Title: 9 months interest free but beware the monthly fee
Post by: Purplehat on January 11, 2010, 05:26:42 am
I'm all upset. We got our TMX using the 9 months interest free option, only to discover with our first bill that there's a monthly account keeping fee of $4.95! Its obviously too late to let people know now, as the offer has expired.. but it is something I remember trying to find out about before we signed up. Our demonstrator was pretty clueless when it came to the finance part. She only told us about the $60 establishment fee.  >:(

We called Thermomix, but were brushed off with the "it's in your contract" stuff, and of course, we can't find the contract anywhere now. Argh. I'm sure I read through the thing.. but I can't remember the contents now of course. Going to call our consultant to get a copy of our "contract" or something. How frustrating!

It's just upsetting. I hope everyone else that got the MyBuy credit knew how much extra it'd be.  :(

PS: There isn't an early termination fee is there? Now we're all worried! We should have just paid the $ up front. argh.

I can only imagine how cross you must be Purplehat. I hate it when similar things happen to me and no-one seems able to help.

I guess it's not a huge deal or anything.. it just would have been nice to have known beforehand, is all..

I was hoping to pay it off earlier than the 9 month period (even before we knew of the account keeping fee stuff) but now I'm concerned that we'll cop another fee for doing that. :(

That is really dissappointing! I didnt even realise that there is a monthly charge. It must be a new thing as It was definaly not explained/discussed in the finance part of our training. We are told in our training that there is no fee for paying it out early but maybe it might be an idea to ring the finance company and clarrify that. If you cant find the monthly charge in the contract then it might be best to speak to mybuy and clarrify as well.
Its dissappointing that head office could not clarrify it better for you either.

I'm with you Sheree, I didn't know about that either and wonder how many of my customers are now going to be disappointed. As far as I know as well there is no early termination fee. I was also under the impression that if you didn't pay it off in the 9 months you are only charged interest on the remaining balance...that may also be something for people to check out now  ??? ??? ???

I would be cross too purplehat. One of my customer's asked the same question and I couldn't find it anywhere either - only the $60 fee but I am sure they specifically said there was no fee for paying off early. That extra $45 bumps up the extra cost to over $100!  :-\

Sad to hear that there were extra fees - really, really sad that consultants were not informed.

I knew about the fee but was told it was 3.95 per month. I was also told there was no fee to pay it off earlier than the 9 month mark.

Thanks everyone! I won't wait the full 9 months to pay it off anyway, but I just hope everyone who signed up for that deal knew about the monthly fee. I looked it up online and there is only one site that mentions the 3.95 per month fee - a consultant on a parenting forum mentions it! Mybuy have increased it to 4.95 per month.

I'm glad to hear there shouldn't be any early termination fees.. We're waiting on our contract. Our demonstrator didn't give us a copy! She's also decided not to be a consultant or demonstrator anymore. Ouch. Still, she is trying to find it and will hopefully give it to us soon.

On the most positive side, I LOVE my Thermomix!! ;D I've been so thrilled to have it here this summer, since our kitchen is like an oven. My health suffers in the heat, but Thermomix came to the rescue a thousand times over already. :-* I wouldn't give it up for the world now. They can charge me all the fees they want to! LOL - Only Joking!!  ;)

Purplehat, sorry to read about your consultant. Mine gave up too, just after I had bought my machine. I have learned heaps from this forum (still learning) and have now been adopted by another consultant, our very own Kathryn. (Faffa) Hopefully you can do the same with another consultant near you.

Try to find an active communicative consultant like faffa_70 - good to hear you like the TMX

We were considering the 9month plan but decided to buy outright... our consultant did tell us about the monthly fees.  It is a shame that yours didnt- as you say it isn't much per month, but it does all add up in the end.  But at least you are enjoying the machine!!

I discovered the monthly fee when reading through the contract with a customer. There is no extra fee for paying it out early

when i did my training , i was given a very informative fact sheet written by janine babauskis which outlines all fees involved, inc the monthly fee and a example of a repayment schedule over 12 months. it gives a breakdown of how much interest you would be charged and monthly fees, i find this brilliant to give to customers as everything is set out clearly for them ensuring no hidden surprises.
let me know if anyone would like a copy.
its awful wen you get hit with hidden extras i must agree.

Hi All,

I was considering the finance option and had completed the paperwork when the next day my consultant called me as some things were not complete. It was than I noticed the $75.00 application fee and $4.95 per month admin. I called my hubby and we decided to buy it outright as really the fees dont really make it worthwhile, better off putting it on my credit card and getting the frequent flyer points!

So understand your feelings and feel for you that you were not given the choice..

Yes - There is still the $70.00 set up cost and the $4.95 per month so for the 9 months you will need to add $114.55 plus delivery. But all in all this is a great offer for people that couldn't get it any other way.  $235 per month for 9 months will get the TM paid for with out any interest. ($58 p/wk) But if you don't get it paid in that time the interest is calculated on the balance ONLY at 19.95%.
So if anyone wants one before Christmas on the 0% interest free plan the latest that I would suggest getting paper work in by is the 1st of December. If it does not matter then send it in by the 18th so that it can be processed before the office closes.  ;)
