Suggestions and Complaints / Varoma see-through lid
« on: December 17, 2012, 04:42:16 am »
Hi, I've noticed on some sites photographs of the aroma with a see through lid. Is that a standard thing nowadays or is it an extra that you can buy? Is it better than the old black lid?

Welcome to the forum and you can look forward to a steep learning curve (that you will love). I'd recommend Tenina's books to get started.

I've been thinking about buying a food sealer for ages. Do you think they are worth it? Are there others other than the Sunbeam that people have used and could comment on?
Have a look at this post AM :)

Thanks Cornish Cream, I'll probably go out and get a Sunbeam tomorrow, I love spending money  ;D ;D

I've just made these but balked at putting in the full amount of water, so put in 1litre. They were really thick and at one point I thought that my TM might blow up! They're in the oven now and look OK. I made some of them as burgers but put the rest of the mixture in a pan with twelve spaces??? It's got a proper name but I can't remember it. Now I get to clean my machine. Not looking forward to it.

Thanks, Astarra, very kind.

Not very inventive - just my first and second names. I'd try to be much more inventive if I did it again.

Recipe Requests / Re: Recipe request: okonomiyaki
« on: December 12, 2012, 02:47:26 am »
I have just found another version of this recipe. It's not TM one, but shouldn't be too hard to translate. This is the link: http://www.closetcooking.com/2009/05/okonomiyaki-japanese-pancake.html.

 by Closet Cooking
(makes 1 4 serving pancake)

Ingredients:
1 cup flour (I used whole wheat flour)
3/4 cup dashi (or water)
1 egg
1/4 of a cabbage, about 2-3 cups packed (shredded)
1 carrot, about 1/2 cup (grated)
1 small zucchini, about 1 cup (grated)
1 green onion (chopped)
3 slices bacon
okonomiyaki sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)
mayonnaise
green onion (chopped)

Directions:
1. Mix the flour, dashi, egg, cabbage, carrot and zucchini in a large bowl.
2. Heat some oil in pan.
3. Pour in mixture and top with the bacon slices.
4. Cook on medium heat until golden brown on both sides, about 5-15 minutes per side.
5. Top with okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise and green onion and slice.

I realise bacon isn't vego, just leave it out. Apparently the bacon cooks when the pancake gets flipped.

Hi, I've finally got around to introducing myself and attempting to post a message. I've been a member for about 18 months and have had my Thermie for about six years, but not used it to its full potential. This site is fantastic and is really exciting me and getting me to use my machine a lot more. I've also discovered Tenina, who is a great inspirer! I cook vegetarian food and try not to cook too much sweet food as I really enjoy eating it! Thanks for being so encouraging to new members.
