Oh my, they are delicious!!!  I got myself a bit confused with the halving and only used a quarter of the melted butter and cinnamon in the scroll and they are still yummy yum yum.

The full recipe would make enough for an army!

I only used the tmx in the heating of the milk, but it was still a blessing because I probably would've boiled the milk if I did it on the stove.

Thanks snappy, hopefully I'll get time to make these today - I can't wait!

Hi Snappy,
Can I please ask: When you half PW's recipe is everything halved?
I have been craving these scrolls for years, but wasn't possible because we were gluten free, but since finding out we tolerate spelt I am keen to try the things I've missed out on.
Thanks!

Thankyou Judy Dawn, it is like the crown rolls, but the other links are really cool.  Thankyou.

Bread / cutting bread roll dough to get a nice effect
« on: November 04, 2011, 01:22:05 am »
Hi,
Can anyone tell me please how to get the nice peaked effect with bread rolls?  Do you just snip with scissors at four points around the rolls before you cook them, or do you need to pull the dough out a bit?
Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about.
Thanks

Thanks Judydawn, I made nico's coconut cake last night after reading your post, and it is really lovely.  I used raspberries for the syrup and just drizzled a bit over the top - I didn't do the cream.

Yes, faffa_70 it must be a mistake. it's hardly enough sugar to even be worth putting it in at all.  Maybe it was supposed to have a 1 put in front of it.

I won't be trying it again as it had 6 eggs, which is a lot to waste if it is yuck.  I will just stick with Nico's.

Hi,

I made the coconut cake from the gluten free cookbook yesterday and after reading the bit about it being good enough to catch a husband (not that I need another), I was excited it would be delicious.  I thought it was strange that it only had 25g of sugar, but went with it.

It tastes  very odd, not completely gross (although the kids say it is), but very strange - almost salty.

Anyone else tried it?

Chit Chat / Travelling with tm?
« on: April 26, 2011, 02:39:23 am »
We are considering travelling around Australia next year with a very basic set-up.  I would like to take the tm to use when we go into caravan parks, to grind up some more grains for flour and to make some nice meals while we have power.
I am concerned that all the bumping about may upset the tm.
Does anyone have any experience/comments?

I just realised how silly I am.  I have been buying whole sago (tapioca) from the supermarket to grind for arrowroot flour because I'd noticed arrowroot flour has preservative 220 - after reading this I checked the whole sago and it too has 220.  I didn't even check before because I thought why would it need a preservative if it's whole.

Silly me, I am usually very careful to check things.

Anyway, I'm sorry I haven;t helped, but  thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Has anyone heard of the Indian Ricegrass that andiesenji mentioned being available in Australia?

I do the same as Katesjoy.  I have read that some people put theirs into an empty deodorant roll, but I just can't see that working.

Recipe Requests / Re: Vegemite??

I will see if I can catch up with a friend and ask her for the "vegemite" she used to make.  The bulk was tahini, then she added brewer's yeast, apple cider vinegar and not sure what else.  It was very healthy and very tasty.  I don't think it was the same colour by memory.  I'm hoping to talk to her today anyway and will ask for recipe.

Thankyou all very much for your wisdom.

With the coleslaw I did add the vegies all higgeldy piggeldy, so next time will make sure to put carrot first.  I haven't followed the link for the mayo yet, but thanks for it.

I had a giggle over using the hairdryer, but can see how that would ensure the bowl is perfectly dry.

Thanks for the other tips as well.

Deb
