my microwave/convection for microwaving stuff mainly for oven, I always steam my veg in the Varoma rather than microwave them ....is that enough info to get opinions from the experts on here, has anyone had experience with baking and steam is it that beneficial or should I just replace exactly what I have .... I am almost convinced I could live without the microwave part if I had the steam function. But desperately need a reliable oven! PS the power supply to our house ( rural ) does not allow me to put in a full electric wall oven so its never really been an option to replace the gas ( and the gas is handy in power outages.
Thanks Deeau
PS the choice is way more lifestyle driven than price driven.

Chit Chat / Freezing meals for Seniors?
« on: July 20, 2013, 12:08:21 am »
My MIL is not well at the moment and she has always done all the cooking, I would like to precook and freeze some meals from them but their tastes are much plainer than my family's, obviously casseroles and stews work well, also a lasagne etc, can anyone else throw out ideas?
They are typically meat and three veg eaters, I was thinking about getting some silicone mini loaf pans and freezing both the meat part and the veg part in this so they could have smaller servings, mashed potato or potato bake also comes to mind that would work in the loaf pan what other veg could you do like this would blanched broccoli work that you could zap all in the microwave?

Chit Chat / Thermal Bowl or Thermal cooker
« on: March 18, 2012, 08:28:12 am »
I spend one night a week away from home from 5pm till 11 pm with one of my childs committments, that means for the last 12 weeks we are having takeaway one night a week, or we go out for dinner. I am so over it  ( and the cost of it ) and want to start taking our evening meal with me, I only get about 30 minutes at home before we leave. Salad is OK now but it will be winter soon.
I have two ideas, a thermal pot ( like a dream pot ) so I could prep the meal the night before quickly cook it when I get home and put it in the thermal pot to cook and eat  a few hours later OR I could try and get a locking lid thermoserver type bowl ( which I havn't been able to find ) and cook the meal the night before and reheat, pop in the thermoserver and then eat later. We have to travel for and hour each way to get there so the TM thermoserver won't work well.
Does anyone have any experience with coping with this, we eat mainly primal so I am not a rice or pasta person but soup or casserole and veg would be fine. I also will have to deal with taking utensils etc ( which I thought I could put in a themal pot after eating for clean up at home.
Any Ideas?
PS I also thought that I could maybe use a dream pot type cooker to rise dough in the colder months by putting hot water in the bottom pot and bread dough in the top saucepan? Anyone tried this.

Chit Chat / Help from the breadmakers ! Bread Rolls
« on: February 01, 2012, 04:17:01 am »
I have had my TM for almost 2 years and love it to death, I make lots of great bread but cannot seem to perfect bread rolls.
I have tried a few different recipes and my rolls seem to be too "coarse" they never seem to be soft fluffy rolls like you find at the bakery. I use Wallaby bakers flour and Lowans yeast ( both new ) I am not sure if I have the water too hot ( or too cold ) or if I leave them to proof  too long ( or not long enough) I just can't seem to get it right they have largeish air bubbles ( kind of ) and they tend to go a bit flat!
I would love to make great rolls for salad rolls for lunches, hamburegrs and for the kids to take to school with meatballs etc on them

Recipe Requests / Great Moring Tea Recipes
« on: November 08, 2011, 10:53:11 pm »
I "think" I am having people for morning tea this weekend and would like to do something "nice" I bake all the time and have my favorites of Choc Bimby Cake and M & M cookies etc ( though I can't buy mini M & M's anymore !  ??? ) Any suggestions on something a bit special, it would be even better if I could make it before hand.
To add another question, I don't drink coffee ( but can make TM hot chocolate ) whats the best way to make nice coffee in the TM or I have one of those coffee plungers ( one cup size ) and I have "freeze dried coffee" in an airtight glass jar  but it would be a couple of years old does it go off? Sounds like a dumb question but neither my hubby or I drink coffee ( both hate the taste ) so the whole idea of "great coffee' is foreign to me.

Chit Chat / Cooking for 6 or 7 in thermomix
« on: May 16, 2011, 01:24:00 am »
I have had my TM for 12 months, love it and use it many times every day.  We are a family of 4 ( two teenage boys with large appetites ) the quanities in the recipes on the forum are great for the 4 of us. Can anyone reccomend any recipes that can scale up well or suit a meal for 6 - 7 people, we are having an extra 2 staying for a few days next week and would love a few recipes that I can make in the TM that will amply feed us all. We are not big rice or pasta eaters and tend to use the varoma for steamed veg instead of high carb foods.  ( but will have rice etc if it makes my life easier for a few days  ;D )
Thanks
